  • Soybean meal(SMB) has not only been an important source of protein, but also a major source of isolfavones(IF) for poultry diet. Since the IF is one of effective phytoestrogens, evaluation of bioavailability of the phytochemicals for poultry and development of an animal model for assessment of the availability should be essential for its practical application. Present study was to develop bird model for assessing their bioavailability. No reports for such measurments with poultry could have every been found. Eight, 6-wk-old, layer-type, male birds were divided into two groups of four birds; normal (N) and colostomized(COL). Each bird was tube-fed a SMB sample at a level of 1% body weight. Samples from blood, urine and feces(COL birds) or urine+feces (N) were collected at 0, 2, 8, 15, 24 and 48 hours after the feeding. Plasma and urine samples were treated with -glucuronidase and fecal samples with 4N HCl for measurement of genistein(GE) and daidzein (DA) with HPLC set with an electrochemical detector. Maximum peaks of plasma IF appeared at 2 h after the meal for both birds groups. However the IF peak for N group was GE, while that for COL group was DA. Plasma DA levels for COL birds were always higher than those of GE, which was in opposite trend for N birds. This trend observed in the N birds is in accordance with those reported in rats fed SBM. In conclusion the results seem to suggest that colostomy as an attempt to separate urine from feces in birds affected the IF metabolism in the intestine and may not be a proper bird model to measure the IF bioavailability.

  • When examining a patient using SPECT, gamma rays emitted from the body decrease or scatter. And when they reach the detector they spread in accordance with physical characteristics and geometric shapes of the scanner, quantitative analysis was difficult. For exact quantitative analysis of gamma rays emitted from the body, so that they must be considered to correction about PVE(partial volume effect). In this paper, sinogram filter was implemented to solve comprehensive PVE of SPECT. According to the results in which implemented filter was applied, partial volume effect caused by SPECT was removed. To compare proposed method and conventional method, PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) was executed. As a result, proposed method was indicated as 7dB, conventional method was indicated as 14db respectively. dB(decibel) level of the proposed methods is lower, since the MSE(mean square error) becomes greater because scattered ray was removed, PSNR value is low. Therefore, by applying the proposed method for removing the PVE of SPECT imaging method, the image quality is improved.

  • 5-HT$_{2C}$ receptors have been considered as therapeutic targets for the treatment of various central nervous system disorders such as depression, anxiety, epilepsy, schizophrenia and sleep disorders. We chemically synthesized KKHQ80114 (K14) and KKHQ80109 (K09), selective 5-HT$_{2C}$ agonists, with the purpose of developing therapeutic agents for the treatment of obesity. The objective of this work is to investigate analytical methods of these compounds in the plasma and urine of rats by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. In this experiment, K14 was determined in plasma and urine by using K09 as internal standard. Calibration curves give a good linearity in plasma (r$^2$=0.9993) and urine (r$^2$=0.9988). Among hexane, ethyl acetate and diethyl ether, the highest peak was observed in diethyl ether. However, ethyl acetate was used since more interfering peaks were observed with diethyl ether. Inter-day precision and accuracy were determined in the ranges of 50-500 ng/mL for plasma and 10-500 ng/ml for urine. Quantitation limits were 50 ng/mL plasma and 25 ng/ mL urine. These data may be applicable for further studies of these compounds including absorption and metabolism due to no pharmacokinetic or analytical data available.

  • Kiwifruit pulp was separated into insoluble pulp and serum by centrifugation at 14,000 rpm for 10 min. The serum portion was concentrated at $30{\sim}50mmHg\;and\;50{\sim}55^{\circ}C$ with aroma recovery. Vapor generated at the early stage of vacuum evaporation was condensed and taken as aroma fractions: $E-I\;(0{\sim}10%),\;E-II,\;(10{\sim}20%)$. The volatile flavor compounds in kiwifruit pulp were collected by dynamic headspace technique and analyzed by GC and GC/MSD. The yield of serum separated from kiwifruit pulp was 70.1% and insoluble pulp fraction contained aroma compounds more than that of the serum. Twenty-six aroma compounds, including (E)-2-hexanal and ethyl butanoate were detected. The efficiency of the aroma recovery was reduced as the recovery time was extended, as indicated by the less peak numbers and kiwifruit areas of aroma fractions.

