In this study, an investigation was conducted into the influencing factors for the learning motivation of players in the game, including experience, vicarious experience, the need of achievement, the need of power, and mastery motivation. Then, a discussion was conducted regarding the role played by learning motivation, learning performance, and satisfaction with continuous use. A survey was conducted with 519 players, most at the intermediate gaming level in . As demonstrated by the results of this study, experience, vicarious experience, the need of power, and the mastery of motivation have significant positive association with the players' motivation of learning the game. Learning performance and satisfaction have a positive impact on the continuity of use. Additionally, the correlation between the need of achievement and learning motivation is insignificant. Overall, the research results confirm the significance of the social-cognitive theory relative to the learning motivation. Players began to transform, satisfied with their achievements in the game, as well as gradually evolving toward self-improvement to achieve satisfaction. It offers a new explanation and crucial reference for mastering the gaming trend among the contemporary players.
With the prosperity of Internet, the game industry is occuping an important position in the national economic system. The study on the game industry which has been drawing eyes from researchers is of great significance. Many scholars have done researches on game motivations, but the elements of intrinsic motivation are still in the exploratory stage. This study determines the dimensions of the influencing factors of players 'intrinsic game motivation and their game experience by adopting the method of literature research. A theoretical model is established to explore the influence of intrinsic game motivation on players' game experience. Questionnaires from players of "The Honor of Kings" are collected through the Internet. SPSS 21.0 is utilized to test the model and hypotheses, and finally the results of the data are analysed. It verifies that intrinsic motivation mainly consists of four components: achievement, social interaction, immersion and escapism. By exploring the influence of the four elements on players' experience, it is concluded that the players' immersion and social interaction have a greater positive impact on their game experience. It is indicated that a better game design highlights the storyline of the game and the interaction system is of importance to enable players to gain a better game experience.
This study examines whether online game motivation, with social and expedition needs, are associated with the degree of loneliness among young adolescents. Using data from a survey of 2014 elementary-, middle- and high-school students in South Korea, a three-wave online survey was conducted to collect data from online players. Two latent growth cause-and-effect models were developed to test whether online game motivation influences degree of loneliness. Results showed that both social and expedition needs are positively associated with loneliness. This study contributes to the knowledge of the underlying needs for a player with loneliness and also highlights the social and expedition needs as potential therapeutic factors.
MMORPG users can create their own identity that they will use to act through in the virtual world utilizing the avatar creation system. The MMORPG customization process, divided into the creation and transformation stages, provides a sandbox for the identity play by users. In this study, analysis of the users' customization attitudes using the Q methodology especially in the transformation stage was conducted. The users' attitudes were found to be categorized into 4 types: 1) fulfilling attitude, 2) customization immersed attitude, 3) customization challenging attitude, and 4) community oriented attitude. Of particular interest are the immersed customization type, where the attitude is driven by the internal motivation of "self-satisfaction" unlike the fulfillment and community oriented attitudes which are driven by instrumental motivation of the avatar, and the continuous desire towards transformation revealed by the challenging customization attitude. This study provides valuable insight in the design perspective for developers in instilling critical immersion elements to the users while preparing to update the level.
Following rapid development of software and hardware technologies and increasing enhancement in arithmetic capability, there are more and more content that can be accommodated and processed in video games, which is also increasingly complex and fine. Cutscene as a main narrative method have been developed, which have become necessary to express some key plots and important scenarios in games. Good cutscene can strengthen engagement of players with virtual world in games and make players share affection and sorrow with roles in games; while badly-designed cut-scene or overused cut-scene will impair immersion of players and affect players' gaming experience; for this reason, developers should not continue cut-scene design just from opinions of designers nor make players passive receivers, instead, they should reduce as much as possible interruption by cut-scene to players' immersion and grant players with better immersion. After all, only designs depending on demands and preferences of players by having some knowledge of impacts of cut-scene on players' immersion can be accepted by players.
