Effect of Feeding Prunus mume By-products on Productivity and Blood Composition in Semi-Broiler Chicks (매실 부산물 급여가 준육용계의 생산 능력과 혈액 성상에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this experiment was to investigate the feeding influence of Prunus memu by-products (PMB) on productivity, blood composition, meat quality and intestinal microflora in semi-broiler chicks. Four hundred one day old chicks(Hanhyup 3) were raised in the floor pen with five treatments(0, 0.5, 1.0 2.0 3.0%) of four replicate for ten weeks. Basal diets contained 3,000, 3,100, 3,100, 3,200 kcal/kg ME and 22, 21, 19, 17% CP, respectively. There were no different performance for the first two weeks, but showed significantly different weight gain, feed intake in PMB 2.0, 3.0% addition treatments compared with control from three to five weeks of age. Weight gain of birds fed 2.0% PMB was significantly higher from nine to 10 weeks of age than control(P<0.05). Total weight gain tended to increase in PMB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0% addition treatments. Feed intake also showed increase in PMB 2.0, 3.0% addition treatments, but there were no different feed conversion. Total protein, albumin, cholesterol, neutral fat, glucose was significantly decreased in PMB 0.5% addition treatments compared with control. There were no different physico-chemical characteristics in breast meat. The number of yeast was significantly improved in PMB 3.0% compared with control(P<0.05), but found no difference in number of E. coli between control and PMB treatments. ND titer of birds fed PMB was not statistically different, but tended to decrease as dietary PMB increased. As the result of this experiment, PMB would be available as a feed additives in semi-broiler chicks.

Effect of Dietary Chlorella Supplementation on Growth Performance, Immune Response, and Intestinal Micro Flora Concentration of Broiler Chickens (육계 사료 내 클로렐라의 첨가·급여가 생산성, 장내미생물 및 면역력에 미치는 영향)

  • A study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of feedstuff of Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) to replace of antibiotic in the diets of broiler chickens. A total of 720 1-d-old straight run broiler chicks (Ross ${\times}$ Ross) was randomly assigned into six treatments with four replicate pens (30 birds/replicate pen) for 5-wk. A corn-soy bean meal basal diet was formulated, the treatment groups were negative group (NC, antibiotic-free diet) and 0.1% virginiamycin in as antibiotic growth promoters (PC), 1.0% fresh liquid Chlorella (T1), 1.0% dried Chlorella powder (T2), 1.0% commercial Chlorella product and 1.0% (T3) and commercial Chlorella product 0.5% (T4) were added to the basal diet to form six dietary treatments. No significant differences were found among the treatments for feed intake and feed conversion of broiler chickens during the whole experimental period, but the BW gain was significantly higher (P<0.05) in commercial Chlorella product supplemental groups than the control group (NC and PC groups). Dietary supplementation of Chlorella significantly (P<0.05) increased the plasma IgA, IgM and IgG concentration of chicks compared to NC and PC groups. Supplemental AGPs and commercial chlorella product did not affect the E. coli and Salmonella concentration in the intestinal microflora of broiler chicks; however, the population of Lactobacillus was significantly increased (P<0.05) when birds were fed commercial Chlorella product groups. It is concluded that commercial Chlorella product supplementation could be used as an alternative of antibiotics to promote growth and immune response by increasing the production of lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal microflora of broiler chickens.

Effect of Various Forms of Floor System on Performance of Meat-type Duck and Environments of Duck House (오리사 바닥 형태가 육용오리의 생산성 및 사육환경에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of floor type and heating system on performance, housing environment and health status of ducks reared in three types of duck house (OD : Open floor house-Direct heating system, OF : Open floor house-Floor heating system and LD : Loft type house-Direct heating system). In OF treatment, PVC pipes were installed for heating under concrete floor and covered with litter. In LD treatment, plastic mesh was installed 50 cm above the floor so that duck's droppings can pass through it. Each treatment had four replicates of 25 birds (Cherry Valley duck breed) per pen. There were no significant differences in weight gain and feed intake of ducks for 6 weeks among all treatments. However, feed conversion ratio in LD was significantly higher (p<0.05) than that in OF. No differences were found in carcass charac- teristics, with the exception of abdominal fat weight where OF were higher than the others. Concentrations of $CO_2$ and $NH_3$ gas in OD were higher than those of OF and LD at 3, 4 and 5 weeks. Moisture content in litter of OF was lower than that of OD. In contrast, the amount of dust in the air was higher in OF than in OD. The amount of fuel used for 6 weeks in LD was lower about 21% than that in OD. Some of unusual symptoms were observed in open floor house and loft type house, such as lying, spraddle legged, twisted ankle and legs, wounded sole, or etc. No components of leukocyte and erythrocyte of blood were significantly different among all treatments. The results of this experiment showed that OF and LD systems had no positive effects on performance of meat type commercial duck. However, there were some positive effects of certain house type for the improvement of environmental condition in duck house for hygienic production. In the future, more research on the effect of various facilities and systems for duck house is needed.

