Residual fatty acid of the basic material[Backgol] for reinforcement used on the edges of the lacquer ware inlaid box of Chosŏn Dynasty was analyzed. The result showed that it contained considerable amount of cholesterol. So it was confirmed to be animal material. Gas chromatography showed that its fatty acid composition is similar to that of sharkskin. On the basis of this analysis results, the damaged area of the object was restored by using sharkskin as a material for reinforcement.

China is one of the countries in which flood occurs most frequently in the world and with the current economic growth; flood disaster causes more and more economic losses. Chinese government pays more attention to flood monitoring and assessment by space technology. Since1983, NOAA(AVHRR), Landsat-TM, LANDSAT-ETM+, JERS-1, SPOT, ERS-2, Radarsat-1, CBERS-1, Envisat have been used for flood monitoring and assessment. Due to the bad weather conditions during flood, microwave remote sensing is the major tools for flood monitoring. Envisat is one of the best satellite with powerful SAR. Its application for flood monitoring has been studied and its near real time(NRT) application can be realized on the basis of real-time delivery of image. During the 2005, 2006 and 2007 flood seasons, over the 31 NRT flood monitoring based on Envisat, had been carried out in Yangtze, Songua, Huaihe, pearl river basin. The result shows that Envisat SAR is very useful data source for flood disaster monitoring and assessment.

Apatient with multiple dissecting aneurysms of a posterior inferior cerebellar artery trunk who presented with SAH is reported. A 58-year-old woman presented with sudden occipital headache, dizziness and vomiting. The intial vertebral angiography revealed a suspicious pearl and string sign at the proximal posterior inferior cerebellar artery(PICA) segment. After 2 weeks, follow up angiography showed a progression of the proximal PICA dissection and newly developed dissecting aneurysm of the distal PICA segment. A far lateral suboccipital transcondylar appoach confirmed two dissecting aneurysms at distant sites of the PICA trunk. The dissection segments were wrapped with muslin wrap, which preserved the flow through the PICA and brain stem perforators. The angiographys at 3 weeks and 6 months after operation revealed serial disappearance of the dissecting aneurysms which is distal to proximal. The diagnosis, course and treatment of the dissecting aneurysms of the PICA are discussed with literature review.

The increase of wet web solid content after wet press and dry compressive strength were observed in lab study by judicious application of wood flour and starch for the old corrugated container (OCC). Pearl starch was better than cationic starch in strength development, but cationic starch was better for drainage. Application of vacuum on the mixed solution of wood flour and starch helped strength development further without loss of other properties. The effect of wood flour addition on wet web solid content improved as the wet pressing pressure increased. The use of wood flour and starch mixture improved wet web solid contents further.

This paper defines online search strategy as a global approach to the resolution of online searching. Five search strategy models including Brief Search. Building Blocks Strategies. Successive Facet Strategies, Successive Fractions Approach, and Citation Pearl Growing, are critically reviewed. Applicability and adaptability of each strategy are examined in the real concrete online searching environment.

Electrofusion of cabbage protoplasts was performed with a developed equipment which consists of a parallel wire electrode, a AC field generator, and a pulse generator. Exposure of protoplasts to an alternating current field of 450 KHz causes attraction to each other which leads to chains of protoplasts extending from the electrode. Intra-specific protoplast fusion was effectively induced within the pearl chains by the additional application of a single high-intensity DC square wave pulse of 1 KV/cm for 1-3 msec. To improve the performance, micro fusion electrode fabricated from the semiconductor technology and microcontroller based field an, d pulse generator was proposed. The viability of protoplasts after an application of electric field at optimum condition was reduced by only 5 % compared with that of pre-application. A prototype of fusion electrode, which consists of insulator-structure, was successfully fabricated by using photosensitive polyimide.

This study examined individual differences in navigating in hyperspace learning environment where a minimum structure is provided. Using a hypercard stack called "Pearl Harbor", Field Dependent people used guidance more often than those in Field Indepedent; FI achieved scored higher at the end of the study; and FI people had some type of pattern showing from them audit trail when FD people did not show any trail of patterns. Also people with higher visual thinking scores achieved higher scores in hyperspace environment.

The taxonomic research based on extensive investigations and specimen collections throughout all varieties of freshwater and marine habitats of Chinese waters, including mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which involved accounting the vast number of collected specimens, data and literature (both within and outside China) were carried out over the last 40 years. There are totally 361 recorded species of gobioid fishes belonging to 113 genera, 5 subfamilies, and 9 families. This gobioid fauna of China comprises 16.2% of 2211 known living gobioid species of the world. This report represents a summary of previous researches on the suborder Gobioidei. A recently diagnosed subfamily, Polyspondylogobiinae, were assigned from the type genus and type species: Polyspondylogobius sinensis Kimura & Wu, 1994 which collected around the Pearl River Delta with high extremity of vertebral count up to 52-54. The undated comprehensive checklist of gobioid fishes in China will be provided in this paper.

A preliminary in vitro acid neutralizing capacity test of twelve traditional Ayurvedic antacids were performed in this study. Five traditional preparations of ash of conch shell, ash of oyster, ash of pearl, limestone, and ash of cowrie showed high acid neutralizing capacity similar to standard antacid combination of $Al(OH)_3\;and\;Mg(OH)_2$. Among these the ash of conch shell found the highest acid neutralizing capacity. The ash of tamarind and ash of Achyranthus aspera showed moderate acid neutralizing capacity. The acid neutralizing capacity of red ochre; ash of iron; mixture of niter, alum and ammonium chloride; saltpeter; and ash of mica found below the USP 23 limit.

The Wooro cave speleothem displays comparatively very less developed characteristics due to its unactive fluviation, less soluable carbonate rocks, 3nd disconnected short voids. The Weoro cave consists of stalactite, stalagmite, flowstone, rimstone, and moonmilk, however, it is not exhibite soda straw, cave pearl, pisolites, curtain, drapery, cave flower, anthodite, cave coral, helictite. heligmite, boxwork, pendent and, cemented shield. The main cause of the underdevelopment speleothem of the Wooro cave probably less peneturated waters or less calcite compostion of the carbonate rocks.
