Polyorganosiloxane having controlled cross-linking density and phenyl group content were prepared by dimethyldimethoxysilane (DMDMS), methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and phenyltrimethoxysilane (PTMS). The effect of cross-linking density and phenyl group content on the physical properties of siloxane resin and its coated film have been invetigated. Si-NMR results confirmed that synthesized siloxane resins have equivalent D $T^{Me}$$T^{Ph}$ structures according to applied mole ratios of DMDMS, MTMS and PTMS. Polyorganosiloxane having higher cross-linking density with high phenyl content showed the high molecular weight and increasing phenyl content resulted in higher refractive index as well as better thermal stability. Cross-linking density is more important factor than phenyl content to obtain higher pencil hardness of coated film on the glass. Our results concluded that even polyorganosiloxanes having similar siloxane structures show different physical properties as function of cross-linking density and phenyl content in polyorganosiloxane.
Chlorination of aromatic derivatives under UV light and ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation was studied. Ethyl ${\alpha} ,{\beta} -dichloro-{\beta}$-phenyl propionate gave the p-chlorophenyl derivatives when chlorination was done under UV light. The same type of the product was obtained in the reaction where the mole ratio of the ester and chlorine was 1 to 2 and the chlorination was done under ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation. When the mole ratio of the ester and chlorine was 1 to 8, the chlorination reaction under ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation gave a poly-chlorinated derivatives which was identified as a side chain chlorinated p-chlorophenyl derivatives. Ethyl ${\alpha} ,{\beta} -dichloro-{\beta}$-(p-chlorophenyl) propionate gave the same type of the side chain chlorinated p-chloro derivatives by the chlorination under ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation, whereas ethyl ${\alpha} ,{\beta} -dichloro-{\beta}$-(o-chlorophenyl) derivatives gave o,p-dichlorophenyl derivatives. The identifications of the products were based on a radio thin layer chromatography and activation analysis of chlorine contents of product. The chlorination reaction was discussed in regards to the effect of phenyl substituents to the formation of reaction product and the procedures were described.
The protective efficacy of Rheum palmatum water extract on 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced parkinsonism was studied in C57BL/6 mice. In order to demonstrate neuroprotective effect of R. palmatum extract, animals were administered intraperitoneally with the water extract (100 or 200 mg/kg/day) for 14 days, and MPTP (10 mg/kg/day) was injected subcutaneously into the mice for the first 6 consecutive days from the beginning 1 hr before R. palmatum extract treatment. All animals were measured the several neurobiochemical markers such as dopamine level and monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity in various regions of brain. The treatment of mice with R. palmatum extract was confirmed recovery effect on MAO-B activity in the cerebellum and the cerebral cortex. R. palmatum extract was attenuated the MPTP-induced depletion of substantia nigra dopamine. The contents of MDA, a marker of lipid peroxidation, in brain tissues (cerebellum and cerebral cortex mitochondria) were decreased significantly by R. palmatum extract. These results suggest that R. palmatum water extract plays an effective role in attenuating MPTP-induced neurotoxicity in mice. This protective effect of R. palmatum might be estimated the result from the inhibitory activity on monoamine oxidase B and the enhancement of antioxidant activity.

The lactulose contents in market milks were analyzed by gas chromatographic method. The method is evaluated for accurac and reproducibility using phenyl-$\beta$-D-glucoside as an internal standard. The response factor(RF) of lactulose of standard mixture was 1.15 the recoveries were 97.4-101.3% and the reproducibility was determined on the coefficeitns of variation 24.8% for pasteurized milk and 4.6-4.9% for UHT milk The lactulose contents of 16 brands of the market milks determined were 5.3-59.7mg/100ml in UHT milk and 1.3-1.8mg/100ml in pasteurized milk.
Organic-inorganic hybrid coating film using 1,2-bis(2,4-dimethyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluoro-1-cyclopentene (BTHFC) as a photochromic material was prepared under various reaction conditions such as the amounts of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS), various silane coupling agents, and solvent. It was found that color-fading speed and absorbance of the coating film was strongly dependent upon the polarity of silane coupling agent and solvent. In addition, the mole ratio of TMOS and methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) was an important factor to determine color-fading speed and absorbance of the coating film. With increasing TMOS contents in coating film, the pencil hardness was increased. On the other hands, the transmittance of coating film was relatively decreased with the increase of TMOS.

