  • We report on the fabrication and measurements of metallic Josephson junctions (JJs) consisting of Au nanoribbon and NbTi superconducting electrodes. The maximum supercurrent density in the junction reaches up to ~ 3×105 A/cm2 at 2.5 K, much larger than that of JJ using single-crystalline Au nanowire. Temperature dependence of the critical current exhibits an exponential decay behavior with increasing temperature, which is consistent with a long and diffusive junction limit. Under the application of a magnetic field, monotonous decrease of the critical current was observed due to a narrow width of the Au nanoribbon. Our observatons suggest that NbTi/Au/NbTi JJ would be a useful platform to develop an integrated superconducing quantum circuit combined with the superconducting coplanar waveguide and ferromagnetic π junctions.

  • High magnetic field effects on the microstructure and magnetic properties of $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ hexaferrites synthesized hydrothermal method have been investigated. The obtained results indicate that the lattice constant decreases gradually as the magnetic field strength increases, which may be attributed to the lattice distortion resulted from the high magnetic field. Polycrystalline $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ samples prepared under magnetic field strength at zero and 5 T are single phase. It is found that application of external magnetic field during synthesis can induce orientated growth of the hexaferrite crystals along the easy magnetic axis. The magnetic properties can be effectively regulated by an application of high magnetic fields. It is observed that the $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ prepared under a 5 T magnetic field exhibits a higher room-temperature saturation magnetization (66.3 emu/g) than that of the sample (43.6 emu/g) obtained without magnetic field. The results can be explained as the enhanced crystalline, improvement of $Fe^{3+}$ ions occupancy and the oriented growth induced by the external magnetic field. The growing orientation of particles gives rise to increased coercivity due to the enhancement in shape anisotropy. It is expected that an application of magnetic field during the formation of magnetic nanoparticles could be a promising technique to modify magnetic properties with excellent performance.

  • We synthesized bis (2-methyl-8-quinolinolato)(triphenylsiloxy) aluminum (III) (SAlq), a blue-emitting material having a high luminous efficiency, through a homogeneous-phase reaction. The photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) spectra of SAlq show two peaks at 454 nm and 477 nm. Efficient white light-emitting devices are fabricated by doping SAlq with a red fluorescent dye of 4-dicyanomethylene-2-methyl-6-{2-(2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H,5H-benzo[i,j]quinolizin-8yl) vinyl}-4H-pyran (DCM2). The incomplete energy transfer from blue-emitting SAlq to red-emitting DCM2 results in light-emission of both blue and orange colors. Devices with the structure of ITO/TPD (50 nm)/SAlq:DCM2 (30 nm, 0.5 %)/$Alq_3$ (20 nm)/LiF (0.5 nmj/Al show EL peaks at 456 nm and 482 nm originating from SAlq and at 570 nm from DCM2, resulting in the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of (0.32, 0.37). The device exhibits an external quantum efficiency of about 2.3 % and a luminous efficiency of about 2.41m/W at 100 $cd/m^2$. A maximum luminance of about 23,800 $cd/m^2$ is obtained at the bias voltage of 15 V.

  • We have achieved an improved stability of an analog electro-optic effect in FLC/polymer composite films. The optimization of device depends on both the composition of the FLC/polymer mixture and the energy of UV irradiation. This device exhibits continuous gray scales and the mechanical stability against external forces.

  • The electronic and magnetic properties of Cu-doped GaN with a Cu concentration of 6.25% and 12.5% are examined theoretically using the full-potential linear muffin-tin orbital method. The magnetic moment of Cu atoms decreases with increasing Cu concentration. The spin-polarization of Cu atoms is reduced due to the Cu d-d interaction depending on the distance between the nearest neighbouring Cu atoms. Cu atoms exhibits a clustering tendency in GaN. For Cu-adsorbed GaN thin films with a surface coverage of 0.25, the ferromagnetic state is found to be the energetically favourable state with an induced magnetic moment of $0.54\;{\mu}_B$ per supercell.

