Porous piezoelectric ceramics of PZT have been newly developed to apply for ultrasonic transducers. The porous PZT was prepared from a mixture of PZT and polyvinylalcohol (PVA) powders by BURPS(Burnout Plastic Sphere) technique. Porous PZT bodies were shown a homogeneous microstructure consisting of 30 - 80 (${\mu}m$) pore size in sintered PZT bodies. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties on various PVA wt.% have investigated.
The cosmetic industry associated L-ascorbic acid (LAA) or not with its salts and esters, to be employed for fighting the cutaneous aging process. In large part, in the segment of cosmetics, the salts and esters of the LAA alone are employed more frequently than the pure LAA, since the former are chemically more stable, but result in less effective products. The present work refers to a process for stabilizing LAA in an aqueous medium, which includes the step of placed the LAA in contact with Polyvinylalcohol (PVA) through weak force like Van der Waals interaction. The PVA provides stability for LAA aqueous solution, which is stable for 106 days with a LAA content decrease only of 10% w/v.
The photochromic dyes(spiroxazine) as a susceptible material were synthesized by condensing 1-nitroso-$\beta$-naphthol with piperidine. The melting point of the synthesized spiroxazine dye was 245$^{\circ}C$. Irradiation with ultraviolet light had effect on reversible coloration reaction. The photochromic dye microcapsules were produced by interfacial precipitation method using polyvinylalcohol and ethylcellulose. The average diameter of microcapsules was 5.4$\mu$m. The dyeability and fastness of dyeings of the microcapsule fibers were increased by pretreatment of the cationic agent.

By employing a photo-sensitive PVA as a photoresist, we first demonstrated simultaneous patterning and passivation of P3HT active layer. The passivation layers were obtained by annealing the organic layers after developing PVA and over-etching the P3HT layer. The fabricated OTFTs were electrically characterized. The OTFTs after the passivation exhibited the field-effect of ${\sim}5.9{\times}10^{-4}cm^2/V{\cdot}s$, on/off current ratio of ${\sim}10^3$. The value of OTFTs a little degradation with time in air but it appeared different unpassivated OTFT.
Cypermethrin-containing polyurea microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization using aromatic 2,4-toluene diisocyanate(TDI) and Ethylene diamine(EDA) as wall forming materials. The effects of the protective colloids of polyvinylalcohol(PVA) and gelatin were investigated through experimentation. The mean size of the polyurea microcapsules was smaller and the surface morphology of the PVA was much smoother than gelatin. In addition the release behavior was much more controlled and better sustained. As the concentration of protective colloid increased, the wall membrane of the polyurea microcapsules became more stable, the thermal stability of the wall membrane increased, the mean particle size became smaller, and the particle distribution was more uniform. The release behavior of the core material changed according to the concentration. As the gelatin concentration was increased, a more controlled and sustained release behavior was observed. However, in the case of PVA, the increase of PVA concentration lead to a more rapid release rate.

In recent years, polymer membranes, which are actively used in various industrial fields, have the advantage of being able to impart unique properties through the control of chemical structures and physical properties in the film-fabrication process, as well as through fabricating blend membranes mixed with various materials. In this study, the solubility parameter, which can be used as an index of miscibility with other materials, was calculated using molecular dynamics using a silkworm (Bombyx mori) silk polymer which has a wide potential to be used as an eco-friendly natural material. When the solubility parameter of polyvinylalcohol (PVA), which is also environmentally friendly and biocompatible, was calculated by molecular dynamics and compared with each other, it was confirmed that the two polymer materials had similar solubility parameter values. In conclusion, it was theoretically proved that the two polymers could blend well with each other, which was confirmed through experiments.

Hybrid insulator pentacene thin film transistors (TFTs) are fabricated with thermally grown oxide and cross-linked polyvinylalcohol (PVA) including surface treatment by dilute ploymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) layer on $n^+$ doped silicon wafer. Through the optimization of $SiO_2$ layer thickness in hybrid insulator structure, carrier mobility is increased to more than 35 times than that of the TFT which has only a gate insulator of $SiO_2$ at the same electric field. The carrier mobility of $1.80cm^2$/V-s, subthreshold swing of 1.81 V/decade, and $I_{on}/I_{off}$ current ratio> $1.10{\times}10^5$ are obtained less than -30 V bias condition. The result is one of the best reported performances of pentacene TFTs with hybrid insulator including cross-linked PVA layer as a gate insulator at relatively low voltage operation.

Electrospinning of Polyvinylalcohol (PVA), Gelatin (GE), and PVA/GE blend solutions in acetic acid were investigated to fabricate biodegradable for tissue engineering. The morphology of the electrospun nanofibers was investigated with a field emission scanning electron microscope. The fibers have average diameters in the range 50-150 nm. The miscibility of PVA/GE blend fibers was examined by differential scanning calorimetry. The PVA and GE were immiscible in the as-spun nanofibrous structure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) determined the crystallinity of the membrane and tensile strength for evaluation physical properties. An in vitro study of PVA/GE blend nanofibers was conducted. To assay the cytocompatibility and cell behavior on the PVA/GE blend nanofibrous scaffolds, cell attachment and spreading of fibroblasts seeded on the scaffolds were studied. Our results indicate that thePVA/GE blend nanofibrous matrix, particularly the one that contained 20% PVA and 80% GE could be a good candidate for tissue engineering scaffolds, because it has an excellent cell attachment and spreading for fibroblast cell.
PZT powders were prepared by the molten salt synthesis method. The porous PZT ceramics were made from a mixture of PZT and polyvinylalcohol(PVA) by BURPS(Bumout Plastic Sphere) technique. The 3-3 type composites were fabricated by impregnating an sintered porous PZT ceramics with various polymer matrices. The relative permittivity of 3-3 type composite specimens was shown 860-1,100 smaller than that of solid PZT ceramics(2,100), and the dissipation factors of composite specimens were about 0.02 to 0.03. The piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ of composite specimens(285-328*10$^{12}$ C/N) was comparable with that of single phase PZT specimens(364*10$^{-12}$ C/N). The thickness mode coupling factor k$_{t}$(O.5-0.6) of composite specimens was comparable with that of single phase PZT specimens(k$_{t}$-0.7), and the mechanical quality factor of composite specimens was smaller than 10, and thus these 3-3 type composite specimens would be believed as a good candidates for broad band transducer applications.ons.
