Purpose : This study was designed to apply a "stage of change" exercise intervention program to obese children in elementary school and to examine its effects on their BMI. stage of change. process . and self-efficacy in exercise. Methods : The experimental group included 64 children in the fourth . fifth and sixth grades. from one elementary school. whose BMI was in the H5th percentile or more for their age groups. The control group had 6 1 students from a different one elementary school whose conditions were the same as those of the experimental group. Results: After the stage of change exercise intervention was applied, the BMI of the experimental group decreased by a significant enough degree to conclude that the program was effective in decreasing BMI. After the application of the program. the experimental group experienced a significant increase in their helping relationships. counter-conditioning . reinforcement management and stimulus control compared 10 the control group. After the program. self-efficacy in terms of exercise increased significantly in the experimental group. Conclusion: A stages of change exercise intervention program has been shown to engage individual students and encourage them 10 maintain a higher fitness level that promote s self-efficacy in exercise and therefore moves them towards healthier lifestyles. Moreover. the study proved that a significant reduction of BMI was achieved by the stages of change exercise intervention program.
This study were conducted to assess the physical growth and developmental status of infants in orphanage in order to provide an empirical data. The subjects for this study were 104 infants and toddlers who were reared in an orphanage in D Metropolitan city. The instrument used for this study were anthropometric assessment and DDST for normative data of development. Data has been collected from September 1st, 1998 to August 31st, 2000 and were analyzed using SPSS/PC(Version 10.0) with frequency, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA and Chi-square test. The results of this study were as follows; 1. 30.8% of infants in orphanage had abnormal weight, 26.9% had abnormal length, and 22.1% had abnormal head circumference and most of them were distributed below 50 percentile of growth chart. 2. 53.8% of infants in orphanage had normal, 27.9% had qustionable, and 18.3% had abnormal developmental screening test results, especially, 31.5% of infants in orphanage ages 3 to 5 years had abnormal developmental screening test results, according to the Denver Developmental Screening Test(DDST). There was a significant developmental delay noted in the language and fine motor-adaptive sector. 3. It is anticipated that developmental delays would increase in severity by older the mean age of orphanage infants and longer the time being raised in orphanage. It would be concluded that the physical growth and developmental status of orphaned infants were very vulnerable and serious and it is suggested that there needed an effective intervention strategies to promote growth and development of infants in orphanage.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the deficits in executive function in children with ADHD and anxiety disorder, and further, to characterize executive function deficits among the two groups. Methods : Subjects consisted of 60 children between the ages of 5 and 14 (16 Normal, 24 ADHD, 20 Anxiety Disorder). Neuropsychological tests (KEDI-WISC, CCTT, STROOP, WCST, ROCF) for assessing cognitive and executive function were individually administered to all subjects. Results : There were no significant differences in FSIQ or PIQ among the three groups. However, the ADHD group tended to score lower on the VIQ and subtest of similarity, vocabulary, and digit span tests. The three groups did not significantly differ with respect to CCTT test results. On the STROOP test, the ADHD group showed poor performance on the word, color, and color-word subtests. The three groups did not exhibit significant differences in WCST test results ; however, the anxiety group performed poorly belonging to below 25 percentile rank on perseverative response. On the ROCF test, the ADHD group performed poorly with respect to their organization score and in particular, regarding copy and immediate recall. The anxiety group also performed poorly with regard to organization ; however, this was limited only to immediate recall. Conclusion : Children with ADHD displayed poor inhibition and organizational abilities compared to children with anxiety and normal controls. Further, children with anxiety disorder exhibited low cognitive flexibility and voluntary problem-solving abilities compared to ADHD children and normal controls. Based on these results, we suggest that the characteristics of executive dysfunction in ADHD and anxiety disorder in children are different.