  • We describe a simple method for obtaining a narrow dip with subnatural linewidth in Doppler-free laser spectroscopy. The method is based on detecting the absolute magnitude, |Re[$\chi$NL($\omega$-$\omega$o)]|, of the dispersive component (real part) of the nonlinear susceptibility induced by the pump beam, and the line shape recorded therefore exhibits a fully resolved technique and a dual phase lock-in amplifier, we have demonstrated the dip as narrow as 3 MHz in the laser-induced birefringence spectrum of the Na D1 line (natural linewidth 10 MHz). Possible spectroscopic applications are considered.

  • We solve the momentum resolved d-wave Eliashberg equation employing the magnetic excitation spectrum from the inelastic neutron scattering on the LSCO superconductors reported by Vignolle et al. The magnetic excitation spectrum exhibits 2 peaks: a sharp incommensurate peak at 18 meV at momentum (${\pi}$, ${\pi}{\pm}{\delta}$) and (${\pi}{\pm}{\delta}$, ${\pi}$) and another broad peak near 40~70 meV at momentum (${\pi}$, ${\pi}$). Above 70 meV, the magnetic excitation spectrum has a long tail that is shaped into a circle centered at (${\pi}$, ${\pi}$) with ${\delta}$. The sign of the real part of the self-energy is determined by the momentum position of the peaks of the magnetic excitation spectrum and bare dispersion. We will discuss the effects of the each component of the magnetic excitation spectrum on the self-energy, the pairing self-energy.

  • We have fabricated a single-electron-tunneling(SET) transistor with a dual gate geometry based on the SOI structure prepared by SIMOX wafers. The split-gate is the lower-gate is the lower-level gate and located ∼ 100${\AA}$ right above the inversion layer 2DEG active channel, which yields strong carrier confinement with fully controllable tunneling potential barrier. The transistor is operating at low temperatures and exhibits the single electron tunneling behavior through nano-size quantum dot. The Coulomb-Blockade oscillation is demonstrated at 15mK and its periodicity of 16.4mV in the upper-gate voltage corresponds to the formation of quantum dots with a capacity of 9.7aF. For non-linear transport regime, Coulomb-staircases are clearly observed up to four current steps in the range of 100mV drain-source bias. The I-V characteristics near the zero-bias displays typical Coulomb-gap due to one-electron charging effect.

  • We investigated the half-metallicity and magnetism at the (001) and (110) surfaces of YC in zinc-blende structure by using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method within the generalized gradient approximation. From the calculated local density of states, we found that neither (001) nor (110) surface preserves the half-metallicity. While the magnetic moment of Y atom in the YC bulk is $0.116{\mu}_B$, it is $0.057{\mu}_B$ at the topmost layer of Y-terminated (001) surface. On the contrary, C-terminated (001) YC surface exhibits stronger magnetism than the bulk structure; the calculated magnetic moment on topmost C atom is $1.084{\mu}_B$, while that of C atom in the bulk structure is $0.423{\mu}_B$. The magnetic properties of the non-polar (110) YC surface are slightly enhanced as compared with the bulk structure.

  • We present the application of the Point Spread Function (PSF) deconvolution method to the astronomical Integral Field Unit (IFU) Spectroscopy data focus on the restoration of the galaxy kinematics. We apply the Lucy-Richardson deconvolution algorithm to the 2D image at each wavelength slice. We make a set of mock IFU data which resemble the IFU observation to the model galaxies with a diverse combination of surface brightness profile, S/N, line-of-sight geometry and Line-Of-Sight Velocity Distribution (LOSVD). Using the mock IFU data, we demonstrate that the algorithm can effectively recover the stellar kinematics of the galaxy. We also show that lambda_R_e, the proxy of the spin parameter can be correctly measured from the deconvolved IFU data. Implementation of the algorithm to the actual SDSS-IV MaNGA IFU survey data exhibits the noticeable difference on the 2D LOSVD, geometry, lambda_R_e. The algorithm can be applied to any other regular-grid IFS data to extract the PSF-deconvolved spatial information.
