  • In this paper, we developed a ground power supply system through the ground electrodes for a mobile robot moving in the constrained region. By external scan circuit through the electrodes, it is also possible to detect the absolute position of the robot without any additional sensors. Since the heavy weighted-battery for electric power supply and the expensive absolute position sensors are removable from the robot by using for proposed system, the resulting mobile robot system becomes cost-effective and dynamically fast.

  • This paper proposes about decentralized control approach based Leader-Follower formation control using LOS (Line of Sight) algorithm and unknown input observer. The position of robots which is a basic information in multi-robot or single robot motion control is determined by localization algorithm fusing UPS (Ultrasonic Position System) and kinematics model. For formation control, a decentralized control approach individually installing a local controller in leader and follower robot is adopted. Leader robot is controlled to track a specified trajectory by LOS algorithm, and the other robots follow the leader by local controller based on tracking platoon level function, self-sensing data and estimated information from unknown input observer. The performance of proposed method is proven through the formation experiment of two vehicle models.

  • In civil engineering, revolving structures (RS) are a unique structural form applied in innovative architecture design. Such structures are able to revolve around themselves or along a certain track. However, few studies are dedicated to safety design or health monitoring of RS. In this paper, a wireless dynamic sensing system is developed for RS, and field tests toward a large revolving auditorium are conducted accordingly. At first, a wheel-rail problem is proposed: The internal force redistributes in RS, which is due to wheel-rail irregularity. Then the development of the sensing system for RS is presented. It includes system architecture, network organization, vibrating wire sensor (VWS) nodes and online remote control. To keep the sensor network identifiable during revolving, the addresses of sensor nodes are reassigned dynamically when RS position changes. At last, the system is mounted on a huge outdoor revolving auditorium. Considering the influence of the proposed problem, the RS of the auditorium has been designed conservatively. Two field tests are conducted via the sensing system. In the first test, 2000 people are invited to act as the live load. During the revolving process, data is collected from RS in three different load cases. The other test is the online monitoring for the auditorium during the official performances. In the end, the field-testing result verifies the existence of the wheel-rail problem. The result also indicates the dynamic sensing system is applicable and durable even while RS is rotating.

  • Many researches had been gone about method to track moving object using wireless sensor network. We examined tradeoffs that exist between quantity of energy and correctness of tracking, and we confirmed that can get more energy sayings through improved motion prediction method. The consumed energy in the tracking is used by sensor node for sensing the object, and tracking correctness is a differ once of actual object position from calculated value by sensing. Some tracking methods and controlling parameters causes a variation of tracking correctness and energy consuming, we can get best energy effectiveness by motion prediction algorithm. Furthermore, we get better tracking quality and energy effectiveness through using a motion prediction algorithm that consider acceleration. By the simulation, we know that if we use an accurate motion prediction algorithm, node activation range that is used for target's predicted position should be restricted to sensing range of sensor is better.

  • The adhesive-tape of a liquid leak film sensor including the alarm system is developed. The sensing film is composed of three layers such as base film layer, conductive line layer, and protection film layer. The thickness of film is 300~500 um, the width is 3.55 cm, and the unit length is 200 m. On the conductive line layer, three conducting lines and one resistive line are formulated by the electronic printing method with a conducting ink of silver-nano size. When a liquid leaks for the electricity to be conducted between the conductive line and the resistive line, the position of leakage is monitored by measuring the voltage varied according to the change of resistance between two lines. The error range of sensing position of 200 m film sensor is ${\pm}1m$.

  • This paper describes the development of a nano-positioning system for nanoscale science and engineering. Conventional positioning systems, which can be expensive and complicated, require the use of laser interferometers or capacitive transducers to measure nanoscale displacements of the stage. In this study, a new self-displacement sensing (SDS) nano-stage was developed using mechanical magnification of its displacement signal. The SDS nano-stage measured the displacement of its movement using a position-sensitive photodiode (PSPD), a laser source, and a hinge-connected rotating mirror plate. A beam from a laser diode was focused onto the middle of the plate with the rotating mirror. The position variation of the reflected beam from the mirror rotation was then monitored by the PSPD. Finally, the PSPD measured the amplified displacement as opposed to the actual movement of the stage via an optical lever mechanism, providing the ability to more precisely control the nanoscale stage. The displacement amplification process was modeled by structural analysis. The simulation results of the amplification ratio showed that the distance variation between the PSPD and the mirror plate as well as the length L of the mirror plate could be used as the basic design parameters for a SDS nano-stage. The PSPD was originally designed for a total travel range of 30 to 60 mm, and the SDS nano-stage amplified that range by a factor of 15 to 25. Based on these results, a SDS nano-stage was fabricated using principle of displacement amplification.

  • This paper presents a high-performance control system for Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives with direct torque control (DTC). The system consist of stator flux observer, rotor position/speed estimator, torque estimator, two hysteresis band controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source inverter, and F240/C31DSP controller by using fully integrated control software. The stator flux observer is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adaptive control that inputs are current and voltage sensing of motor terminal with estimated rotor angle for wide speed range. The rotor position is estimated by the observed stator flux-linkage space vector. The estimated rotor speed can be determinated by differentiation of the rotor position used only in the current model part of the flux observer for a low speed operating area. To prove the suggested control algorithm, we have a simulation and testing at actual experimental system. The developed digitally high-performance position sensorless control system are shown a good motion control response characteristic results and high performance features using 1.0Kw RSM.

  • This paper presents a new interpolation algorithm for measuring high resolution position information which is prepared to a nino servo control motor using analog quadrature encoder. In the past, there are large capacity of memory(ROM or RAM) and two high price and resolution A/D(Analog-to-Digital Converter) for sensing two quadrature signals from a analog sinusoidal encoder interpolation. But high resolution of position from sinusoidal encoder can be obtained by using only small capacity of memory, one A/D converter and comparator. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is useful for measuring high resolution position.

  • Precise control of antenna position is very critical in ArcSAR system which uses an arc-rail as a platform for the antenna movement instead of linear rail. In order to minimize the antenna positional error, we improved the motion driving system and applied a newly developed motion control S/W which utilizes the real time antenna position information from magnetic linear scale and encoder. The experimental results showed that the rotational RMS error was reduced to $0.0062^{\circ}$ from $0.0432^{\circ}$. In terms of antenna positional RMS error for the arm length of 3m, it was reduced to 0.324mm from 2.262mm. It is expected that the ArcSAR system can be used to monitor the sub-millimetric displacement of terrain and structural targets.
