  • The film scanner that digitizes the conventional x-ray films is the necessary equipment in the transition period of going to the filmless hospital. We have developed the film scanner using laser. We have selected HeNe laser as light source. The polygonal mirror converts the point light source to line scanning light. In sensing part, the diffusing cylinder and 7 photo transistors converts the light signal which passing the film into the electric signal. With this scanner, we can scan successfully the conventional x-ray film by $1024\times1024$. Smaller the spot sire is, higher the resolution can be achieved.

  • In the coarse grain HAZ adjacent to the fusion line, most of the TiN particles in conventional Ti added steel are dissolved and austenite grain growth is easily occurred during welding process. To avoid this difficulty, thermal stability of TiN particle is improved by increasing the nitrogen content in steel. In this study, the effect of hlgh nitrogen TiN particle on preventing austenite grain growth in HAZ was investigated. Increased thermal stability of TiN particle is helpful for preventing the austenite grain growth by pinning effect. High nitrogen TiN particle in simulated HAZ were not dissolved even at high temperature such as 1400'E and prevented the austenite grain growth in simulated HAZ. Owing to small austenite grain size in HAZ the width of coarse grain HAZ in high nitrogen TiN steel was decreased to 1/10 of conventional TiN steel. Even high heat input welding, the microstructure of coarse grain HAZ consisted of fine polygonal ferrite and pearlite and toughness of coarse grain HAZ was significantly improved.

  • In this paper, we find a bound for all the zeros of a polynomial in terms of its coefficients similar to the bound given by Montel (1932) and Kuneyida (1916) as an improvement of Cauchy's classical theorem. In fact, we use a generalized version of Hölder's inequality for obtaining various interesting bounds for all the zeros of a polynomial as function of their coefficients.

  • This paper presents a new rooftop surface estimation method from 3D line segments. 3D rooftop surface estimation is based on the hierarchical grouping and initiated by 3D line merging for the disconnected 3D line segments. Merged 3D lines are applied to the detection of rooftop by surface estimating technique. To estimate surfaces we detect L-corner and T-corner points, and find fixed reliable junction points. The hypothesis of the possible rooftop surfaces are estimated as polygonal surfaces by these fixed junction points and building's rooftop models are generated by testing the possible surfaces in terms of assumptions of building surface properties. We carried out experiments by synthetic images on Avenches data set and the experimental results showed that we could reliably build 3D model with 3D surfaces, errors of which came up with 0.4 - 1.3 meter, 2.5 times more accurate than the elevation date from the conventional area-based stereo.

  • A navigation mesh (NavMesh) is a suitable tool for the representation of a three-dimensional game world. A NavMesh consists of convex polygons covering free space, so the path can be found reliably without detecting collision with obstacles. The main disadvantage of a NavMesh is the huge state space. When the $A^*$ algorithm is applied to polygonal meshes for detailed terrain representation, the pathfinding can be inefficient due to the many states to be searched. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the number of states searched by using visibility tests to achieve fast searching even on a detailed terrain with a large number of polygons. Our algorithm finds the visible vertices of the obstacles from the critical states and uses the heuristic function of $A^*$, defined as the distance to the goal through such visible vertices. The results show that the number of searched states can be substantially reduced compared to the $A^*$ search with a straight-line distance heuristic.

  • In mathematics, a definition must have authentic reasons to be defined so. On defining geometric figures, there must be adequencies in sequel and consistency in the concepts of figures, though the dimensions of them are different. So we can avoid complicated thoughts from the study of geometric property. From the texts of SMSG, UICSM and others, we can find easily that the same concepts are not kept up on defining some figures such as ray and segment on a line, angle and polygon on a plane, and polyhedral angle and polyhedron on a 3-dimensionl space. And the measure of angle is not well-defined on basis of measure theory. Moreover, the concepts for interior, exterior, and frontier of each figure used in these texts are different from those of general topology and algebraic topology. To avoid such absurdness, I myself made new terms and their definitions, such as 'gan' instead of angle, 'polygonal region' instead of polygon, and 'polyhedral solid' instead of polyhedron, where each new figure contains its interior. The scope of this work is hmited to the fundamental idea, and it merely has dealt with on the concepts of measure, dimension, and topological property. In this case, the measure of a figure is a set function of it, so the concepts of measure is coincided with that of measure theory, and we can deduce the topological property for it from abstract stage. It also presents appropriate concepts required in much clearer fashion than traditional method.

  • Let $\Omega$ be a closed and bounded polygonal domain in R$^2$, or a closed line segment in R$^1$ with boundary $\Gamma$, such that there exists an invertible mapping T : $\Omega$ \longrightarrow $\Omega$ with the following correspondence: x$\in$$\Omega$ ↔ x = T(x) $\in$$\Omega$, (1.1) and (1.2) t $\in$ U$\sub$p/($\Omega$) ↔ t = to T$\^$-1/ $\in$ U$\sub$p/($\Omega$), where $\Omega$ denotes the corresponding reference elements I = [-1,1] and I ${\times}$ I in R$^1$ and R$^2$ respectively, (1.3) U$\sub$p/($\Omega$) = {t : t is a polynomial of degree $\leq$ p in each variable on $\Omega$}, and (1.4) U$\sub$p/($\Omega$) = {t : t = to T $\in$ U$\sub$p/($\Omega$)}.(omitted)

  • Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and the measurement of clay or wood models fur the development of new products. To generate a surface from measured points by a laser scanner, typical steps include the scanning of a clay or wood model, the generation of compatible input curves, the generation of a surface and manufacturing data like G code or STL file. A laser scanner has a great potential to get geometrical data of a model for its frost measuring speed and higher precision. The data from a laser scanner are composed of many line stripes of points including small spikes and noise. A new approach using automated surface generating algorithm is introduced to deal with problems during reverse engineering process. And the input data and the generated surface are represented in IGES format, thus can be supplied to other CAD/CAM software without any data manipulation.

  • This paper is studied for the recognition of occluded objects by fuzzy inference. The images are transformed a group of linear line segments, which is formed local features extracted from curvature points, using polygonal approximation. The features extracted from images are representes to the fuzzified data which is mapped into fuzzy concepts to represent the fuzziness, and the recognition of a model from scenes is performed by fuzzy inference using the production rulse which is generated from the model image. It is considered that the recognition results according to the change of degree of fuzziness in the experiments, and the experimental results for 30 scenes contained 120 models is obtained 92.5% of recognition rate.
