  • This study explores the major factors that are likely to affect the acceptance and resistance of innovative products and services. The TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) has been widely used for understanding consumer acceptance of new technology. This model displays perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use as antecedents of intention to adopt and use. However, research has reported a variety of preceding variables for technology acceptance. In addition, considering paradoxes of technology, research regarding both acceptance and resistance in an integrated model can explain consumer perception and behavior in detail. The results of this study states that relative benefits, degree of innovation in technology, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have had positive influence on the intention to adopt but negative impact on that of resistance. However, alterations of usage and perceived risk positively affects resistance, but also have negative effects on the intention to adopt. Finally, intention to adopt has comparatively greater influence than that of resistance on intention to use. Theoretical and managerial implications of the results are also discussed.

  • In 2005, Korean government created the Internet Personal Identification Number (i-PIN) for a new online personal identification system to protect citizens' personal information against criminal abuse. However, i-PINs have not been widely in use over a decade. Although many people joined the i-PIN service, its actual use rate has been low. This study intends to identify the factors necessary to boost the continuous use of i-PINs. It was shown that government support and perceived security had a positive effect on the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of the i-PIN, respectively. Perceived security also directly affected the continuous use intention of the i-PIN. The perceived ease of use significantly affected the perceived usefulness, but it did not affect the intention to continuously use the i-PIN. The factor that had the most significant influence on the continuous use intention of the i-PIN was perceived usefulness. To increase the i-PIN use rate, Korean government must reduce users' anxiety through strict security functions, and must attempt to help people use the i-PIN easily.

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the factors affecting the intention to use the IPA focusing on functional characteristics. Based on the research result, this research has significance in that it not only suggested strategic guidelines for the related business operators, it also helped identify the factors that will influence the intention to use an intelligent personal assistant centering on the functional characteristics of the IPA. Design/methodology/approach Accordingly, in an attempt to identify factors that will influence the intention to use the intelligent personal assistant, we proposed a research model, together with a corresponding hypothesis, which incorporates the functional characteristics (personalization, anthropomorphism, autonomy, communication ability, contextual offer) and perceived enjoyment of the intelligent personal assistant into a technology acceptance model. To verify the research hypothesis of this research, we have conducted a questionnaire survey with individuals who have used an intelligent personal assistant as target. And with the data collected from 215 copies of the questionnaire survey, we have carried out a path analysis using the PLS structural equation. Findings As a result, it turned out that, of the IPA functional characteristics, personalization had a positive effect on perceived usefulness, autonomy had a positive effect on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Also, communication ability had a positive effect on perceived ease of use and perceived enjoyment, and anthropomorphism and contextual offer had a positive effect on perceived ease of use and perceived enjoyment and turned out to be major factors that increased the use intention of intelligent personal assistant.

  • A separate and distinct interaction with both the actual e-vendor and with its IT web site interface is at the heart of online shopping. Previous research has established, accordingly, that online purchase intention is the product of customer assessments of IT itself, specifically its perceived usefulness and ease-of-use(TAM). Since perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are such a fundamental driver of usage intentions, it is important to understand the determinants of this construct and how their influence changes over the voluntariness towards the usage intention. The reason for voluntariness as a moderating variable is that it had the serious effect to the motivating in the making willingness of the internet shopping-mall usage. A better understanding of the determinants of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use to the usage intention would enable us to design web site interventions that would increase user acceptance and usage of internet shopping-mall. Therefore, the goal of the present research is to extend TAM to include additional key determinants of TAM and to understand how the effects of these determinants change with the voluntariness of the usage intention of the internet shopping-mall.
