In this paper, we introduce two types of algebraic operations on fuzzy numbers using piecewise linear functions and then show that the Zadeh implication is smaller than the Diense-Rescher implication, which is smaller than the Lukasiewicz implication. If ($f$, *) is an available pair, then $A*_mB{\leq}A*_pB{\leq}A*_jB$.

This paper presents an unified method of obtaining the inverse of a matrix whose elements are a linear combination of piecewise constant functions. We show that the inverse of such a matrix can be obtained by solving a set of linear algebraic equations.

In this paper, we consider linear elliptic systems from composite materials where the coefficients depend on the shape and might have the discontinuity between the subregions. We derive a function which is related to the gradient of the weak solutions and which is not only locally piecewise Hölder continuous but locally Hölder continuous. The gradient of the weak solutions can be estimated by this derived function and we also prove the local piecewise gradient Hölder continuity which was obtained by the previous results.

식물병(植物病) 진전곡선(進展曲線)을 간편하고 융통성있게 기술하는 절편(切片) 1차(次) 회귀(回歸)모델이 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서 제안(提案)되었다. 이 모델은 병진전상황(病進展狀況)을 그 진전형태(進展形態)에 따라 소수(少數)의 1차(次) 회귀식(回歸式)으로 나누고 지표변수(指標變數)를 사용(使用)하여 다시 한개로 묶어 작성(作成)된다. 포장시험(圃場試驗)에서 얻은 12개(個)의 실제병진전상황(實際病進展狀況)에 대(對)한 절편(切片) 1차(次) 회귀(回歸)모델의 통계적(統計的) 적합도(適合度)는 기존(旣存)의 두모델(Logistic모델과 Gompertz모델)에 비(比)하여 증진(增進)되었으며 이 모델이 가진 단순성(單純性), 융통성 및 모수예측(母數豫測)의 용이성(容易性)이 논의(論議)되였다. 그 결과(結果), 절편(切片) 1차(次) 회귀(回歸)모델은 식물병(植物病) 진전(進展)을 기술(記述)하는 한 통계적(統計的) 모델로써 유용(有用)하게 사용(使用)될 수 있으리라 생각된다.

Typical application of detecting piecewise-linear curves includes vectorizing of scanned drawings whirh is a vital step in installing any geographic information system. This paper considers the problem of optimally approximating a piecewise linear curve to a set of digital points while satisfying given intersection angles between each pair of neighboring lines. The criterion for optimality is to minimize the sum of squared deviations. The problem is formulated as an unconstrained nonlinear programming model. An algorithm which guarantees an optimal solution is then proposed and its validity is tested with both a synthetically generated image and a real image. The test results illustrate the excellent performance of the proposed algorithm.

Partial rotor rub occurs when an obstacle on the stator of a rotating machinery disturbs the free whirling motion of the rotor, which is more common than full annular rub among the cases of rubbing in rotating machinery. The intermittent contacts and friction during partial rotor rub makes the phenomenon complex. The several nonlinear phenomena of superharmonics, subharmonics, and jump phenomenon are demonstrated for the partial rub using an experimental apparatus in this study. The orbit patterns are also measured experimentally. In order to explain the phenomena of partial rotor rub, the analytical model for the contact between the rotor and stator should be chosen carefully. In this respect, a piecewise-linear model and a rebound model using the coefficient of restitution are investigated on the basis of the experimental observations. Also, Numerical simulations for the two models of contact are done for the various system parameters of clearance, contact stiffness, and friction coefficient. The results show that the piecewise-linear model for partial rotor rub is more plausible to explain the experimental observgations.

The Semantic Web technology, purporting to share, to reuse and to process by machines data stored in the Web environment, incessantly evolves to help human decision making; in particular, decision making based on data, or quantitative decision making. This trend drives researchers to fill the gap with strenuous efforts between the current state of the technology and the terminus of this evolution. The Semantic Web Constraint Language (SWCL) together with SWRL is one of these endeavors to achieve the goal. This paper focuses particularly on how to express the piecewise linear form in the context of SWCL. The importance of this ingredient can be fortified by the fact that any nonlinear expression can be approximated in the piecewise linear form. This paper will also provide the information of how it will work in the decision making process through an example of the Internet shopping mall problem.

본 연구에서는 고해상도 위성영상의 상대기하보정 결과에 건물이 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 건물에서 추출된 정합쌍의 유무에 따른 상대기하보정 결과를 비교한다. 건물 정합쌍의 제거를 위해 수치지형도에서 건물 객체를 추출하여 생성한 건물마스크 영상을 이용하였으며, 추가적으로 수렴각의 크기에 따른 정합쌍 추출 성능 및 상대기하보정 결과를 분석하였다. Affine 및 Piecewise linear 변환모델을 각각 적용하여 건물밀집지역에 대한 상대기하보정 결과를 비교하였다. 실험 결과, Affine 변환모델은 건물 정합쌍 제거 후 전반적인 정확도 향상을 나타내었다. 반면에, Piecewise linear 변환모델은 주변에 건물을 포함하고 있는 검사점에서 정확도가 향상되었으나, 건물이 없는 평탄한 지역의 검사점에서는 정확도 향상이 크지 않았다. 또한, Piecewise linear 변환모델을 적용할 경우 20° 이하의 수렴각을 갖는 영상에서 2 pixels 이하의 안정적인 정확도를 도출하였다.

We get a theorem that there exist at least two solutions for the piecewise linear suspension bridge equation with variable coefficient jumping nonlinearity and Dirichlet boundary condition when the variable coefficient of the nonlinear term crosses first two successive negative eigenvalues. We obtain this multiplicity result by applying Leray-Schauder degree theory.

In this article we consider the following system of piecewise linear difference equations: x_n+1 = |x_n| - y_n - 1 and y_n+1 = x_n + |y_n| - 1. We show that when the initial condition is an element of the closed second or fourth quadrant the solution to the system is either a prime period-3 solution or one of two prime period-4 solutions.
