  • In uranium enrichment plants and nuclear fuel fabrication facilities, exact measurement of fissile isotope enrichment of uranium is required for material accounting in international safeguards inspection as well as process quality control. The purpose of this study was to develop a simple measurement system which can portably be used at nuclear fuel fabrication plants especially dealing with low enriched uranium. For this purpose, a small size CZT (CdZnTe) detector was used, and the detector performance in low uranium gamma/X -rays energy range was investigated by use of various enriched uranium oxide samples. New enrichment measurement technique and analysis method for low enriched uranium oxide, so-called, 'semi-peak ratio technique' was developed. The newly developed method was considered as an alternative technique for the low enrichment and would be useful to account nuclear material in safeguarding activity at nuclear fuel fabrication facility.

  • Inulo-oligosaccharides (IOS, $F_n$, n=2-6) were purified from enzymatic hydrolysates of water-soluble extract of Jerusalem artichoke tubers. Quantification of inulo-oligosaccharides was done using high pH anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detector (HPAEC-PAD) at the concentration range of 10-100 mg/L, which was compared with that of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS, $GF_n$, n=1-7). Peak areas per mg IOS were higher than FOS at the same degree of polymerization (DP). Specific peak areas of IOS increased proportionally as DP increased up to six, in contrast to FOS showing no linearity.

  • This paper presents a clock and data recovery circuit that supports dual data rates of 5.4 Gbps and 3.24 Gbps for DisplayPort v1.2 sink device. A quarter-rate linear phase detector (PD) is used in order to mitigate high speed circuit design effort. The proposed linear PD results in better jitter performance by increasing up and down pulse widths of the PD and removes dead-zone problem of charge pump circuit. A voltage-controlled oscillator is designed with a 'Mode' switching control for frequency selection. The measured RMS jitter of recovered clock signal is 2.92 ps, and the peak-to-peak jitter is 24.89 ps under $2^{31}-1$ bit-long pseudo-random bit sequence at the bitrate of 5.4 Gbps. The chip area is 1.0 mm${\times}$1.3 mm, and the power consumption is 117 mW from a 1.8 V supply using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS process.

  • This paper describes a reset-free delay-locked loop (DLL) for a memory controller application, with the aid of a hysteresis coarse lock detector. The coarse lock loop in the proposed DLL adjusts the delay between input and output clock within the pull-in range of the main loop phase detector. In addition, it monitors the main loop's lock status by dividing the input clock and counting its multiphase edges. Moreover, by using hysteresis, it controls the coarse lock range, thus reduces jitter. The proposed DLL neither suffers from harmonic lock and stuck problems nor needs an external reset or start-up signal. In a 0.13-${\mu}m$ CMOS process, post-layout simulation demonstrates that, even with a switching supply noise, the peak-to-peak jitter is less than 30 ps over the operating range of 500-1200 MHz. It occupies 0.04 $mm^2$ and dissipates 16.6 mW at 1.2 GHz.

  • The full-energy peak efficiency for a collimated geometry of a Si (Li) detector has been experimentally determined using the electro-deposition sources. The radioactive sources of $^{51}$ Cr, $^{54}$ Mn, $^{57}$ Co and $^{65}$ Zn nuclides are prepared by the electro-deposition method. The measured efficiency values are corrected for the escape losses due to the K X-rays of silicon and the absorptions in materials related to source-to-detector geometry. The corrected efficiency values have turned out to be nearly constant regardless of photon energy.

  • Monte Carlo (MC) simulations are increasingly being used as an alternative or supplement to the gamma spectrometric method in determining the full energy peak efficiency (FEPE) necessary for radionuclide identification and quantification. The MC method is more advantageous than the experimental method in terms of both cost and time. Experimental calibration with standard sources is difficult, especially for specimens with unusually shaped geometries. However, with MC, efficiency values can be obtained by modeling the geometry as desired without using any calibration source. Modeling the detector with the correct parameters is critical in the MC method. These parameters given to the user by the manufacturer are especially the dimensions of the crystal and its front edge, the thickness of the dead layer, dimensions, and materials of the detector components. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the front edge geometry of the detector crystal on efficiency, so the effect of rounded and sharp modeled front edges on the FEPE was investigated for <300 keV with three different HPGe detectors in point and volume source geometries using PHITS MC code. All results showed that the crystal should be modeled as a rounded edge, especially for gamma-ray energies below 100 keV.

  • A new technique to measure low level capacitance variations of the gyroscope is proposed and verified by computer simulation. It is based on the new CV(capacitance-voltage) converter circuit biased by dc current source and the peak detector without low pass filter. The CV converter biased by dc current source provides good signal-to-noise ratio and this setup of the detection circuitry without low pass filter makes it possible to provide short settling time, that is, higher speed of measurement and wide operation range if only a few parameters are adjusted. The key parameters that affect the performance of the detection circuitry are illustrated and computer simulation results are presented. The demonstrated detection circuitry shows linear response from 10 fF to 130 fF at 10 kHz and shows good linearity.

  • A new technique to measure low level capacitance variations of a gyroscope is proposed. It is based on the improved CVC(capacitance to voltage converter) biased by a d.c. current source and the peak detector without any low pass filter. This setup of the measurement system makes it possible to provide higher speed of measurement and wide operation range. The d,c, drift of the conventional CVC and stray capacitances are automatically compensated. Key parameters that affect the performance of the measurement system are illustrated and computer simulation results are presented. The demonstrated measurement system for micromachined gyroscope applications shows a linearity of 0.99972 and a resolution of 0.67fF from 10 fF to 120 fF at 10 kHz.

  • The diode characteristics for therapy radiation sensor have been studied by irradiating therapy radiation from the MM22 microtron accelerator. Signal processing has been performed in the pulse mode which can process the signal fast. We have designed integrator, peak detector and synchronization circuit to detect diode signal in the pulse mode for implementation of portal image. We also read the diode signal by A/D board and displayed the peak value with LabView program. Because the quality of portal image obtained by film in the case of therapy radiation is much worse than that of diagnostic film, Digital radiography system by rectifier diode detector was suggested for portal Image.

  • In this paper, peak detector of generator output voltage and variable gain controller is introduced for the fast dynamic response. The general r.m.s. detecting signal of generator has inherent time delay from the actual signal. So the dynamic response of generator using conventional PID controller has some problem in sudden load change. In order to overcome this problem, the peak detector and signal selector with variable gain controller is used in this paper. The proposed control scheme is verified from experimental test of 200kW diesel engine-generator.
