  • Currently, most of the chlorine dioxide gas is processed at the beginning of storage or distribution. It has the disadvantage of not being able to continuously process gas since there is no system that can continuously process it during the distribution process. Therefore, in order to minimize changes in freshness and quality during the distribution process of agrifood, there is a need for a sustained-release chlorine dioxide gas treatment technology that can be continuously released. Therefore, in this study, the film to be used was examined so that the chlorine dioxide gas can be continuously released for a certain period of time, the concentration of the reactant and the viscosity at the time of the reaction were determined, and a chlorine dioxide gas gel pack was manufactured using this optimal condition. In addition, the gel pack was used to measure the amount of chlorine dioxide gas released and the sterilization effect of food poisoning bacteria.

  • The venom gland of Toad contains large quantities of cardiac glycosides, and toad venom poisoning is similar to digitalis toxicity and carries a high mortality. Sometimes after ingestion of aphrodisiac pills which contain dried toad, a patient develops gastrointestinal symptoms and bradycardia, psychoneurologic symptoms. We have experienced 2 cases of toad venom intoxication, who ingested asian toads. Patients were presented to our ED with nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The patients were peformed monitoring and conservative treatment and were fully recovered. Toad venom intoxication should be considered in patients with clinical manifestation of gastrointestinal irritation, cardiac arrhythmias, hyperkalemia, and detectable serum digoxin level without current medication of digoxin.

  • Antibiotics susceptibilities of Staphylococci were tested to get useful data for prevention food contamination and treatment of food poisoning. Tested were colony counts, isolation of Staphylococci, identification for the Staphylococcus aureus and resistant patterns to antimcrobial agents. The colonies and Staphylococci isolated from the atmosphere of 37 home kitchens in the morning (07:00-08:00) on Nov. 19, 1977 in Busan. The findings are as follows: 1. The average of colony counts was shown to be 9.6 ranging from 47 to 1 at mean temperature of 18$\circ$C (the highest 21$\circ$C, the lowest 15$\circ$C) 2. Out of total 37 kitchens, 18 Staphylococci were isolated from 15 kitchens with 40.5 per cent, and 4 Staphylococcus aureus were identified with 22.2 per cent from 18 Staphylococci. 3. Isolated Staphylococci were resistant to penicillin(100%), dihydrostreptomycin(93.3%), tetracycline (93.3%) and oleandomycin(66.6%), while the strains were sensitive to sulfonamide(88.6%) and colistin(83.3%). 4. Staphylococcus aureus identified were resistant to dihydrostreptomycin, penicillin and tetracycline, while the strains were sensitive to sulfonamide and colistin.

  • Gunshot wounds are unpredictable and require early, precise diagnosis and treatment. A penetrating gunshot wound can be fatal due to compromised airway, hypovolemic shock, lead poisoning and infection. This case report describes a 48-year-old male patient who had a suicidal gunshot wound on the right temporomandibular joint area using an air rifle. We successfully managed the patient by preoperative embolization, surgical removal of the foreign body and primary closure.

  • Sulfoxaflor is the first insecticide belonging to the sulfoximine class and is efficient against sap-feeding insects that are resistant to other insecticides. Sulfoxaflor acts as a neurotoxin to the central nervous system of insects compared with very low toxicity to mammalian. We report on a case of a 67-year-old male who ingested insecticide and received conservative treatment for mild metabolic acidosis and gastrointestinal symptoms.

  • Amitraz is a formamidine-derived insecticide and acaricide which is commonly used throughout the world. Amitraz intoxication is mediated through ${\alpha}_2$ adrenergic receptor agonist effects, similar to those of the ${\alpha}_2$ agonist clonidine. We report a case of a patient who experienced coma and hypotension after amitraz ingestion. A 37-year-old woman visited the ER with symptoms of vomiting and altered mental state. She had ingested a mouthful of liquid amitraz concentrate (12.5%), which rapidly led to vomiting, hypotension, bradycardia, hyperglycemia, and mental stupor. Supportive treatment, including mechanical ventilation and administration of inotropics, resulted in full recovery within four days.

  • A 21-year-old woman ingested 1,250 mg of diphenhydramine in a single overdose. Diphenhydramine, a rare ingredient in over-the-counter medication, is used to treat insomnia in Korea. Toxicity is usually limited to anticholinergic symptoms. The standard approach to therapy for the treatment of diphenhydramine overdose is supportive care, including physostigmines and sodium bicarbonates. Here, we review the literature and for the first time report a case of acute diphenhydramine overdosage in Korea, complicated with seizures.

  • A powder of destructive adsorbent was prepared by impregnating Mn and Cu on the surface of amorphous aluminosilicate. It catalytically dimerized tert-butyl mercaptan into di-tert-butyl disulfide on its surface. Turnover of the dimerization was strongly dependent on the surface morphology of the adsorbent, which could be altered by modification of aluminosilicate support. During the process of impregnation, which involved heat treatment at 500 ${^{\circ}C}$, the shape of the pore was preserved, though large fraction of micropores were eliminated. The reactive sites on the surface were poisoned as dimerization products strongly adhered on them. Therefore, high surface area was not always desirable. When the surface was heavily populated with “inkbottled” pores with a narrow entrance in uniform size, heavy poisoning of the reactive sites turned the destructive adsorbents almost useless.

  • When the food poisoning bacteria Salmonella enteritidis and S. typhimurium were treated with radiation (cobalt-60 r-rays) and heat (10 minutes at $45^{\circ}C\;or\;50^{\circ}C$), their sterilizing effect was revealed differently depending on the order of treatments. Post-irradiation heating showed a synergistic effect whereas pre-irradiation heating revealed the opposite effect and the effects differed slightly with heating temperature.

  • A 47-year-old woman ingested about 12 mg of colchicine with suicidal intent. Colchicine, a highly poisonous alkaloid, is a commonly used treatment for gout, Bechet's disease, and familial Mediterranean fever. Despite the knowledge of its side effects, the risk of a significant overdose is under-appreciated. She suffered from acute multisystem toxicity, including gastrointestinal disorders, bone marrow suppression, alopecia, and probable pancreatitis, but she ultimately recovered with supportive therapy. We report a case of acute colchicine toxicity from a single overdose with a review of the literature.