The development and current status regard to Sijo-chang時調唱 (시조창(時調唱)의 전개(展開)와 현황(現況))

  • This article focused on the development and current status of Sijo-chang, the Korean classical vocal genre, which is the text as a fixed form of Korean classical poems. Historically, Sijo-chang has originally emerged from Hyangga鄕歌 during Silla period (BC. 57- AD. 935). However, the current Sijo-chang has been developed from the latter of Joseon朝鮮 period(AD. 1392-1910) in 1800s. Since 1800s, Sijo-chang derived from the Gyeong-je Pyeong sijo京制 平時調, which was established in Seoul, was able to accelerate its musical types and regional characteristics among the Korean peninsula. By setting a clear division of two time periods between 1800s and those periods since 1900s to today, this article mainly explains how Sijo-chang has been developed historically. First of all, in order to appraise the musical styles and characteristics of Sijo-chang in 1800s, comparing the current musical types of Sijo-chang and those printed old score books which has its historical musical characteristics during 1800s is necessary. Secondly, this paper concentrated on the transmitted lineages of representative vocalists among the regional-based Sijo-chang from 1900s to today. During those periods, the Sijo-chang has formed its particular regional-based musical characteristics among the Korean peninsula such as Yeong-je嶺制 of Gyeongsang province慶尙道, Naepo-je內浦制 of Chungcheong province忠淸道 and Wan-je完制 of Cheolla province全羅道. Although it was not a type of regional-based Sijo-chang, as a creation with reference based on certain regional types of Sijo-chang in 1960s, this paper introduced the inheritance process of Seogam-je石菴制 which was made by Jung Gyeong-tae鄭坰兌 named Seogam石菴 as his pen name. Since Seogam-je has been singing as the most influential musical types of Sijo-chang through the mainly southern region of Korean peninsula and even in Seoul, it was highly significant to research it. In addition, this paper elaborately highlighted the developments of various Sijo-chang based on its historical performances, studies, and the composed pieces from the early 1900s or the mid-1900s. In conclusion, in order to set a vigorous development of Sijo-chang, this paper raised several concerns among the future of Sijo-Chang and the significance of its traditional value.

Analysis of Nutrient Composition of Baechu Kimchi (Chinese Cabbage Kimchi) with Seafoods (수산물을 첨가한 배추김치의 영양성분 분석)

  • The nutrient composition, including the proximate composition and the mineral, vitamin, amino acid, and free-amino-acid levels, of baechu kimchi (Chinese cabbage kimchi) to which 14 kinds of seafood (flatfish, yellow corvina, sea beam, pollack gizzard shad, ray, gray mullet, skate, hairtail, anchovy, sea squit, pen shell, scallop, small octopus)were added was analyzed. The seafoods were added to salted cabbage at concentration of 10% (w/w) and the prepared seafood baechu Kimchi (BK) was stored at $5^{\circ}C$ for seven days. The levels of moisture (82.09-88.56%), crude lipid (0.31-0.64%), and crude ash (2.70-3.50%) did not differ much among the samples, but the level of crude protein of the BK-with-seafood samples (2.42-5.15%) was greater than that of the control BK (2%), without seafood. The Fe and Ca contents of BK with flatfish showed the highest values (4.1 and 74 mg/100 g, respectively). The vitamin A contents of BK samples with 14 different kinds of seafood were higher than that of the control BK. Moreover, the BK with sea squit had higher vitamin $B_2$ (0.90 mg/100 g) and vitamin C (8.48 mg/100 g) contents among all the BK-with-different-kinds-of-seafood samples. Total amino acids were detected in all BK-with-seafood samples, most of which had high levels of glutamic acid, aspartic acid, proline and alanine. Glutamic acid was the most abundant of all the amino acids. The major free amino acids were hydroxyproline, glutamic acid, alanine, proline, leucine, and valine, of which hydroxyproline was the most abundant. In conclusion, BK with seafood is thought to be a very good source of protein, which is very important from dietary life of humans.

