  • It is very difficult to detect irradiated South Sea cultured pearls (SSCPs) at a low dose by gemological methods (e.g. optical transmission method, microscopic examination, UV fluorescence reaction, and so on). In this study, however, it was possible to distinguish between irradiated SSCPs from un-irradiated SSCPs by ESR analysis. We have analyzed the pearl nacre and nucleus by separating them for the purposed of providing information about the change of $CO^-_2$ radical as growing absorbed doses. And it was found out that the signal of $CO^-_2$ radical of the nacre is more distinct than the nucleus.

  • Renewable energy or green energy is a hot issue in theses days. Since wind resource can be endlessly supplied by nature, researchers and common people are interested in study how to use that resource at home or company. Especially, many architects have tried to integrate wind power generator for a part of building. So in this paper, three buildings installed wind power turbine are targed to CFD analysis and these buildings are Bahrain trade center, Discovery tower, and Pearl river tower. Bahrain trade center is the first building installed real wind turbine, Discovery tower is constructing at Texas, and Pearl river tower is designed and proved by china researchers. These buildings have very different type of wind power turbine and each turbine has different conditions f3r best power generation. Therefor this paper will focus on characteristic shape of buildings, wind power turbine type, and expected purpose of construction. Moreover, CFD analysis will show wind flow pattern and wind speed while wind is passing through wind turbine of three tall buildings. CFD analysis for three buildings make comparison the wind flow patterns with experimental result.

  • The wind-driven doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) is currently under pressure to be more grid-compatible. The main concern is the fault ride-through (FRT) requirement to keep the generator connected to the grid during faults. In response to this, the paper introduces a novel model and new control scheme for the DFIG. The model provides a means of direct stator power control and considers the stator transients. On the basis of the derived model, a robust linear quadratic (LQ) controller is synthesized. The control law has proportional and integral actions and takes account of one sample delay in the input owing to the microprocessor's execution time. Further, the influence of the grid voltage imperfection is mitigated using frequency shaped cost functional method. Compensation of the rotor current pulsations is proposed to improve the FRT capability as well as the generator performance under grid voltage unbalance. As a consequence, the control system can achieve i) fast direct power control without instability risk, ii) alleviation of the problems associated with the DFIG operation under unbalanced grid voltage, and iii) high probability of successful grid FRT. The effectiveness of the proposed solution is confirmed through simulation studies on 2MW DFIG.

  • The objectives of this research were to find out factor of image perception about women's accessories, to test differences in image evaluation according to materials and forms, and to investigate differences in image evaluation according to total stimuli. The results of this study were as follows. First, the accessory image factor derived four categories: attractiveness, prettiness, gorgeousness, and soft. Second, in two dependent variables, material and form had no significant interaction effects on attractiveness, prettiness, gorgeousness, and soft. In main effect, there was a significant difference of attractiveness, prettiness, and gorgeousness according to form. That is, the lined types had better prettiness and gorgeousness than the attachable ones. There was a significant difference of attractiveness, prettiness, gorgeousness, and soft according to materials. That is, pearl was considered to be the most attractive and soft. Plastic was evaluated image of least fashionable and soft, gold did image of the least gorgeous. Third, the attractiveness of attachable diamond earring was evaluated the highest, and the lined plastic ones did the lowest. It was evaluated and concluded that the lined plastic ones is considered the prettiness and most gorgeous where as any earring with attachable gold earring were considered the least prettiness and gorgeous. The attachable silver or pearl earrings were considered to be projecting the softest image whereas the lined gold and attachable plastic ones the opposite.

  • The cultivation of akoya pearls was carried out with bio bead nucleus prepared using the hydroxyapatite. The akoya pearls cultured with bio bead nucleus were shown the color of cream. The luster and orient effect created by an action of the light from nacre were magnificent. The result of XRD is found that the nacre is a calcium carbonate of aragonite form. From the result of SEM, it is found that layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin are stratified. The properties of akoya pearls cultured with bio bead nucleus are same those of akoya pearl cultivated with bead nucleus made from washboard shell. Because of the bio bead nucleus developed in this study has such a high capacity in producing various sizes and shapes, it is very advantageous for the cultivation of akoya pearls.

  • The pearl-spot damsel, Chromis notata, is one of the important fishery species in Korea. While C. notata has been commonly harvested in southern Korea, the increasing number of C. notata in higher latitudes has crucial ecological, economic and evolutionary implications under conditions where the climate is rapidly changing. Here we examined the morphological and genetic characteristics of C. notata to assess patterns of geographical variations among the groups from three different sites. The groups were clearly distinguishable in the analysis of morphological characteristics. On the other hand, the groups were genetically indistinguishable. All individuals fell within a single clade in the neighbor-joining tree but appeared scattered in the haplotype network. Several haplotypes are shared among the sampling sites (Jejudo-Ulleungdo; Hap 9, Wangdolcho-Ulleungdo; Hap 28, Hap 33, Hap 34). Although control region markers did not elucidate the spatial patterns in genetic characteristics, Wangdolcho and Ulleungdo groups appear to exhibit a more robust gene flow between the two groups than with Jejudo group. Integrative approaches such as those combining morphological and genetic analyses minimize potential errors caused by limited perspectives of each analysis and can provide useful information for discovering functional DNA regions attributable to morphological characteristics expressions.
