  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) nurses and the mothers of hospitalized children perceived their partnership and identify the detailed differences in the common domains of partnership between them. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design with semi-structured and open-ended interviews was used. Interviews with mothers of hospitalized children and nurses in the PICU were conducted at a national university hospital in South Korea. Results: Five integrated categories were identified concerning nurses' and mothers' perceptions of partnership. Five common domains were derived by merging the partnership categories perceived by each PICU mother and nurse: expectation of trust, sharing and communication, participation in care, equality in the relationship, and coordination of opinion However, there were significant differences in the composition of the categories of these common domains. Conclusion: These results may facilitate more effective partnerships between parents and PICU nurses. Efforts should be taken to promote the formation of trust between nurses and parents and create an environment that is conductive to regular open communication in particular, steps should be taken to reduce gaps in awareness concerning this partnership and information sharing, nursing methods, and decision-making.

  • This descriptive convergence research is to get basic data for educational program by investigating awareness on pediatric nurses and nursing prospects after pediatric clinical practicum among 143 junior nursing students. Using SPSS/Win 21.0, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression were carried out. The awareness of subjects on pediatric nurses was $4.09{\pm}0.61$ on a scale of 5, which was higher than the traditional and social ones, and nursing prospects' was $3.31{\pm}0.65$ on a scale of 5. There're significant differences partially in awareness on pediatric nurses according to sex, age, satisfaction in nursing and practium hospitals. Awareness on nursing prospects of those who had average satisfaction in nursing was higher than others(p<.002). There was a positive correlation between subvaribles of awareness on pediatric nurses and nursing prospects(r=.287~.510, p<.01), Traditional and social awareness were the significant factors on nursing prospects in hierarchical multiple regression, and the explannation rate was 29.2%(p<.001). It's needed to raise awareness on nursing prospects by improving traditional and social awareness on pediatric nurses.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to provide basic data for developing interventions to relieve the end-of-life care stress experienced by pediatric nurses by examining the relationships of end-of-life care stress with compassionate competence and attitudes toward end-of-life care. Methods: Data were collected via a survey that was conducted from September 10 to September 30, 2018 and administered to 113 nurses who had worked for more than 6 months in a pediatric unit at a tertiary hospital in Seoul, South Korea. The data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation analysis were conducted using SPSS version 25.0. Results: End-of-life care stress among pediatric nurses had a weak positive correlation (r=0.216, P<0.05) with compassionate competence and had no significant correlation with attitudes toward end-of-life care. Among the sub-factors of end-of-life care stress, psychological difficulties had a weak positive correlation with sensitivity (r=0.309, P<0.01) and communication (r=0.230, P<0.05), which are aspects of compassionate competence. Lack of knowledge about end-of-life care had a weak positive correlation with communication (r=0.209, P<0.05) as an aspect of compassionate competence. Conclusion: To improve the quality of end-of-life care provided by pediatric nurses, it is necessary to improve their compassionate competence and reduce their end-of-life care stress by developing education and support programs tailored to the characteristics of children and specific communication methods.

Method: Using NIC(3rd revision), the data were collected from 241 staff nurses working in 6 general hospitals. Result: Fourteen interventions were performed at least once a day. The physiological: basic and complex domain was most frequently performed. The most frequently performed intervention was medication: IV, and followed by medication-related interventions such as medication: IM, analgesic administration, IV therapy, and IV insertion. Fifty-five interventions were rarely performed. Most of them were in the family domain. ICU nurses performed interventions most often, while OBGY-pediatric units nurses performed them least. The ICU nurses performed the physiological: basic and complex, and the safety domain more often than medical and OBGY-pediatric units nurses. For the OBGY-pediatric units, the nurses were performed rarely the family domain, especially child bearing and rearing care. Conclusion: This survey has helped to figure out the nursing care in small-medium sized hospitals. These findings will help in building and improving of the standardized interventions for small-medium sized hospitals in located local provinces.

It comprised 143 items in 16 domains of PENP. Results: The most frequent nursing practice was the domain of 'nursing records and environmental management' and the least frequent practice was the 'research and consulting' domain. The nursing care domain perceived to be most important by nurses was 'specialized intensive nursing care'. The nursing care domain with the highest level of nursing competence was 'hygiene care', and the domain with the least level of nursing competence was the 'research and consulting'. Conclusion: These results will be utilized as basic data for future pediatric emergency nursing education initiatives and for establishing priorities of nursing policy to improve health care for children admitted to the emergency department.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationships among emotional labor, grit, and job satisfaction of pediatric nurses and factors affecting job satisfaction. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 137 pediatric nurses working in a general hospital in Seoul. Data were collected from January 1, 2022 to January 31. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN version 28.0.1.1. Results: The mean score of job satisfaction was 3.63±0.43 (out of 5), emotional labor was 3.70±0.39 (out of 5), and grit was 2.90±0.30 (out of 4). Job satisfaction had positively correlated with emotional labor (r=.27, p=.002) and grit (r=.65, p<.001). The regression analyses showed subcategories of grit had a significant influence on job satisfaction. The factors significantly affecting job satisfaction were persistence to achieve long-term goals (β=.39, p<.001), patient-oriented intrinsic motivation (β=.30, p<.001), and passion to become a nursing professional (β=.21, p=.004). Conclusion: These results suggested a need to increase grit for improving the job satisfaction. Furthermore, it would be necessary to develop a diverse program to increase job satisfaction for pediatric nurses by improving grit.

  • The purpose of this descriptive research conducted among 125 pediatric nurses was to get basic data for nursing educational program on peripheral intravenous catheterization. The collected data using Protocol of Pediatric Peripheral Intravenous Infusion of Choi et. al.(2016) and Core Basic Nursing skills & Protocol ; Intravenous Infusion of Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education(2017) were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Nursing performance of pediatric nurses was the lowest in education, and the highest in side effect management. There were significant differences in subarea of nursing performance according to general characteristics. There was a positive correlation between education and nursing performance(r=.486, p<.001), and factors influencing nursing performance were education(${\beta}=.472$), working department(${\beta}=.216$) and marital status(${\beta}=.169$)(adj $R^2=0.314$, p<.001). These results can be used as basic data on nursing educational program on peripheral intravenous catheterization for pediatric nurses after repeated study by expanding the number of subjects.