Effects of Dietary Mugwort (Artemisia iwayomogi Kitamura) Powder Supplementation on Growing Performance in Pig (인진쑥(Artemisia iwayomogi Kitamura) 분말 급여가 돼지 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate growth performance in weanling and growing pigs supplemented with mugwort powder as an antibiotic replacement. To examine the effects of antibiotic replacement, 0 (control, with and without antibiotics), 1, and 1.5% mugwort powder was supplemented into the basal diet. Pigs raised with a diet of 1.0% mugwort powder had improved average daily gain and feed conversion rate during 23~37 d feeding. During 40~59 and 63~97 d feeding periods, there were no differences between average daily gain in pigs fed no antibiotics and those given a 1% mugwort powder diet, whereas feed conversion rate of pigs given a 1.5% mugwort powder diet and average daily gain of pigs fed no antibiotics were lower than those of any other diet group. In conclusion, this study suggests that the 1.0% supplementation of mugwort in place of antibiotics is an invaluable feed additive as a physiologically activated material.

Effects of Spent Composts of Se-Enriched Mushrooms on Carcass Characteristics, Plasma GSH-Px Activity, and Se Deposition in Finishing Hanwoo Steers (셀레늄급원으로 셀레늄강화버섯 폐배지의 급여가 거세한우의 도체특성, 혈중 GSH-Px활성 및 조직내 셀레늄축적에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine effects of spent composts of Se-enriched mushrooms (Se-SMC) as the dietary selenium source on carcass characteristics, plasma glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) activity and Se deposition in finishing Hanwoo steers. In combination with both Se-SMC and normal SMC, experimental treatment diets were formulated to contain 0.1, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 ppm of Se on a dry matter basis. A total of 20 finishing Hanwoo steers (average BW = 613 kg, average age = 20 to 24 mo) were allotted to treatments in four groups of five steers per pen for 12 wk preceding slaughter. While the experiment is employed, blood samples were taken to analyze Se concentration and GSH-Px activity, and muscle and liver samples were collected for analyses of Se contents in their tissues after slaughter. DMl and BW gain were not affected by dietary Se level and any toxic symptoms in treatments with a higher level of Se were not observed. No differences were noted for carcass characteristics. Se concentration in whole blood and plasma GSH-Px activity were linearly increased with the increasing level of dietary Se (P < 0.01). Se content in the hind leg for Se-SMC supplemented groups significantly increased (P < 0.05) upon dietary Se level, with 0.27, 0.37, 0.40 and 0.46 !1g1g dry, respectively. However, Se content in the loin was not affected by dietary Se levels. Se content in the liver was significantly increased(P < 0.05) as dietary Se increased, with 0.79, 1.40, 2.39 and 3.10 !1g1g dry, respectively. These results suggested that Se in the Se-SMC was highly bioavailable, and Se-SMC might be used not only as an inexpensive way of providing Se for ruminants but also as another way of producing Se-fortified beef.

