Communication Effects of Print Ad Having Pictorial Typography (픽토리얼 타이포그래피가 사용된 인쇄 광고의 커뮤니케이션 효과 연구)

  • This research attempts to analyze communication effects of print ad having pictorial typography. 150 Questionnaires were distributed to respondents staying Daejeun City and 148 copies were retreated for five days from April 22nd to 26th, 2012. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha for reliability analysis were utilized for data analysis with SPSS 12.0. For testing hypothesis, regression analysis was used. As result of testing hypothesis, 'informative, beneficial, creative, reliable' were partially significant to attitude towards print ad having pictorial typography. That means 'creative' and 'reliable' were insignificant, while 'informative' and 'beneficial' are significant. Variable of the most influencing on attitude towards advertising is 'informative.' 'Informative, beneficial, creative, and reliable' were partially significant to brand attitude, too. That means 'beneficial' and 'creative' were insignificant, while 'informative' and 'reliable' were significant. Variable of the most influencing on brand attitude was 'reliable.' Therefore, to enhance communication effect of print ad having pictorial typography, 'informative' and 'reliable' are most significant variables.

The Idea Effect of Pictorial Typography Class Using Artpropel (아트프로펠을 활용한 픽토 타이포그래피 수업의 발상 효과)

  • Pictorial typography is a fusion of image and type, which makes it possible to easily and quickly recognize information by complementing the boredom of characters and ambiguity of images. In this study, 6 classes were assigned to the 30 students in A specialization design class and applied artistic propel method to the pictorial typography design class, followed by the process of perception, reflection and creation, We analyze the two evaluation factors, functional and aesthetic changes, and verify the validity of the artpropel course. In the pre-post survey conducted in this study, the self - evaluation and the peer evaluation were improved. Functionality increased by 5.34 points in self evaluation, 5.4 points in peer evaluation, and 2.1 points in self evaluation and 1.8 points in peer evaluation. As a result, it can be seen that the pictorial typography class through the artpropel process helped to improve the functionality and aesthetic, and the effect of functionality was more significant than the aesthetic.

Typography by Guillaume Apolinaire and Filippo Marinetti (기욤 아폴리네르와 필리포 마리네티의 타이포그래피)

  • Guillaume Apolinaire and Filippo Marinetti who are pioneers of the early 20 century in point of breaking traditional typographic rules and making particular typographic communication styles,have considered as the same categorytypoillustration or pictorial typography-in other studies evenif they have' particular differences. Their chromcal and theoretical background, works, exPressive materials and methods and the values were analyzed through thesis, books, periodicals and internet materials, and researched the characteristics. There are clear differences in the view of arranging type; expressive materials, sentence struction, layout. The most important differences are concrete expression by Apolinaire and abstract expression by Marinetti . These differences and characteristics made the base of Dada typography and the concrete typogaphers as Bradbury Thompson and Herb Lubalin were influenced by Apolinaire, abstract typographers as Piet Zwart and Neville Brody were influenced by Marinetti.

Visual Representation in 'Concept Movie Posters' Designed by Chinese Artist HuangHai (중국작가 황해(黃海)의 콘셉트 영화포스터에 나타난 시각적 표현방법)

  • As the film industry develops in China, movie posters come in various types. Among them, 'concept poster' has been recognized as an important means to form the first impression of a movie at the early stage of promoting the movie. In China, however, there are not many movie posters that have been recognized for their creativity. Accordingly, it calls for research on creative methods of implicitly expressing the content of the movie. This study analyzed visual expressions in the concept posters of HuangHai, who has been recognized not only for commerciality but also for artistry. The results showed that he did not use images of famous scenes and actors in the movie. Instead, he created the implicit image that reflects the main theme of the movie by using Minimalism, color, typography, and pictorial images. This study has a significance in terms of providing fundamental resources for improving movie poster designs in China.
