This research has three purposes: The first purpose is to verify whether SGRs(Student-Generated Rubrics) are effective for learner achievement in higher education or not. The second one is to analyze the agreements between an instructor's evaluations and peer group assessments with SGRs in real classroom situation. The final purpose is to propose the possibility of students' more objective self-evaluation with the use of SGRs. It appears that rubrics are effective tools to improve learner achievement in adult education and to promote the agreement between the instructor's and peer's evaluations, even though learners do not develop SGRs. In addition, this research has demonstrated that most students are not very accurate self-assessors, and they often overestimate themselves. This study can be helpful for novice instructors, especially for those who try to assess their students more fairly, to develop the SGRs as an evaluation tool appropriate for their own situation, and to give more reliable feedback to students.
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between young children's play characteristics, interactive peer play and Preschool children's behavior. The subjects of this consisted of 235 3- to 5-year-old children resident in Gyeonggi Province. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS statistical software. The results of this study were as follows : First, there was a significant relationship between play characteristics, interactive peer play and Preschool children's behavior. Second, in terms of the degree of play characteristics in evidence, interactive peer play appears to be a reliable predictor of young children's behavior.
The recent successes of systems like Google, Wikipedia and InnoCentive suggest that the time is now ripe for more such systems. Thus, we want to explore these systems and exploit them from a viewpoint of social psychology prior to technological progress. First of all, we examine the difference between 'wisdom of crowds' and 'crowd psychology'. There are two classes, which are for senior management major students. Conditions of two are same, except a class time. Forty five students in one class are tested for this experiment. They form a group with five people and are divided into 9 groups. In a case of a morning class, peer-to-peer evaluations are given to individuals in a class when a group presentation for a final project is given. On the other hand, in a case of afternoon class, peer-to-peer evaluations are given to each group in a class. The result is quite fruitful. The first is that an expert's evaluation for a project agrees with students, who are beginners in this field in the degree of more than 95%. However, in the case of afternoon class, students' group evaluation turns out to agree with an expert's one less than 53%. Morning class experiment result proves the truth of collective intelligence again. It tunrs out independent and confidential opinions are more cost effective and give right answers to questions than group opinions.
Purpose This study aims to develop classification models using a decision tree algorithm to identify core keywords and rules influencing online consumer review evaluations for the robot vacuum cleaner on Amazon.com. The difference from previous studies is that we analyze core keywords that affect the evaluation results by dividing the subjects that evaluate online consumer reviews into self-evaluation (star ratings) and peer evaluation (helpfulness votes). We investigate whether the core keywords influencing star ratings and helpfulness votes vary across different products and whether there is a similarity in the core keywords related to star ratings or helpfulness votes across all products. Design/methodology/approach We used random under-sampling to balance the dataset. We progressively removed independent variables based on decreasing importance through backwards elimination to evaluate the classification model's performance. As a result, we identified classification models that best predict star ratings and helpfulness votes for each product's online consumer reviews. Findings We have identified that the core keywords influencing self-evaluation and peer evaluation vary across different products, and even for the same model or features, the core keywords are not consistent. Therefore, companies' producers and marketing managers need to analyze the core keywords of each product to highlight the advantages and prepare customized strategies that compensate for the shortcomings.
Objectives: There is no systematic review on economic evaluations of telemedicine in Japan, despite over 1000 trials implemented. Our systematic review aims to examine whether Japan's telemedicine is cost-saving or cost-effective, examine the methodological rigorousness of the economic evaluations, and discuss future studies needed to improve telemedicine's financial sustainability. Methods: We searched five databases, including two Japanese databases, to find peer-reviewed articles published between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2014 in English and Japanese that performed economic evaluations of Japan's telemedicine programs. The methodological rigorousness of the economic analyses was assessed with a well-established checklist. We calculated the benefit-to-cost ratio (BCR) when a reviewed study reported related data but did not report the BCR. All cost values were adjusted to 2014 US dollars. Results: Among the 17 articles identified, six studies reported on settings connecting physicians for specialist consultations, and eleven studies on settings connecting healthcare providers and patients at home. There are three cost-benefit analyses and three cost-minimization analyses. The remaining studies measured the benefit of telemedicine only, using medical expenditure saved or users' willingness-to-pay. There was substantial diversity in the methodological rigorousness. Studies on teledermatology and teleradiology indicated a favorable level of economic efficiency. Studies on telehomecare gave mixed results. One cost-benefit analysis on telehomecare indicated a low economic efficiency, partly due to public subsidy rules, e.g., a too short budget period. Conclusions: Overall, telemedicine programs in Japan were indicated to have a favorable level of economic efficiency. However, the scarcity of the economic literature indicates the need for further rigorous economic evaluation studies.
