  • LMTT(Linear Motor based Transfer Technology) is a new type of transfer system used in the maritime container terminal fur the port automation, and largely consists of a controller, shuttle car, and rail. The shuttle car is divided into the frame part, the driving part, and wheels. In order to design this system, various researches on each part of it must be conducted. In this study, we dealt with the optimum design for the frame part of the shuttle car designed from previous studies on the strength of the frame with respect to the number of cross beams to minimize the weight of the shuttle car and to satisfy design criteria of cargo-handling systems in container terminal. For the optimization of the frame, thicknesses of each beam were adopted as design variables, the weight of the frame as objective function, and stress and deflection per unit length as constraint condition.

  • According as the quantity of goods transported by ship is increasing, a port environment is rapidly changing To meet this situation successfully, the development of the next generation port loading and unloading system(LMTT) is studied A Frame of shuttle car for LMTT(Linear Motor-based Transfer Technology) consists of three parts which are outer beam, inner beam and cross beam In this study, we carried out the finite element analysis for the effect of cross beam on the strength and stiffness of the frame according to the number of cross beam, loading position of container, the distance ratio of inner beam from center. The result is as follow ; When the load is applied on outer beam and inner beam concurrently and the number of cross beam is 5, that is the optimum condition in frame design.

  • The changes caused by the 4th industrial revolution are accelerating the convergence of technologies due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a result, rapid changes are expected in various fields of society and industry. The shipping and logistics industry is also in urgent need of smartization due to changes in environment and technology. However, in the case of Korea, the smartization of shipping and logistics technology is insufficient compared to that of advanced countries. For smartization for complex business processing with many related entities, smooth communication and visual confirmation using the latest technologies are becoming important. Such visualization and communication will become more important in smart shipping and logistics This study intends to present an integrated communication tool between self-driving ships and container terminals for the realization of smart shipping and logistics. In particular, a study was conducted on the development of a digital twin-based communication tool that satisfies the requirements of ship berthing and loading/unloading operations in which various actors participate and process complex tasks.

  • In this paper, as an anti-sway control strategy of container cranes, we investigate a variable structure control in which the moving load follows a given trajectory, whereas both the trolley and hoist controllers achieve their positioning problems. It is crucial, in an automated container terminal, that collisions should be avoided during the transference of containers from one place to another. It is also necessary, in the case of a quay crane, to select suitable loading and unloading trajectories of containers, so that possible collisions with surrounding obstacles are avoided. After a brief introduction of the mathematical model, a robust control scheme (i.e., a second-order sliding mode control that guarantees a fast and precise transference and a suppression of the resulted swing) is presented. Despite model uncertainties and unmodeled actuators dynamics, the swing suppression from the given trajectory is obtained by constraining the system motion on suitable sliding surfaces, which include both the desired path and the swing angle. The proposed controller has been tested with a laboratory-size pilot crane. Experimental results are provided.

  • The container has the inherent number which for distinguish among containers. When containers were handled, the container No. identify work must be precede. The work goes by fond in Most of the ports. It has not only inefficient time and cost but also error as worker's condition. The measure is operated that to use the camera on the spreader of quay crone to solve that problem. This measure, however, showed up the difference q recognition rates at weather, camera's condition, etc The ways could be considered both improvement of hardware and conversion of error number to solve the measure. Estimating the Expected Number of Re-handles for Empty Containers during Loading Operation (적하작업을 위한 공 컨테이너 기대 재취급 횟수 추정)

  • This paper assessed the impacts of the specification of the yard, handling equipment, and operation approaches on the expected number of re-handles during the loading operation for empty containers. When the various types of empty containers from multiple shipping liners are placed in separate spaces from each other, then the storage space cannot be fully utilized. So as to increase the utilization of the storage space, empty containers from multiple vessel liners are stored together incurring additional re-handles during the loading operation. Several formulas are derived for the estimation of the expected number of handles, including re-handles, for empty container retrieval from a bay. Transfer cranes and top handlers are utilized as handling equipment and various retrieval strategies are examined. Numerical analysis was conducted to assess the effects of various designs and operational parameters of the container stacking yard on the expected number of handles.

Simulation Model Development for Configuring a Optimal Port Gate System (최적 항만 게이트 시스템 구성을 위한 시뮬레이션 모델 개발)

  • In this study, a gate simulation model was developed to reduce the truck waiting time for trucking companies servicing container terminals. To verify the developed model, 4 weeks of truck gate-in/gate-out data was collected in December 2014 at the Port of Busan New Port. Also, the existing gate system was compared to the proposed gate system using the developed simulation model. The result showed that based on East gate-in, a maximum number of 50 waiting trucks with a maximum waiting time of 120 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-in, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 17 and the maximum waiting time was 34 minutes in the existing gate system. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-out, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 11 with a maximum waiting time of 5.5 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 9 with a maximum waiting time of 4.4 minutes. This developed model shows how many waiting trucks there are, depending on the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck. This system can be used to find optimal gate system operating standards by assuming and adjusting the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck in different situations.

Residual Settlement Behavior in Soft Ground Improved by PBD during Operating Facilities (PBD공법이 적용된 연약지반에서 운용 중인 시설물의 잔류침하거동)

  • The Plastic Board Drain is used to improve soft soils deposited in container terminal area at a port. This paper describes settlement behavior of soft ground in this area from PBD installation to the time of operating facilities. Previous researches focused on soil improvement effect of PBD, that is, the settlement occurred during ground improvement period. The residual settlement occurred during operating the facility is very important from the maintenance and management point of view. However, the study of this residual settlement has been rarely conducted. In this study, by analyzing the measured settlement data obtained from the container terminal area at the port, it was verified that the residual settlement induced during operating facilities occurred in a layer with PBD improvement. In addition, by comparison the settlement predicted by a numerical analysis with the settlement measured in the field, it was confirmed that the actual settlement is in the range of predicted settlement.
