반복적인 수침이 아스팔트 혼합물의 재료물성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Repeated Immersion on Material Properties of Asphalt Mixtures)

  • 아스팔트 혼합물의 수분손상은 물의 침투로 인해 아스팔트 피막과 골재 사이의 부착력이 손실되면서 발생하는 현상으로서, 이는 아스팔트 포장의 주요 파손형태 중 하나인 포트흘의 주요원인으로 알려져 있다. 이에 본 연구는 반복적인 수침에 의한 수분손상이 일반 아스팔트 혼합물의 재료물성에 미치는 영향을 평가하고자 수행하였다. 이를 위해 기존의 수분손상 시험법인 수정 라트만 시험의 수분 동결-응해 방법을 반복적으로 적용한 일반 아스팔트 혼합물을 대상으로 간접인장시험에 의한 상온물성의 변화특성을 평가하였다. 이를 통해 일반 아스팔트 혼합물의 상온물성은 수침횟수의 증가에 따라 초기에는 급격하게 감소하다가 이후 완만한 감소추세를 나타내었으며, 초기 수분손상에서 물성값의 약 50% 이상이 손실되는 것으로 관측되었다. 또한 파괴시점을 고려한 아스팔트 혼합물의 조기 수분손상 특성을 파악하는데, $25^{\circ}C$의 파괴 에너지와 크리프 변형 에너지를 이용한 재료물성의 손상비가 가장 높은 상관성을 나타내는 것으로 평가되었다.

비접착식 콘크리트 덧씌우기 포장에서의 아스팔트와 Geotextile 중간층에 대한 영향 평가 (Evaluation of the Effect of Asphalt and Geotextile Interlayer on Unbonded Concrete Overlay)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of asphalt and geotextile interlayer on the fracture behavior of unbonded concrete overlay through a laboratory composite beam test. METHODS : In order to evaluate the effect of interlayer materials on the fracture behavior of unbonded concrete overlay, a laboratory test of composite beam was conducted with different types of interlayer. The test results of the composite beam using two types of geotextile interlayer with different thicknesses were compared to the test results of the composite beam using the tradition type of asphalt interlayer. The unbonded concrete overlay on the existing concrete pavement without interlayer was set for the control condition. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION : Overall, the laboratory composite beam test results did show the effect of asphalt and geotextile interlayer on the fracture behavior of composite concrete beams. The three-layer geotextile interlayer and HMA layer both increase the peak load when the first macrocrack occurs in the top concrete beam, while the HMA interlayer causes the smallest load drop percentage after the first macrocrack. The three-layer geotextile did show better performance than the single-layer geotextile through the greater peak load and smaller load drop percentage. It indicates that the thickness of geotextile interlayer will affect the fracture behavior of unbonded concrete overlay and the thicker geotextile interlayer is recommended.

온도의 영향에 대한 Weigh-In-Motion 시스템의 차량중량자료 보정기법 (Calibration Method of Vehicle Weight Data from Weigh-In-Motion System According to Temperature Effects)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 장기적인 차량중량자료의 획득을 위하여 설치된 Weigh-In-Motion(WIM)시스템의 정확도를 개선하기 위한 온도영향 보정기법을 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위해 국내 교통량통계연보에 근거하여 중차량교통량이 많은 지역 중 한 곳을 선정하고 WIM 시스템을 설치하여 2010년 1월부터 차량의 중량자료를 획득하였다. 본 연구에서는 획득한 자료 가운데 5월부터 8월까지의 WIM 자료에 대하여 온도에 따른 영향을 보정하기 위하여 화물적재량에 따른 영향을 가장 덜 받아 상대적으로 일정한 중량값을 나타내는 10종 차량(5축 세미트랙터트레일러)의 첫 번째 축의 중량자료를 이용하였다. 이로부터 일평균, 최대 및 최저기온에 따른 보정식을 개발하였다. 마지막으로 새로 얻어진 차량중량자료를 분석하여 보정방법의 적정함을 나타내었고 재현주기별 극한하중 예측을 통해 보정 전,후의 자료값의 차이를 비교하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 WIM system으로 얻게 되는 장기적인 차량중량자료의 정확도를 향상시킴으로써 도로포장 설계 및 교량설계를 위한 설계차량활하중모형의 합리적인 선택에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.