The premise underpinning this research is that cognitive evaluation is the starting point of children's emotional experience. It then went on to investigate how parents' person-oriented guidance affects children's emotional intelligence. Additionally, children's ego-resilience was analyzed as a variable that affects children's emotional intelligence and as a mediator between parents' person-oriented guidance and children's emotional intelligence. A purposive sampling was conducted in 4 elementary schools in metropolitan areas and made use of 466 students in 4th and 5th grade as research subjects. The results are summarized as follows:firstly, the more frequently parents used person-oriented guidance, the more children exhibited higher levels of ego-resilience and emotional intelligence. Secondly, vitality, peer relations, optimism, curiosity, emotional regulation, maternal person-oriented guidance were found to affect emotional intelligence in the order of relative significance of that influence. Thirdly, children's ego-resilience was found to intermediate parents' person-oriented guidance and children's emotional intelligence. In conclusion, individual children's evaluations of parental verbal stimuli was found to influence children's emotional intelligence, especially more significantly through the mediation of children's ego-resilience.
This study views the people's propensity to rely on others' evaluations as the interpersonal trust online despite a lack of personal interactions. Therefore, this study explores the underlying dimensions of interpersonal trust and examines how interpersonal trust influences trust in the e-tailer and behavioral intent. Data of 395 adults who had purchased apparel goods online were collected nationwide using an online questionnaire. Exploratory and confirmative factor analysis identified five underlying constructs of interpersonal trust online such as peer identification, ability, integrity, shared lifegoals, and benevolence. A structural equation modeling test was conducted to examine the relationships between interpersonal trust, trust in the e-tailer, and behavioral intent. Interpersonal trust influenced on trust in the e-tailer, specifically on trust in the e-tailer's competence which subsequently increased a customer's behavioral intent such as attitude toward the e-tailer and shopping intention. Although no direct effect of interpersonal trust on the behavioral intent was found, interestingly, the effects of the interpersonal trust on the e-tailer trust which derived the behavioral intent to purchase. This result suggests that marketers devise a more effective system and environment that can encourage the interpersonal trust between customers to build a strong trust in e-tailers. It also provides a theoretical framework of online trust in the way of classifying interpersonal trust and trust in e-tailers.
Energy-based seismic design of structures has gradually become prominent in today's structural engineering investigations because of being more rational and reliable when it is compared to traditional force-based and displacement-based methods. Energy-based approaches have widely taken place in many previous studies and investigations and undoubtedly, they are going to play more important role in future seismic design codes, too. This paper aims to compute the maximum earthquake energy input to elastic single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems for selected real ground motion records. A data set containing 100 real ground motion records which have the same site soil profiles has been selected from Pacific Earthquake Research (PEER) database. Response time history (RTH) analyses have been conducted for elastic SDOF systems having a constant damping ratio and natural periods of 0.1 s to 3.0 s. Totally 3000 RTH analyses have been performed and the maximum mass normalized earthquake input energy values for all records have been computed. Previous researchers' approaches have been compared to the results of RTH analyses and an approach which considers the pseudo-spectral velocity with Arias Intensity has been proposed. Graphs of the maximum earthquake input energy versus the maximum pseudo-spectral velocity have been obtained. The results show that there is a good agreement between the maximum input energy demands of RTH analysis and the other approaches and the maximum earthquake input energy is a relatively stable response parameter to be used for further seismic design and evaluations.