The purpose of this study is finding a solution to increase the consumption of Korean cookies by investigating and analyzing the actual consumption patterns, suggestions fur improvement and preferences for Korean cookies. The data fer this study was collected from 358 housewives living in Daegu province. Results show that 77.4% of housewives in this locale eat Korean cookies on a special day such as memorial service day of ancestors, festive day or party. The frequency of having Korean cookies were significantly different due to the income (p<.05): the higher the income, the more often people had Korean cookies. They usually purchase Korean cookies on the market rather than making them by themselves. The percentile of housewives who have never made Korean cookies before was up to 51.7% Only the housewives over fifty had some experience making the Korean cookies. The number of people who teamed the method fur making Korean cookies from their family elders increased according to their age. The reasons why they buy Korean cookies on the market are as follows: the most frequent answer (45.5%) was the price. 34.5% of the responder리s did not know how to make them. 32.1% replied that the process is too complex and troublesome. The most frequent requests for the market was expanding the diversity and improving the quality. In response to why they want the Korean cookies to be inherited. 68.8% of respondents answered that it is traditional culture. 4.01% of respondents replied that `ssalyeatgangung' is their favorite Korean cookie. 3.90% of them like 'sanja' the best and 3.91% of the housewives preferred yakwa to other Korean cookies. Objectives: This study was performed to investigate secular trends in height, weight, obesity among Korean children and adolescents in 2006-2015. Methods: The study participants were 1,249,698 children and adolescents 6-17 years in age who participated in health examinations for school students supervised by Korean Ministry of Education and conducted by the Korea Association of Health Promotion in 2006-2015. Height and weight were measured unified procedures at each period. Obesity was defined as being 95th percentile of sex-specific body mass index(BMI) for age in the 2007 Korean National Growth Charts or $BMI{\geq}25$. Results: Between 2006 and 2015, the median of height and weight, BMI of Korean children and adolescents has increased significantly. The overall prevalence of obesity was 10.7%(boys 12.6%, girls 8.7%). In 2012-2015, the prevalence of obesity 12.2%(boys 14.1%, girls 10.2%), compared to 9.1%(boys 10.9%, 7.2%) in 2006-2008. The increase in obesity prevalence was statistically significant(p<0.05). The prevalence was highest in Gyeonggi area, lowest in Chungcheong area when compared to other regions(p<0.001). Conclusions: During the period 2006-2015, growth trends, prevalence of obesity among Korean children and adolescents increased significantly. Health promotion and intervention programs promoting healthy growth and development of Korean children and adolescents were need consider the demographic and regional characteristics.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the elementary preservice teachers' conceptions about 'plastics' focusing on non-polar property from a National University of Education. For the study, the views about plastics, relative shapes of a water droplet on plastic or glass material, and relative shapes of water surface in the plastic or glass measuring cylinder were surveyed from the preservice teachers. And the responses were analyzed based on the patterns. The results from the study are as follows: First, most preservice teachers were well aware of the plastic products which are used in daily life. Second, the responses concerning the reason why plastics can be used commonly were divided into 2 categories with 14 sub-level groups. However relatively few preservice teachers mentioned regarding 'chemical stability' and 'conductivity', which are associated with the plastics' non-polar property. Third, it was found that 50 participants (30.1%) had 'Scientific conception (Sc)', 38 (22.9%) had 'Partial-scientific conception (Ps)', 66 (39.8%) had 'Misconception (Mc)', and 12 (7.2%) had 'No conception (Nc)' on the subject of the relative shapes of a water droplet. Fourth, the distribution patterns and the ratio of the preservice teachers' conception on the survey question 3 concerning the relative shapes of water surface were quite similar to those of the survey question 2. So it was concluded that overall understanding level of the preservice teachers was pretty low on the subjects of the relative polarities of the plastic, glass, and water as well as their interactions. Fifth, the distribution percentile of 'Sc'/'Ps'/'Mc'/'Nc' was not related with the gender but highly correlated with preservice teachers' academic field and their science subjects taken in high school. Based on the results from the study, some educational guidelines were suggested.
This study aims to find the perception and utilization of the citizen about the dryness watch warning (DWW) among special weather reports. For this we have made up a descriptive questionnaire including the perception, utilization of special weather reports. Using the SPSS 17.0 program, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test were used to analyze the collected data. The results are as follows; The perception of DWW is measured by 4 point Likert scale and the average is $15.97{\pm}3.70$ (percentile=57.0). This value shows that the awareness level is not that high and according to the occupation, college students show the lowest awareness and housewives show the highest awareness. According to the age, the teens and twenties show the lowest awareness and fifties and sixties show the highest awareness. Although the perception of the teens and college students are rather poor, there were many positive answers that it is necessary to establish the advanced disaster prevention plan according to the questionnaire about the utilization of DWW. Therefore, if we come up with an effective plan to improve the perception than we can expect a large-effect in terms of fire and forest fire prevention. The perception of DWW can be improved by providing weather information and weather related education program on TV or internet which have the high level of preference. Also, it is necessary to provide online and offline program of advertising education and disaster management education through the weather forecast bureau which is the host organization of delivering weather information.
