  • With increased use of halftone dot overprints for offset color printing, it is important to study the density and ink trap of the overprints. In this research the equation to predict the density and the method to evaluate ideally the fractional ink trap are preposed. And also the halftone dot overprinting experiments of Magenta over Cyan or Cyan over Magenta under wet-on-wet or wet-on-dry overprinting using 2-color offset press show the above proposals are reasonable, and show the effect of overprinting sequence on the density and ink trap.

  • Direct Printing Process is a suitable fabrication technique to develope pigment components whose dimensions are in nano. The success of this process depends on the sysmatic preparation of pigment millbase. Conventional millbase dispersions are constituted of the organic pigments, monomer, dispersant and solvents. An experimental study on the rheology of millbase dispersions is presented.

  • The studies on the carotenoids in the viscera the brine shrimp(Penaeus Orientalis Kishinouye) have been carried out. The brine shrimps were caught around the western coastal area of Korea from Aug. to Oct. The individual carotenoids in the acetone extracts were separated and purified by the silica gel TLC. Two isolated carotenoids were investigated and identified by epoxide test, partition test, alkaline hydrolysis, reduction with sodium borohydride and visible absorption spectrophqtometry. As the results of the series of experiments, esterified Astaxanthin was discovered as one of main pigments of Penaeus Orientalis Kishinouye.

  • Some pigments of Kumsansa mural painting and Dan-Chong were analyzed by X-ray diffraction spectrometry. Red colour of mural painting and Dan-Chong are all of hematite based quartz and calcite. White blue were found to lead sulphate based calcite on mural painting. Blue pigment on mural painting was found to be quartz, albite, calcite, gypsum and talcwhile Dan-Chong lazurite and gypsum.* Dan-Chong : Exterior painrig with various colours and desingns.

  • Microscopical studies of Leucothrix sp. and its histological effect on the gill tissue of Penaeus japanicus have been made. Infection of Leucothrix sp. results in color change of the gills of the shrimp which is mainly due to the brown or black pigments of the filamentous bacteria. Higher degree of the infections makes necrosis and serious histological changes of the gill tissue and this infection affects the respiratory activity of the shrimp.

  • In the browning reaction of Korean ginseng, it appears that enzymatic and non-enzymatic browning reaction occurred in the initial stage of heating fresh ginseng at low temperature, and then non-enzymatic browning reaction followed in the drying period after heating. Activation energy of the browning reaction for red ginseng was about 9.0 kcal/mol. Browning reaction of red ginseng was accede- rated with an increase in steaming time, and a great extent of browning reaction occurred between 60-90 min of steaming at 10$0^{\circ}C$. Browning pigments of red ginseng were mostly water soluble subset.

  • This study aims to find methods that prevents aging of buildings paint coating and that limits defects in construction. Defects in painting can occur in four stages: pure paint, during painting, after the paint coating has dried, and after some period of time has passed after coating. Paint may become bad due to precipitation of pigments, formation of membranes, and seeding during manufacturing. Therefore, it is important that the paint is well mixed and kept airtight at a cool, dark place. Indents, paint brush strokes, orange peel, separation of colors, and paint running and spreading during the paint work process can be prevented by using high quality materials and applying a high-level of construction method. After the paint coating has dried, boiling, yellowing, poor drying, poor bonding, and/or glen deficiency may occur. These are influenced by the levels of cleanness of the dried product, drying temperature and hydration. Then, when the coating has been left dried for some period of time, cracking, peeling, scaling, swelling, discoloring, and/or rusting may develop due to the ultraviolet and contaminants in the air. Since these defects occur due to inappropriate construction schedule and/or hot and humid condition, one must use weatherproof materials. Furthermore, poor paint color may be caused by contamination in the sample plate, discoloration, and/or discrepancies in colors which are due to material differences, level of glossiness, degree of dispersion, dual color property of metallic colors, precipitation of pigments, etc. One should achieve reduction in construction cost and effectiveness in paint work by limiting contaminations in the construction site and strictly observing to construction regulations.