Curing behavior and glass transition temperatures of epoxy resins into which reactive diluents were added to control processability were investigated. Heat of cure generated of the epoxy resin was reduced with butyl glycidyl ether(BGE) and phenyl glycidyl ether(PGE) contents. $T_g$ of the resin was decreased with the amount of reactive diluents and it was attributed to increased molecular weight between crosslink points. Cure kinetics of the resins was studied employing autocatalytic reaction model and found that reaction constants decreased as the contents of reactive diluent was increased.
Photolysis experiments were conducted to investigate the stability of a new insecticide, [O,O-Diethyl O-(1-phenyl-3-trifluoromethyl-5-pyrazoyl) thiophosphoric acid ester: KH-502] under the various conditions. In the photolysis experiment, KH-502 was, after being added into the acetone or acetonitrile solution, irradiated under the sunlight or UV lamp $(300{\sim}350nm)$, where acetone or acetonitrile solution was varied with water and $O_2$contents and was treated with humic acid, rosebengal or tryptophan. Results for stability and degradation pattern of KH-502 from the above experiment can be summarized as follows: 1. The significant difference in KH-502 decomposition due to photolysis was shown for between KH-502s irradiated at $300{\sim}350$ nm and non-irradiated. KH-502 was photolyzed in the acetone by the sensitizing effect, but was stable in the acetonitrile. 2. The degradation pattern of KH-502 in the photolysis was different as compared to that in the thermal decomposition, and the decomposed products were O,O-Diethyl O-(1-phenyl-3-trifluoromethyl-5-pyrazoyl)phosphoric acid ester (KH-502 oxo form), O,S-Diethyl O-(1-phenyl-3-trifluoromethyl-5-pyrazoyl)phosphorothiolate(S-ethyl KH-502), 1-Phenyl-3-trifluoromethyl-5-hydroxy pyrazole (PTMHP) and several unknown compounds. 3. Treatments of acetone or acetonitrile solution with humic acid, rosebengal or tryptophan revealed no-sensitizing effect on the photolysis of KH-502. Dissolved oxygen in the acetone played as a cosensitizer with acetone competitively to enhance the photolysis of KH-502. 4. Treatments of acetone with humic acid or paddy soil water collected from fields decreased the photolysis of KH-502.
Lupenone and lupeol, the triterpenoids of Sorbus Cortex, were isolated with silica gel column chromatography and used as the standard substances for the quantitative analysis. The compounds were identified with IR, NMR, EI-MS. They were separated on VA-5MS [(5%-phenyl)methylpolysiloxane, $30m{\times}0.25mm$, $0.25{\mu}m$] column by gas-chromatograph. The contents of lupeone and lupeol in three different samples of Sorbus Cortex were in the range of 0.050~0.056% and 0.772~0.834%, respectively.
Volatile aroma components, non-volatile organic acids in lamina and stems of flue-cured(NC 2326) and burley ( Burley 21) were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, respectively. Then compositional differences of these components between lamina and stems were discussed. The contents of volatile components were higher in flue-cured than in burley tobacco, and it was also higher in lamina then in stem. The major aroma components in lamina were neophytadiene , nicotine, solanone and benzyl alcohol but those in stems were palmitic acid, neophytadiene, nicotine, solanone and phenyl ethyl acetate. On the other hand, the contents of non-volatile organic acids were higher in burley than in flue-cured tobacco, and these values of burley tobacco were higher in lamina than in stem but flue-cured tobacco were higher in stem than in lamina. The major acids in all the above four tabacco samples were malic, citric, oxalic and linolenic acid.
Different amounts of the Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten fruit were soaked in different alcohol concentrations of a Korean rice wine distillate for 4 months. Changes in pH, brix degree, contents of reducing sugar and polyphenol compound, alcohol concentration, turbidity, and color were analyzed during the soaking period. Quality of the final product was determined through the analysis of the volatile flavor compounds and sensory evaluation. During the soaking periods, pH, alcohol concentration, and contents of polyphenol compound decreased, whereas the content of reducing sugar increased. These changes were affected more by the content of the fruit than the alcohol concentration of the soaking media. Turbidity of the wine increased with higher fruit contents, while the increase of alcohol concentration resulted in the turbidity decrease. As the soaking period increased, lightness and yellowness increased but redness decreased. Acetaldehyde, acetyl acetone, ethyl alcohol, guaiacol, thymol, and acetic acid phenyl ester were detected in all liquors. Significant differences in all sensory attributes test were shown by six experimental groups (p<0.05), and the best overall acceptability was obtained from the liquor made of 67% fruits and 30% alcohol concentration.