Studies on the Change of Meat Productivies by Season and Sex in Broiler Chickens 2. Effects of season and sex on meat productivity (육용계에 었어서 계절 및 성별 산육능력변화에 관한 연구 2. 계절과 성별간의 상호작용이 산육능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Data are presented concerning the effect of different seasons and sexes during the growing period on broiler performance. Total 38, 451 broiler chickens were raised in spring summer and winter and they were marketed at 6 or 7 weeks of age. Birds were alloted to 118 groups (240∼360 birds per pen) and weighted at termination in order to determine variation in several economic traits between the sex groups. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The rate of livability of the females were higher than that of the males in all seasons (P<0.01). 2. Body weights of males were heavier than that of females by 17.4% at 6 wks, and 19.1% at 7 wks of age and by 18.0∼19.6% ,17.6∼18.4% , and 19.6∼19.3% in spring, summer, and winter, respectively (P<0.01). 3. Males consumed more feed than females by 13.3∼135% . And same trends was noted by season : 11.7∼13,5% in spring 175∼15.0% in summer, and 11.5∼13.0% in winter. 4. Peed requirement of the females was less than that of the males : by 5.0∼7.1%, 5.9∼1.0% , and 5.4∼5.5% in spring, summer, and winter, respectively (P< 0,01). 5. The correlation coefficients between body weight and feed intake in spring were 0.81∼0.87 in males, and 0.84∼0.88 in females and those between body weight and feed requirements were ∼052∼0.51 in males, and -0.17∼-0.45.45 in females. 6. In summer the correlation coefficients between livability and body weight were -0.1∼-0.37 in males, and -0.36∼-0.51 in females, those between body weight and feed intake were 0.66∼0.77 in males, and 0.5∼0.82 in females, and those between body weight and feed requirement were -0.42∼-022 in males, and 0.24∼-0.001 in females. 7. In winter the correlation coefficients between livability and body weight were -0.02∼0.02 in males, -0.18∼-0.19 in females, those between body weight and feed requirements were -0.08∼02 in males, and 0.04∼0.09 in females.

Effects of Repeated High Ambient Temperature on Performance in Broilers Heat-Conditioned at an Early Age (반복적인 고온환경이 사전고온 적응한 육계의 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • Heat conditioning at an early age has been known to help chickens cope with heat stress later in life. The present study was conducted to determine the effects of heat conditioning at 5 days of age in broilers repeatedly exposed to high ambient temperature later in life. A total of 256 day-old Arbor Acre boiler chicks were housed in two identical rooms with a 23-h light/1-h dark cycle and provided with feed and water ad libitum. At 5 days of age, the birds in one room were exposed to $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, while those in the other room served as controls. On day 21, half of the birds in each room were moved into the other room so that each room contained both control and heat-conditioned birds. After a 7-day adaptation period, the birds in one room were exposed to high ambient temperature ($21^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}31^{\circ}C$) for 3 days, whereas those in the other room were kept at normal temperature. The same 3-day exposure to high ambient temperature was repeated two weeks later. Hence, there were four treatment groups (CON+CON: control+control; CON+HS: control+high ambient temperature; HC+CON: heat conditioning+control; and HC+HS: heat conditioning+high ambient temperature). Repeated heat stress resulted in decreased feed intake, water intake, body weight gain, and spleen weight (p<0.05) and increased rectal temperature (p<0.05), mortality, and plasma corticosterone concentrations. The relative weight of the spleen was increased in the heat-conditioned group (p<0.05). Plasma biochemicals were also influenced by high temperature. Thus, no beneficial effects of heat conditioning at an early age were detected in broilers repeatedly exposed to high ambient temperature later in life.

Study on the Ventilation System Applicability of High-rise Hog Building for Growing-fattening (고상식 육성비육돈사에 적합한 환기시스템에 관한 연구)

  • The goal of this study was to develop a suitable ventilation system for high-rise hog building (HRHB) for growing-fattening with combined slatted floor pen in second story and in situ manure management system in Korea. The HRHB was constructed as 29m long, 9m wide and 7.6m high for outer dimension with an indoor height of 3.1m and 2.4 for lower and upper floor, respectively. Ventilation systems for each treatment were installed in separated rooms of HRHB. The ventilation types installed in each room were following 3 types: ventilation type 1 (V1), where air was pulled through a circular duct inlet and exhausted by fans; ventilation type 2 (V2), where air was pulled through eave inlet (side ceiling inlet) and exhausted by fans; and ventilation type 3 (V3), where air was pulled through baffled ceiling inlet and exhausted by fans. For each ventilation system, investigated air velocity under minimum, medium and maximum ventilation ratio and air flow pattern inside. The results were as follows; For air flow pattern from top to bottom, V1 showed a homogeneous vertical type, V2 showed a bilateral symmetry type and V3 showed an vertical umbrella type. Under minimum ventilation ratio, air velocity in upper floor (80cm above the slated floor) was similar for V1, V2, and V3. Under maximum ventilation ratio, air velocity in upper floor was undeviating for V1 (0.10~0.26m/s) and varied for V2 (0.12~0.63m/s) while those for V3 was relatively slow and less varied (0.07~0.15m/s). In conclusion, Duct inlet type (V1) can be applied to the development of a new HRHB with additional evaluations such as field test hog feeding.