지표투과레이더를 이용한 아스팔트 혼합물의 공극률 예측에 관한 연구 (Estimation of Air Voids in Asphalt Mixtures Using Ground-Penetrating Radar)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the dielectric characteristics of asphalt mixtures and the air voids present in them using ground penetrating radar (GPR) testing. METHODS : To measure the dielectric properties of the asphalt mixtures, the reflection coefficient method and the approach based on the actual thickness of the asphalt layer were used. An air-couple-type GPR antenna with a center frequency of 1 GHz was used to measure the time for reflection from the asphalt/base layer interface. A piece of aluminum foil was placed at the interface to be able to determine the reflection time of the GPR signal with accuracy. An asphalt pavement testbed was constructed, and asphalt mixtures with different compaction numbers were tested. After the GPR tests, the asphalt samples were cored and their thicknesses and number of air voids were measured in the laboratory. RESULTS : It was found the dielectric constant of asphalt mixtures tends to decrease with an increase in the number of air voids. The dielectric constant values estimated from the reflection coefficient method exhibited a slight correlation to the number of air voids. However, the dielectric constant values measured using the approach based on the actual asphalt layer thickness were closely related to the asphalt mixture density. Based on these results, a regression equation to determine the number of air voids in asphalt mixtures using the GPR test method was proposed. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the number of air voids in an asphalt mixture can be calculated based on the dielectric constant of the mixture as determined by GPR testing. It was also found that the number of air voids was exponentially related to the dielectric constant, with the coefficient of determination, $R^2$, being 0.74. These results suggest that the dielectric constant as determined by GPR testing can be used to improve the construction quality and maintenance of asphalt pavements.

표면 에너지 원리를 이용한 칩실 포장의 초기 점착력 특성 연구 (Study on Early Adhesive Characteristic of Chip Seals Using a Surface Energy Approach)

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to evaluate the early adhesive characteristic of asphalt emulsions, including polymer-modified emulsions, for chip seals using the surface energy concept, the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test, and the Vialit test. METHODS : Two general methods, the BBS test and Vialit test, were applied to investigate the bond strength and the aggregate loss, respectively. A new theory, the surface free energy (SFE) theory, was used to evaluate the adhesive characteristic between the emulsion and the aggregate. Based on the theory, the contact angles were measured, and then the surface energy components were calculated. Using those components, the work of adhesion (Wa) was calculated for each emulsion. To ensure reliable results, all the tests were performed under the same conditions, i.e., at $25^{\circ}C$ for 240 minutes of curing time. For the materials, three emulsions (CRS-2, CRS-2L, and CRS-2P) and one aggregate type (granite) were employed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Under the same conditions, the modified emulsions showed better adhesive characteristics and curing behaviors than the unmodified emulsions. In addition, there was no significant difference between the various modified emulsions. One of the important findings is that the analysis by Wa presents more sensitive results than other methods. The results of the Wa showed that the CRS-2P emulsion has the best adhesive characteristics. Consequently, the use of modified emulsions for chip seals could prevent aggregate loss and allow open traffic earlier.

고속도로 노면 강우유출 오염부하 원단위 산정 (Analysis of Unit Pollution Load on Highway runoff)

  • Impervious surface increase due to urbanization, one of the leading causes of pavement increased the runoff coefficient, peak flow, and reducing the infiltration flow and thereby causing flooding and river erosion is occurring in aquatic ecosystems are known to impair. This study aimed to classify use type of detailed land into the road, reststop, tollgates and etc. focused on major domestic highways, to understand the characteristics of rainfall runoff pollutants and to calculate applicable unit pollution load. Because of high runoff coefficient and short travel time to drainage. first flush occurred clearly. Average EMCs of runoff in the highway was investigated as TSS 108.47 mg / L, COD 28.16 mg / L, BOD 13.61 mg / L, TN 6.38 mg / L, TP 0.03 mg / L, Cu 118.17 ${\mu}g$ / L, Pb 345.3 ${\mu}g$ / L, Zn 349.47 ${\mu}g$ / L. Unit pollution loads calculated by detailed land use area of highways based on average annual rainfall, EMCs, applicable basin areas and etc. were 46.6 kg/km2/day of BOD, 1.4 kg/km2/day of TP, 8.81 kg / km2/day of TN and these were BOD 50.8%, TP 66.7%, TN 64.4%in comparison of the unit pollution loads which applies fallow land standards of the TMDL(Total Maximum Daily Load). It was considered that discharged loads can be excessively calculated in case highway non-point management plans based on unit pollution load of the current land standard.

폴리머 콘크리트 오버레이의 수축응력에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Shrinkage Stresses in Polymer Concrete Overlays)

  • 폴리머 콘크리트를 오버레이 콘크리트로서 기존 시멘트 콘크리트 위에 타설할 경우 폴리머 콘크리트의 경화수축으로 말미암아 전단응력, 수직응력 및 축응력이 발생되며 이러한 응력은 폴리머 콘크리트와 기존 시멘트 콘크리트 사이의 접착성능에 영향을 미쳐 결국 역학적 성질 및 내구성이 저하될 수 있다. 오버레이 콘크리트의 수축응력은 본 실험에서 실시한 구속된 오버레이 콘크리트의 구속해제에 의한 수축변형량과 탄성계수로서 구할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 폴리머 종류, 오버레이 콘크리트 두께, 양생시간과 온도에 따른 폴리머 콘크리트 및 폴리머 시멘트 콘크리트의 수축에 의한 축응력을 측정하여 폴리머 콘크리트를 각종 교량등의 오버레이 콘크리트로 사용하멩 있어서 기초적 자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 폴리머 콘크리트의 경화수축응력은 폴리머의 종류, 양생온도, 재령 및 두께에 의해 영향을 크게 받는 것으로 나타났다.

