  • The complex magnetic susceptibility of as-quenched and proton irradiated amorphous ribons of $FE_{81}B_{13.5}Si_{3.5}C_2$ was measured in the frequency range 10 KHz~ 10 MHz. The frequency spectra of real and imaginary parts of susceptibility showed a typical Debye-type relaxation. Relatively high relaxtion frequency, ~3 MHz observed in the present work suggented that domain rotation is involved in the relaxation process. The susceptibility at the low frequency decreased with the irradiation, while that at high frequency increased due to the increasing defect density. The relaxation frequency of domain roation shifted toward higher frequency, due to the increasing pinning force against domain motion by the irradiation.

  • Effect of sulfur segregation on tertiary recrystallization and magnetic induction during final annealing was investigated in a 3% Si-Fe electrical strip containing 6 ppm(LS) and 15 ppm(HS) sulfur. During final annealing, Auger peak height of segregated sulfur on the surface of the strips reached a maximum, and then decreased to low level with increasing annealing time, which is attributed to sulfur segregation and evaporation. The magnetic induction of the thin-gauged 3% Si strip was inversely proportional to the Auger peak height of segregated sulfur on the surface. The overall profile for surface segregation of sulfur and B10 was observed, irrespective of sulfur content in Si-Fe strips, but the peaks of LS strips appeared earlier than those of HS strips. The grain growth rate of the LS strips during final annealing was faster than that of the HS strips, which may be attributed to the pinning effects of segregated sulfur. With increasing final annealing temperature, B10 value increased rapidly and the saturation level in B10 increased.

  • Amorphous Fe$_{79.7}$Si$_{9.3}$B$_{9.7}$Ni$_{1.4}$ ribbon alloys were fabricated by a single roll method. To enhance D. C. bias properties, the magnetic and micro-structural changes have been investigated as the variation of annealing time and condition. The D. C. bias properties were found to be directly related to micro-structural changes. Primary ${\alpha}$-Fe dendrites with 200∼300 nm showed the best D. C. bias properties, which resulted from the magnetic domain wall pinning effect. Due to the differences of cooling rate, the growth shape and distribution of the dendrites is divided into two areas.

  • Ni-Zn ferrite is required to have predominant and stable characteristics in the range of high frequency for the power line communication, so that microstructures and magnetic properties such as power loss and initial permeability in $Ni_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ were investigated in terms of variable $Bi_2O_3,CaO$ and $V_2O_5$ contents. $Bi_2O_3$ and $V_2O_5$ liquid phase created during sintering process promoted sintering and grain growth but much of the closed pore existed in the grains. The grain size of the specimens with $V_2O_5$ of over 0.5 wt% decreased as the result of "pinning effect"and the resonance frequency increased with CaO of 0.3we%. The high initial permeability of 81.52%, resonance frequency of 17.05 MHz and low power loss of 17,858 kW/$\textrm{m}^3$ were obtained from the samples with $Bi_2O_3$ of 0.5, CaO of 0.3, and $V_2O_5$ of 0.7 wt%.

  • The effects of the addition of nanocrystalline Y2O3 powder on the microstructure and superconducting properties have been investigated in YBCO films prepared by TFA-MOD process. Precursor solution doped with extra $Y_2O_3$ Powder was prepared by adding $Y_2O_3$ powder into a stoichiometic precursor solution with a cation ratio of Y:Ba:Cu=1:2:3. Coating solutions with and without $Y_2O_3$ doping were coated on $LaAlO_3(100)$ single crystal by a dip coating method, cacination and conversion heat treatments were performed at the controlled atmosphere containing water vapor Current carry capacity(Jc) of YBCO film was enhanced about 50% by $Y_2O_3$ doping. It is thought that the enhancement of Jc is due to the better connectivity of YBCO grains and/or the flux pinning by the presence of nanocrystalline $Y_2O_3$ Particles embedded in YBCO grains.

  • The sintering behavior and electrical property of $Ce_{0.8}Gd_{0.2}O_{1.9}$ ceramics were investigated with the iron oxide concentration ranging from 0 to 5 mol%. Both the sintered density and grain size were found to increase up to 2 mol% $Fe_2O_3$, and then to decrease with further additions. At a higher $Fe_2O_3$ content above 3 mol%, grain size decreased by a pinning effect induced by different shape grains. The electrical conductivity was also increased with increasing $Fe_2O_3$ content up to 2 mol%. Total conductivity of 2 mol% $Fe_2O_3-added$ specimen showed the maximum conductivity of $2{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ at $500^{\circ}C$. The addition of $Fe_2O_3$ was found to promote the sintering properties and electrical conductivities of $Gd_2O_3-dope\;CeO_2$.