This study was conducted to investigate correlation between soybean and their products consumption and risk factors for atherosclerosis in the healthyKorean adults. Health behaviors such as smoking, exercise, alcohol consumption and dietary patterns and nutrient intakes of 193 healthy adult subjects aged from 26 to 69 were assessed by using interview and semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. The BMI, blood pressure and biochemical parameters of blood were examined as well as preferences for taste and family history of disease. Data were expressed as quartile according to soybean and their products consumption. The average daily soybean and their product consumption for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th percentile group were 36, 78, 112, and 182g, respectively. The more consumption of soybean and their products, the more intake of energy, protein, lipid, fiber, Ca, cholesterol as well as frequency of exercise, smoking and drinking. Serum TG, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol and AI as risk factors of atherosclerosis were positively correlated with smoking and drinking (p<0.05). Especially, serum TG was positively correlated with hypertension and BMI (p<0.01). But, no correlation between exercise, salty taste, meat preference, soybean products consumption and atherosclerosis risk factors was found, which means that life styles such as smoking and drinking rather than dietary habits might influence atherosclerosis in healthy adults. In conclusion, present soy products consumption should be increased by way of developing new generation soy products in order to exert anti-atherosclerotic effect by soybean in human.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among nutritional status of copper and zinc, serum leptin, and lipids of 99 middle school girls residing in kyunggi-do, Korea. Subjects were divided assigned to one of two groups such as normal (BMI<85 percentile, n=58) and obese (85$\leq$BMI, n=41) groups. Subjects were evaluated based on anthropometric measurements, 24-hr dietary recalls and blood analysis. The mean age was 13.93 years. The mean weight (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001), body fat (p<0.001) of obese were significantly higher then those of normal group. The mean daily energy intake was 94.2% of RDA for Korean. The ratio of energy coming from carbohydrate, fat and protein was 63:24:13. The mean daily intakes of Cu and Zn were 1.4 mg and 7.4 mg (73.7% of RDA), and there were no significant difference between two groups. The mean serum levels of leptin (p<0.001), LDL-cholesterol (p<0.05), triglyceride (p<0.01), TPH (total cholesterol/HDL; p<0.001), LPH (LDL/HDL; p<0.001) and AI (atherogenic index; p<0.001) of obese were significantly higher than those of normal group. The mean serum Cu level of obese was significantly higher than normal group but, the mean serum Zn level of obese was significantly lower than normal group. Serum Cu showed a significantly positive correlations with body weight (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001), body fat (p<0.001), serum leptin, and LPH. However, serum Zn showed a significantly negative correlations with body weight (p<0.001), BMI (p<0.001), serum leptin (p<0.001), TPH (p<0.05), and AI (Atherogenic index; p<0.05). To summarize the results, the Zn intakes of middle school girls did not reach to RDA for Koreans. Also, increase of BMI may lead to decrease of serum zinc level and increase of serum copper level, and this change of serum zinc related to the change of serum leptin and serum lipids level in middle school girls during rapid growth.
The purpose of this study is to find out the level of purchasing behavior and related variables of Korean adolescents in Kangwon Province. and to suggest a direction of consumer education for rational purchase and of Home Economics Education. through noticing the influence of socio-demographic variables and socialization-related variables. To find out the results of this study, a survey was made using questionnaires with middle school students who live in Kang-won Province. and 472 Questionnaires were used as the analysis data. The methods of statistical analysis used for this study were Cronbach' ${\alpha}$. Frequency Distribution, Percentile. Mean. Standard Deviation. ANOVA, t-test. Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Multiple Regression Analysis. and also SPSS PC+ was used. The summaries of the results of this study were as follows. First. the level of the adolescents'purchasing behavior was the average 3.34 which is higher than the centered number 3, and the level of pre-Purchasing behavior(3.36) was higher than that of the post-purchasing behavior (3.27). Second. the adolescents' purchasing behavior showed the significant difference according to the mothers' educational level and family income. Third among the socialization-related variables. the group which had much communications with their parents and friends about purchase. the group which got much consumer education in school and their home. the group which can see much advertisements about purchase showed high level of purchasing behavior. Fourth. in the regression analysis. the consumer education in school. the communication with parents or friends were significant variables to the level of purchasing behavior. Looking into the subcategory. the communication with parents. the amount of pocket money. the father's occupation were significant variables to the level of pre-purchasing behavior, And the consumer education in school. the communication with parents or friends. the father's occupation were significant variables to the level of post-purchasing behavior.
