  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between physical performance, such as gait and postural control, and cognition on as assessed by clinical tools in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke. Methods : Twenty-six patients who had hemiparetic stroke participated in this study, and were evaluated four common clinical measurements, including the Berg balance scale (BBS), 10 meter walk test (10MWT), 6 minute walking test (6MWT), and Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA). Multiple regression analysis was used BBS score, 10MWT, and 6MWT as the dependent variables; MoCA score, post-stroke duration, age, and affected side as independent variables. Results : In the regression equation of the BBS score, the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.875, the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.786, and the MoCA score was the most important variable for determining the BBS score. In the regression equation for the 10MWT, ther was 0.888, the R2 was 0.999, and the MoCA score was the most important variable for determining 10MWT. Finally, the r was 0.777, the R2 was 0.998, and the MoCA score was the most important variable for determining 6MWT in the regression equation of the 6MWT. Conclusion : The results show that cognitive abilities affect gait proficiencies in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke. Therefore, these results suggest that cognitive tests are necessary for examining and evaluating the abilities of postural control and gait performance for chronic stroke patients in research and clinical environments.

  • In this paper, the informative space is proposed to implant ubiquitous functions into physical spaces. We merge physical and virtual spaces through the space structurization using an RFID system, and solve the space localization and mapping problem for a robot to navigate through the distribution and synthesis of information and knowledge. To distribute knowledge flexibly and reliably to changing environment and also to develop a system which allows a robot to invoke and merge the distributed knowledge more freely, we employ a novel approach of knowledge management based on Web services. The proposed method is verified by building a physical space with two kinds of RFID tags and a virtual space with knowledge database based on Web services.

  • An analytic solution for the spectral response of linearly-chirped grating filter is derived, which takes the finite physical length of filter into account. In the usual case of broad-band linearly-chirped grating filter the analytic solution is expressed in terms of elementary functions, by approximating asymptotically the involved parabolic cylinder functions over different ranges of its argument. It is also shown that derived results are general enough to include previously-available approximations as particular cases, and that they agree well with the numerical solutions based upon the Runge-Kutta method.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine total logistics concept performed by 3rd party logistics, managing with 4th party logistics to achieve more efficient and systematic dealing with sub-functions of physical distribution process. Research design and methodology - The research method to be adopted is first to review 3th party logistics providers that has attracted to various functions of 4PL, and then total logistics concept to be investigated which is related to 3 PL and 4 PL. Results - For the total logistics concept implemented by 3PL, management technique should be widen, then 3 PL's service activities and area should extend. Especially for the collaboration effects between the company and external organizations, it can be collaborated with some commitments in terms of their own independent activities, carrying on inherent functions by both 3PL and 4PL, pursuing total logistics concept. Conclusions - More areas of logistics service has been required by clients in the field, and service activities available is strongly related to roles of 3th party logistics providers as main player in logistics market. However, total logistics management is could be implemented by 3PL combining with various functions of logistics service offered by 4th logistics provider.

  • This study is to examine the effects of a feedback breathing device exercise and diaphragm breathing exercise on pulmonary functions of chronic strokes patients. The selection of 20 subjects was divided equally and placed into a experiment group and a control group and the intervention was applied four times per a week for five weeks. In each session, both groups received rehabilitative exercise treatment for 30 minutes, and a feedback breathing device exercise for 15 minutes. In addition, experimental group conducted a combination of diaphragm breathing exercise for 15 minutes. Prior to and after the experiment, patients' pulmonary functions were measured using a spirometer. The pulmonary function tests included FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, PEF, VC, TV, IC, ERV, IRV. With respect to changes in the pulmonary functions of both groups, the experimental group significantly differed in FVC, FEV1, TV, ERV but did not in PEF, FEV1/FVC, VC, IRV. The control group did not significantly differ in any of the tests. There were significant differences in FEV1, FEV1/FVC, TV, ERV between the two groups, but no significant differences in FVC, PEF, FEV1/FVC, VC, IRV between them after the experiment. The experimental group, which conducted a combination of a feedback breathing device exercise and diaphragm breathing exercise, saw their respiratory ability increase more significantly than the control group. The breathing exercise was found to improve pulmonary function in chronic stroke patients.

  • Inspired by the results obtained by Brychkov ([2]), the authors evaluate a large number of new and interesting double definite integrals. The results are obtained with the use of classical hypergeometric summation theorems and a well-known double finite integral due to Edwards ([3]). The results are given in terms of Psi and Hurwitz zeta functions suitable for numerical computations.

  • Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between isokinetic strength training and the enhancement of physical function in older adults. It also evaluates the effectiveness of isokinetic strength training equipment. Method: This study randomly divided twenty healthy adults into two groups. The experimental group engaged in isokinetic strength training for 30 minutes, three times a week, over a four-week period. In contrast, the control group did not participate in any exercise regimen. We assessed several outcome measures including physical functions (sit-to-stand test, flexibility, Timed Up and Go test), grip strength, balance, thigh circumference, the Korean version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and the Korean version of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Additionally, the experimental group's self-perceived improvement in lower limb condition was evaluated using the Global Rating of Change (GROC) scale. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements compared to the control group in various aspects: reduced sit-to-stand test duration (7.00±2.05 seconds), increased flexibility (4.69±3.90 cm), improved grip strength (1.54±1.74 kg), increased thigh circumference (left: 1.29±1.19 cm, right: 1.19±1.27 cm), enhanced Timed Up and Go test performance (-1.47±0.86 seconds), better balance (eyes open stance: -8.08±4.03 cm, eyes closed stance: -0.27±0.13 cm/s), and a decrease in depression severity (-0.15±1.51 points). Furthermore, significant increases were observed in the experimental group's maximal isokinetic strength at 90°/s for both flexion (19.62±7.03 Nm) and extension (19.60±14.65 Nm) over the study period. Conclusion: The findings suggest that isokinetic strength training equipment can significantly enhance physical functions in seniors when incorporated into an exercise regimen.

  • Recently several authors have extended the Gamma function, Beta function, the hypergeometric function, and the confluent hypergeometric function by using their integral representations and provided many interesting properties of their extended functions. Here we aim at giving further extensions of the abovementioned extended functions and investigating various formulas for the further extended functions in a systematic manner. Moreover, our extension of the Beta function is shown to be applied to Statistics and also our extensions find some connections with other special functions and polynomials such as Laguerre polynomials, Macdonald and Whittaker functions.

  • In this article, by making use of the λ-pseudo-starlike functions, we introduce a certain family of normalized analytic functions in the open unit disk U and we establish coefficient estimates for the first four determinants of the Toeplitz matrices T2(2), T2(3), T3(2) and T3(1) for the functions belonging to this family. Further, some known and new results which follow as special cases of our results are also mentioned.
