Factors affecting foreign language learning task are diverse in nature due to the different social and cultural backgrounds so that learners have to somehow use strategies and expressions to adjust diverse factors to their learning environments. The main purpose of this paper is to show how important NNS vs. NNs interaction through CCDL can be in their enhancement of English proficiency by giving examples from their chatting conversation(written conversation) data collected for over two semesters. Chatting as a means of synchronous communication interaction between students from two different cultural backgrounds can act as a predictor of foreign language achievement. Chatting and Telemeet activities have their own advantages in enhancing communicative competence when learning English. By engaging in these synchronous communication activities learners of English from different cultural backgrounds can acquire unique strategies and expressions from which they learn from each other. In short, this study advocates the importance of strategies and patterns foreign language learners can acquire from interaction among culturally different peer groups.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the construct validity of the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale on the parent version. The participants of this study were 231 children in the Seoul and Gyeonggi provincial areas. The instruments included the 32-item exploratory PIPPS (Choi & Shin, 2008), and the Preschool Behavior Questionnaire (PBQ; Park, 1992). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Pearson's r and Cronbach ${\alpha}$. The results were as follows. First, the PIPPPS on the parent version was validated with supporting three factors: Play Disruption, Play Disconnection and Play Interaction with 30 items. The sub-factors of the PIPPS were related with those of the PBQ as criterion measurements. The reliability coefficients of the sub-factors of the PIPPS were ranged from .78 to .82.
This study investigated the difference between infant verbal and nonverbal interactions with a partner (teacher or peer). The subjects were 20 two-year-old infants 00 boys and 10 girls, mean age 31.3 months). Verbal and nonverbal interactions were videotaped during one hour of indoor free play per child in the Center. In verbal interaction, (1) boys spoke to themselves more than girls did, and (2) girls gave orders (imperatives, requests, and prohibitions) to peers and teachers more than boys did. In non-verbal interactions, (1) girls nodded to teachers more than boys did, (2) boys came closer to peers more than girls did, and (3) girls refused by gestures to peers more than boys did. In conclusion, the majority of the boys could be classified as peer-oriented and physically active in their interactions.
The purpose of this study is to design and apply YouTube ecosystem using digital curation to improve the interaction of untact class. The untact digital instructional model for building the YouTube ecosystem is composed of four modules: domain, tutor, student, and interface, and the role of each module is described. As an application example, the team project "Development and Operation of Instructional Assistant YouTube" is performed in the Introduction to Media Software class. The learning experience is described in terms of professor, peer tutors, and learners, and learning outcomes are presented through surveys.
Statistical thinking has a broad definition but focuses on the context of regression modelling in the present study. To foster students' statistical thinking within the context, teaching should no longer be seen as transfer of knowledge from teacher to students but as a process of engaging with learning activities in which they develop ownership of knowledge. This study aims at collaborative learning contexts; students were divided into small groups in order to increase opportunities for peer collaboration. Each group of students was asked to do a regression project after class. Through doing the project, they learnt to organize and connect previously accrued piecemeal statistical knowledge in an integrated manner. They could also clarify misunderstandings and solve problems through verbal exchanges among themselves. They gave a clear and lucid account of the model they had built and showed collaborative interactions when presenting their projects in front of class. A survey was conducted to solicit their feedback on how peer collaboration would facilitate learning of statistics. Almost all students found their interaction with their peers productive; they focused on the development of statistical thinking with concerted effort.
In this study, we developed an efficient in-service teachers training program, which could help the professional development of science gifted teachers. The characteristic feature of this in-service training program was to put great emphasis on interaction between fellow teachers. With this program, teachers could share their experiences and informations about gifted education. The program consisted of 4 interaction modules: 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning', 'the module of interaction in the small group', 'the module of interaction at the plan of application', 'the module of interaction at the practical exercise'. In this study, we analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. We analyzed the interaction between science gifted education teachers in 'the module of interaction at the pre-planning'. Each teachers got 17.2 correction opinions from peer teachers. They accepted 79.2% opinions among them and refused the other opinions (20.8% opinions). In the analysis of 'program process', the interactions for the improvement about 'the acquirements of knowledge and function' step were 41.9% and the interactions for the improvement about 'plan and exploration' step were 30.5%. In the analysis of 'program domain', the interactions about 'method of teaching and learning' were 41.9%. The interactions about 'program step' were 28.6% and the interactions about 'learning contentsh were 24.8%. With these results, we discussed the features of interaction between science gifted education teachers and proposed the improvement of in-service training program for elementary science gifted teachers.