도로시설물 자산관리를 위한 서비스수준체계 개발 (Development of Level of Service System for Road Infrastructure Asset Management)

  • PURPOSES: The aim of this paper is developing user-oriented flexible Level Of Service (LOS) system for integrated asset management of various road facilities. It is essential to overcome limitations of general management systems which only focus on a type of assets (e.g. pavement, bridge etc.), and to serve a customizable LOS platform for smooth implementation and future improvement of the LOS considering various managerial environments of road agencies. METHODS: This study suggested a total framework of the LOS system as a process for self-development, operation and improvement of LOS system to conduct the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) in management process. In the process, we adopted user-customizable elements regarding asset definition, service index and evaluation method to match with the managerial environment of road agencies. In addition, we conducted an empirical study on the entire process of the suggested LOS system with a real road agency (Korea Express Highway) to prove applicability of the LOS system. RESULTS: From the empirical study, we confirmed that the suggested LOS system framework were suitable for development of customized LOS system. In addition, evaluation of asset conditions by LOS ratings, and quantification of vision achievement of the Korea Express Highway were successfully made. It would be the first trial in integrated management approach with LOS systems for numerous road facilities. CONCLUSIONS : It was recognized that easy application and sustainable improvement of the LOS was the most critical point in asset management. The suggested LOS system would be a powerful weapon as a managerial tool in preparing tight budget, aging infrastructures, and increased demands for more accountability both in Korea and internationally. Implementation of the LOS system needs to be expanded to the other infrastructure members to serve satisfactory level of service to taxpayers.

도로기상정보체계 활성화를 위한 노면온도예측 모형 개발 (A Road Surface Temperature Prediction Modeling for Road Weather Information System)

  • 본 연구에서는 지표면과 대기사이의 열-에너지 균형원리를 이용한 노면온도예측모형을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 노면온도예측모형은 두 가지 모듈로 구성되는데 Canopy 1은 지표면과 대기 간의 열 교환을 묘사하기 위한 것이고, Canopy 2는 열에너지 교환 과정에서 포장체 특성을 반영하기 위한 것이다. 모형 수행에 필요한 다양한 입력변수는 기상청으로부터 수집하였다. 개발된 모형의 성능을 평가하기 위해 청원-상주 간 고속도로 상 문의교 지점에 설치된 접촉식 노면온도측정센서로부터 수집한 노면온도자료와 모형 수행을 통해 나온 결과 값을 비교 하였다. 이러한 비교는 동절기(12월)와 동절기 외 기간(10월)에 걸쳐 수행되었다. 비교 결과, 두 온도의 평균오차 값이 ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$ 범위 내에 있어, 모형의 성능이 매우 우수한 것으로 판단된다. 이러한 연구는 동절기 도로관리에 다양하게 사용될 것으로 사료되고, 특히 도로 기상정보체계 운영에 핵심이 되는 노면온도 예측 알고리즘으로 사용될 수 있는 기초 연구가 될 것이다.

Suppression of the ER-Localized AAA ATPase NgCDC48 Inhibits Tobacco Growth and Development

  • CDC48 is a member of the AAA ATPase superfamily. Yeast CDC48 and its mammalian homolog p97 are implicated in diverse cellular processes, including mitosis, membrane fusion, and ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation. However, the cellular functions of plant CDC48 proteins are largely unknown. In the present study, we performed virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) screening and found that silencing of a gene encoding a tobacco CDC48 homolog, NgCDC48, resulted in severe abnormalities in leaf and shoot development in tobacco. Furthermore, transgenic tobacco plants (35S:anti-NgCDC48), in which the NgCDC48 gene was suppressed using the antisense RNA method, exhibited severely aberrant development of both vegetative and reproductive organs, resulting in arrested shoot and leaf growth and sterile flowers. Approximately 57-83% of 35S:anti-NgCDC48 plants failed to develop mature organs and died at early stage of development. Scanning electron microscopy showed that both adaxial and abaxial epidermal pavement cells in antisense transgenic leaves were significantly smaller and more numerous than those in wild type leaves. These results indicate that NgCDC48 is critically involved in cell growth and development of tobacco plants. An in vivo targeting experiment revealed that NgCDC48 resides in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in tobacco protoplasts. We consider the tantalizing possibility that CDC48-mediated degradation of an as-yet unidentified protein(s) in the ER might be a critical step for cell growth and expansion in tobacco leaves.