  • By adding 1wt.% $HfB_{2}$ into $Nd_{3-4}Fe_{77-78.5}B_{18.5}$ alloys, the grain growth of $Fe_{3}B/Nd_{2}Fe_{14}B$ composite phases during annealing was found to be hindered by 40~50%. It is proposed that the addition of $HfB_{2}$ leads to the formation of fine dispersoids of $HfB_{2}$ in the $Fe_{3}B/Nd_{2}Fe_{14}B$ composite magnet. The maximum energy product($(B.H)_{max}$) as well as intrinsic coercivity($_{i}H_{c}$) for the $Nd_{3}Fe_{78.5}B_{18.5}\;+\;1wt.%\;HfB_{2}$ alloy were enhanced by more than 25% $(B.H)_{max}=10\;MGOe,\;_{i}H_{c}=2.5\;kOe)$ due to the addition of $HfB_{2}$ while remanent magntization($B_{r}$) was reduced slightly. Itis deduced that the formation of fine dispersoids will also play a role of magnetic domain pinning.

  • This study has been investigated the deformation behavior of a hot-extruded Mg-Zn-RE (RE: rare earth elements) alloy containing $Mg_{12}$(RE) particles at the elevated temperatures. The particles are intrinsically produced by breaking the eutectic structure of the alloy during the hot-extrusion process. The grain size of the extruded Mg-Zn-RE alloy developed via dynamic recrystallization is around $10{\mu}m$. Under the heat treatment at 200o C up to 48 hr, no change has been observed on the microstructure and mechanical properties due to the pinning effect of the thermally stable particles. Under the tensile test condition in the initial strain-rate range of $1\times10^{-3}s^{-1}$ and the temperature range up to $200^{\circ}C$, the alloy shows yield strength of 270 MPa and elongation to failure around 9% at room temperature and yield strength of 135 MPa at $200^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, although the alloy contains large amount of the second phase particles around 15%, it shows excellent hot-workability possibly due to the presence of the thermally stable interface between the particles and the matrix.

  • This study examines the effect of microstructural factors on the strength and deformability of ferrite-pearlite steels. Six kinds of ferrite-pearlite steel specimens are fabricated with the addition of different amounst of Mn and V and with varying the isothermal transformation temperature. The Mn steel specimen with a highest Mn content has the highest pearlite volume fraction because Mn addition inhibits the formation of ferrite. The V steel specimen with a highest V content has the finest ferrite grain size and lowest pearlite volume fraction because a large amount of ferrite forms in fine austenite grain boundaries that are generated by the pinning effect of many VC precipitates. On the other hand, the room-temperature tensile test results show that the V steel specimen has a longer yield point elongation than other specimens due to the highest ferrite volume fraction. The V specimen has the highest yield strength because of a larger amount of VC precipitates and grain refinement strengthening, while the Mn specimen has the highest tensile strength because the highest pearlite volume fraction largely enhances work hardening. Furthermore, the tensile strength increases with a higher transformation temperature because increasing the precipitate fraction with a higher transformation temperature improves work hardening. The results reveal that an increasing transformation temperature decreases the yield ratio. Meanwhile, the yield ratio decreases with an increasing ferrite grain size because ferrite grain size refinement largely increases the yield strength. However, the uniform elongation shows no significant changes of the microstructural factors.

  • Twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steels have attracted great attention due to their excellent mechanical properties of high tensile strength (over 800MPa) and high ductility (over 50%), which result from the high strain hardening due to the mechanical twin formation during plastic deformation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of annealing temperature and alloying elements on the mechanical properties of Fe-18Mn-0.6C TWIP steel. In 1.5%Al TWIP steel with 0.123%Ti content, the average recrystallized grain size was reduced to 2.5 ${\mu}m$ by cold rolling and annealing at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 min, because of the pinning effect of the fine TiC carbides on grain coarsening. The tensile strength was decreased and the ductility was improved with the increase of the annealing temperature. However, a reversion of hardness and yield strength happened between $750^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ due to TiC and $M_3C$ type precipitation. 0.56% Ni added TWIP steel exhibited relatively lower yield strength, because Ni precipitates were not formed during the annealing process. When this specimen was annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ for 5min, the tensile strength and elongation were revealed at 1096MPa and 61.8%, respectively.
