  • The improvement of spatial resolution is a fundamental issue in the two-photon, polymerization-based, laser writing. In this study, a voxel tuning method using a radical quencher was proposed to increase the resolution, and the quenching effect according to the amount of radical quencher was experimentally investigated. Employing the proposed method, the lateral resolution of the line patterns was improved almost to 100 nm. However, a shortcoming of the quenching effect was the low mechanical strength of polymerized structures due to their short chain lengths. Nano-indentation tests were conducted to evaluate quantitatively the relationship between mechanical strength and the mixture ratio of the radical quencher into the resins. The elastic modulus was dramatically reduced from an average value of 3.015 to 2.078 GPa when 5 wt% of radical quencher was mixed into the resin. Three-dimensional woodpile structures were fabricated to compare the strength between the resin containing radical quencher and the original resin.

  • Amino terminated polyetherimide(ATPEI) has been synthesized by bisphthalic anhydride arid m-phenylenediamine, after that characterized by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA). Fourier transform (FT-IR) spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography(GPC). ATPEI was blend to improve the toughness of bisphenol-A type epoxy resin which was cured by nadic methyl anhydride(NMA). The fracture toughness and the molphology of the toughened epoxy resin was evaluated. The toughness of ATPEI modified epoxy resin was higher than that of the PEI modified epoxy resin. In addtion, carbon fiber/ATPEI modified epoxy resin composites were fabricated and the mechanical properties of the resulted composites were investigated.

  • The maturity method in which the strength increase of cement concrete is expressed as a function of an intergral of the curing period and temperature of the concrete has often been applied to its strength prediction. For the purpose of the application of the maturity method to the compressive strength prediction for lightweight polymer mortars using an unsaturated polyester resin as a binder, the lightweight polymer mortars with various catalyst and accelerator contents, are prepared. tested for compressive strength, and the datum temperatures for the maturity equations are estimated. The maturity is calculated by using the maturity equations with the estimated datum temperature. The compressive strengths of the lighweight polymer mortars are predicted from the maturity-compressive strength relationships.

  • We prepared the amine epoxy adducts (AEA)/thin multiwalled carbon nanotubes (TWCNTs) composite particles using nonsolvent based methods including dry mechano-chemical bonding(MCB) process and supercritical fluid (SCF) process. The resulting TWCNTs/AEA composite particles have been used as curing agents for urethane modified bispheol A type epoxy resin. The thermal, thermomechanical properties of the epoxy resins cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles were measured by DMA and the dispersion of CNT was characterized by SEM. Because of high degree of CNT dispersion, thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy resin cured with TWCNTs/AEA composite particles prepared by SCF process are better than those cured with mechano-chemically prepared TWCNTs/AEA composite particles.

  • It has become topic continuously at MEMS or semiconductor process to form three-dimensional multilayer structure. In this paper, we devised the new polymer pattern method that has multilayer structure. This is method that uses different kind of polymeric material. Specially, polymers used in this study that we propose became all pattern by photolithography, prevented that process increases. Here, polymer that we use used polymer of epoxy order called "SU-8" and polymer of novolak resin called "AZ-1518". The result, "SU-8" was formed pattern to 3.5um thickness, and "AZ-1518" about pattern 3um thickness. Also, It was been 6um thickness at same pattern area.

  • Liquid crystalline compounds with amine terminal group and related linear and cross-linked liquid crystal polymers with epoxy resin structure were synthesized and characterized to develope matrix materials for polymer dispersed liquid display applications. Both linear and crosslinked side chain type liquid crystal polymers made with aromatic amine mesogens and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether exhibited nematic texture as shown by polarized optical microscope(POM) and their transition temperatures were determined both by DSC and POM. Liquid crystal polymer samples also showed even-odd effect as the spacer length of aromatic amine mesogens were varied, however, the effect was samller than that of low molecular weight mesogens. Changes of nematic-to-isotropic transition($T_{NI}$) of crosslinked type polymer liquid crystals were also disscussed in relation to the concentration change of crosslinking agent 1,10-diaminodecane.

  • In this study, the flame retardancy and tensile properties of epoxy acrylate resin containing flame retardants based on phosphorous, bromine or metal hydroxide are investigated. It was found that the enhancement in flame retardancy of epoxy acrylate with decabromodiphenyl oxide (DECA) addition was better than the addition of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl dichlorophosphate (TCEDP). It seems that the high loading of TCEDP may delay the formation of crosslinking network and consequently decreases the conversion of epoxy acrylate. It was found that magnesium hydroxide ($Mg(OH)_2$) does not improve the flame retardancy of epoxy acrylate after added up to 40 wt%. The synergic effects were clearly observed for epoxy acrylate containing DECA/TCEDP combined flame retardants.

  • This study was carried out to develop a procedural method to produce high strength polymer concrete using unsaturated polyt.ster resin and to examine its mechanical properties. Various mechanical properties were analyzed with respect to materials and additives. A method to produce high strength polymer concrete was successfully developed. Comperssive strength of $1,291~1,445 kg/cm^2$, splitting tensile strength of $106~145 kg/cm^2$ and flexural strength of $182~235 kg/cm^2$, at age of 7days wer-e achieved from the cylinderical ;md beam specimen prepared with the method. Modulus of elasticity. Poisson's rntio and the ultirnate corn pressive strain of cylinderical specimen were $2.8~3.8{\times}10^5\;kg/cm^2$. 0.21~0.32, and 0.005~0. 0065, respectively. Modulus of elasticity of the polymer concrete was smaller than that of hlgh strength cement concrete while the maximum compressive strain was very larger than that of high strength cement concrete.

  • The mainly used polymeric material for the denture is PMMA because of its cost and easiness to handle. So it was widely used material among dentists for past decades. But the acrylic-based denture materials have several common weak points such as shrinkage after curing and lack of strength. In order to solve these problems, we adapted one of hybrid system using acrylic polymer and vinyloligosilsesquioxane(POSS). POSS, which is a well known expandable monomer during polymerization process, may eventually suppress volumetric shrinkage. And the hybrid system makes it possible for the polymer to be stable in various severe conditions. Eight different kinds of samples were designed and synthesized. Each samples were characterized with dynamic mechanical analyser(DMA) to confirm their thermodynamic properties, fractured to analyze the cross-sectional morphology of the samples. And elongation, flexural and impact tests were also executed to evaluate the mechanical properties of the samples. From the results, hybrid composites had well defined crosslinked network structure compared to the widely used denture materials, and the mechanical strength improved without changing any surface condition as increment with POSS ratio in hybrid system. Fractured morphology showed homogeneous surfaces in spite of mutli component system, therefore we can conclude that the adoption of the POSS brought the reinforcement of the denture resin.

  • Silicone resin has no water-absorbing function because it is a strong hydrophobic polymer. However, addition of super absorbent polymer gives much better absorbency than that of conventional silicone resin. In this study, we developed novel silicone materials with water-absorbing function by choosing three types of amorphous acrylic super absorbent polymers with different particle sizes, determining the mixing ratio of the three polymers and applying the mixtures into two-component type silicone material for medical purpose. The change in the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tear strength, compressive strength and hardness was investigated by varying the particle size and content ratio of the added super absorbent polymers while preparing the silicone resins. The absorbency of the silicone resins was measured over time. Additionally, the particle shape of the super absorbent polymers as well as the distribution within the silicone resin was observed using an optical microscope.