The purpose of the study was to analyze the effects of both young children's gender and temperament and their teachers' teaching efficacy and teacher-child interactions on peer play interactions. For this purpose, the data from the 2012 Panel Study on Korean Children were analyzed using analyses of variances and correlation co-efficiencies. In addition, analyses of hierarchical regression, with young children's temperament and teacher-related factors (teaching efficacy and teacher-child interactions) as the independent variables and three sub-factors of peer play interactions (play interaction, play disruption, play disconnection) as the dependent variables, were conducted. The results showed that young children's temperament, teacher efficacy, teacher-child interactions, and peer play interactions differed by gender and significantly correlated. Young children's temperament and teacher-child interactions significantly affected young children's peer play interactions, and the effect of teacher-child interactions was larger than the effect of temperament by 2~2.5 times. The results proved the importance of early childhood teachers' roles in the development of young children's peer interactions with consideration of differences based on children's gender and temperament. With the results given, implications and suggestions for further research were discussed.
The present study aimed at investigating the relations between the amount of child care experienced in the first three years of life and socioemotional development of children at age 4 indicated by problem behaviors and peer competence. Using the longitudinal data of the Panel Study of Korean Children(PSKC), the information of 1,699 children were analyzed. The results indicated that any child care experience, hours in child care, full-time child care and early entry to child care were significantly related to children's externalizing behavior problem and play disruption at age 4. Some significant relations were detected between child care experience and better peer competence as well. Interestingly, the patterns of relations were different for boys and girls. Being in child care, a greater amount of child care and early entry to child care tended to be related to externalizing problem behaviors of boys and whereas they were more related to peer competence of girls indicated by play interaction, play disruption and play disconnection. Child care hours at age 3 were relative stronger predictors of children's development compared to those at age 1 or at age 2. The findings imply that the amount of child care during the first 3 years of life does not have strong harmful effects on preschoolers' socioemotional development and that there are differences in the effects of child care on boys and girls.
Small Group Collaborative Instruction in school settings has been endorsed by many educational experts over the years. Some studies found that learners greatly benefit from one another through communication and interaction with their peers. These studies previously indicated improvement of a learner‘s academic ability as well as the application of the affective domain when using this type of instruction. Lower-level students with limited mathematical abilities improved their problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills when tasked to work with other learners. On the other hand, the effectiveness of this process was questioned to be less evident with higher-level performers. Therefore, this study was designed to observe the efficacy of Small Group Collaborative Instruction on higher-level students and to explore their learning process as they interact with and teach lower-level students. This study observed that higher-level students use high-level mathematical thinking skills when helping lower-level students, and they improved problem-solving ability as well as communication skills.

In this study, the effects of reciprocal peer tutoring strategy on science achievement, science learning motivation, and self-esteem were investigated. Three classes of eighth graders (N=94) at a coed middle school were sampled for the study. They were divided into the comparison group, the cooperative learning (CL) group, and the reciprocal peer tutoring (RPT) group. Students were taught about the separation of mixtures for 13 class hours. Mid-term science examination scores were used as a blocking variable. The two-way ANCOVA results revealed that there were no significant differences among the three groups in the science achievement test, although the scores of the RPT group were higher than those of the comparison group. In all the subtests of the science learning motivation questionnaire, the scores of the RPT group were significantly higher than those of the comparison group. The scores of the RPT group were significantly higher than those of the other groups especially in the confidence part of the science learning motivation questionnaire. In the self-esteem test, the low achievers in the RPT group scored significantly higher than those in the CL group.