  • A lead slowing down spectrometer (LSDS) is under development for analysis of isotopic fissile material contents in pyro-processed material, or spent fuel. Many current commercial fissile assay technologies have a limitation in accurate and direct assay of fissile content. However, LSDS is very sensitive in distinguishing fissile fission signals from each isotope. A neutron spectrum analysis was conducted in the spectrometer and the energy resolution was investigated from 0.1eV to 100keV. The spectrum was well shaped in the slowing down energy. The resolution was enough to obtain each fissile from 0.2eV to 1keV. The detector existence in the lead will disturb the source neutron spectrum. It causes a change in resolution and peak amplitude. The intense source neutron production was designed for ~E12 n's/sec to overcome spent fuel background. The detection sensitivity of U238 and Th232 fission chamber was investigated. The first and second layer detectors increase detection efficiency. Thorium also has a threshold property to detect the fast fission neutrons from fissile fission. However, the detection of Th232 is about 76% of that of U238. A linear detection model was set up over the slowing down neutron energy to obtain each fissile material content. The isotopic fissile assay using LSDS is applicable for the optimum design of spent fuel storage to maximize burnup credit and quality assurance of the recycled nuclear material for safety and economics. LSDS technology will contribute to the transparency and credibility of pyro-process using spent fuel, as internationally demanded.

  • Sandy and dusty weather condition often occurs in the high altitude areas of China, which may greatly influence the corona generated radio interference (RI) characteristics of the bundle conductors of 750 kV AC power transmission lines. Corona generated RI of the conductors of the 750 kV AC power transmission lines used in practice is measured by EMI receiver with a coupling circuit and a coupling capacitor connected between the high voltage side and the earth side in fine and sandy and dusty condition. The measuring frequency is 0.5 MHz, and the quasi-peak detection is used. RI excitation function is calculated based on the corona RI current measured by the EMI receiver. Corona generated RI characteristics were analyzed from sand concentration and sand particle size. The test result shows that the corona generated RI excitation function is influenced by the sandy and dusty condition. Corona discharge of the conductors is more serious in sandy and dusty condition with an ultraviolet (UV) detector. Corona generated RI excitation function increases with the increase of sand concentration and also increases with the increase of particle size.

  • The detection of geometric primitives from a digital image is one of the basic tasks in computer vision area and the Hough transform is a well-known method for detecting analytical shape represented by a number of free parameters. However the basic property of the Hough transform, the one-to-many mapping from an image space to a Hough space, causes the innate problem, the sensitivity to noise. In this paper, we proposed Edge Strength Hough Transform which uses edge strength to reduce the sensitivity to noise and proved the insensitivity using the ratio of peaks in a Mough space. We also experimented the proposed method on lines and got small number of peaks in a Hough space compared to traditional Hough transform, which supports the noise insensitivity of the proposed method.

  • A modified adaptive switching median filter for impulse noise removal, which has the noise detection step and the noise filtering step, is proposed in this paper. In the noise detection step, we use the detection threshold which is earned by calculating the intensity differences between pixels nearby with each other in localized window, to determine whether the pixels in the image are noise or not. Then in the noise filtering step, we will only remove the corrupted pixels and remain the good pixels. By the noise detection result, we can easily get the local noise density of the image, and use it to consider the filtering mask size and the times of filtering iteration according to different localized noise corruptions. For Setting the simulation result, we compared the proposed method to conventional median filters with several test images corrupted by various impulse noise densities. We also use the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to evaluate restoration performance, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method shows better results than other median-based type filters.

  • A quick and simple method for simultaneous determination of the 30 ginsenosides (ginsenoside Ro, Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, Rg1, 20(S)-Rg2, 20(R)-Rg2, 20(S)-Rg3, 20(R)-Rg3, 20(S)-Rh1, 20(S)-Rh2, 20(R)-Rh2, F1, F2, F4, Ra1, Rg6, Rh4, Rk3, Rg5, Rk1, Rb3, Rk2, Rh3, compound Y, compound K, and notoginsenoside R1) in Panax ginseng preparations was developed and validated by an ultra performance liquid chromatography photo diode array detector. The separation of the 30 ginsenosides was efficiently undertaken on the Acquity BEH C-18 column with gradient elution with phosphoric acids. Especially the chromatogram of the ginsenoside Ro was dramatically enhanced by adding phosphoric acid. Under optimized conditions, the detection limits were 0.4 to 1.7 mg/L and the calibration curves of the peak areas for the 30 ginsenosides were linear over three orders of magnitude with a correlation coefficients greater than 0.999. The accuracy of the method was tested by a recovery measurement of the spiked samples which yielded good results of 89% to 118%. From these overall results, the proposed method may be helpful in the development and quality of P. ginseng preparations because of its wide range of applications due to the simultaneous analysis of many kinds of ginsenosides.
