The regeneration of built-up areas is considered as one of the necessary measures for the effectiveness of urban growth management. In this vein, this study explores how to limit the number of people who leaves the built-up areas and to restore the area with the resident. For this, a residential area of the built-up area is analyzed in terms of why people in that area are moving out of the area and who fills in it after all. This study founds that narrow roads in a residential area and the changes in land use from residential purposes to commercial are major forces that push the people in the built-up area. In addition, the lack of welfare facilities, the pavement of roads, and pedestrian roads. education. crime. the lack of interaction between neighbors, and the quality of housing are all emerged contributing the loss of people in the built-up areas. It is recommended that all the factors here should be restored in an appropriate way. Another finding is that those who fill in the built-up area are largely over 50, self-employed, comparably wealthy, and having their own families. Hence, it is advised that the built-up area would be rearranged in order to attract those type of people in there.
This study selected and analyzed filter media that can be applied in non-point pollution reduction devices aimed at processing the source of pollution on site for road runoff that increases rapidly in rainfall-runoff in order to improve the water quality of urban areas. First, the factors that affect the quality of runoff caused by sources of non-point pollution include physical and social factors such as the usage of land around the area of water collection, type of pavement and movement of cars and people, as well as rainfall characteristics such as frequency, intensity, amount and duration of rainfall. Second, the purification tests of the filter media were processed for pH, BOD, COD and T-P, and the filter media showed to have initial purification effect at that items. However, the filter media showed to be very effective for the processing of SS, T-N, Zn and Cd from the beginning to the end. Third, for filter media, zeolite and vermiculite showed to be effective for processing SS, T-N, Zn and CD constantly, and composite filter media including zeolite showed to have strong processing effects. The authors conclude that this study can be applied to technical areas and policies aimed at reducing non-point pollution in urban areas and can also contribute to allowing eco-friendly management of rainfall as well as improvement of water quality.

Dwindling supplies and increasing costs of conventional highway materials used in road construction as well as concerns over shrinking landfill spaces prompt researchers to investigate the use of waste products, such as fly ash, as substitute materials in highway construction. The highway industry is capable of utilizing waste materials in large quantities if their effect on pavement performance proves to be technically, economically and environmentally satisfactory. This research examines the effects of fly ash when used as partial replacement of aggregate in asphaltic concrete mixtures. And measuring the effect of fly ash on bulk specific gravity, air void, indirect tensile strength (ITS) under dry and wet conditioning as well as the tensile strength ratio (TSR) of asphaltic concrete mixture. The results indicated that asphaltic concrete mixtures containing 2% and 5% fly ash produced about the same TSR value as control mixture. And all of the mixtures met the minimum ITS and TSR requirements established by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SC DOT) for Type 1A surface courses. At this point and with this limited study, these asphaltic concrete mixtures is recommended in several applications such as parking lot, secondary roads and driveways.

Use of recycled aggregates in portland cement concrete (PCC) construction can offer benefits associated with both economy and sustainability. Testing performed to date indicates that recycled brick masonry aggregate (RBMA) can be used as a 100% replacement for conventional coarse aggregate in concrete that exhibits acceptable mechanical properties for use in structural and pavement elements, including satisfactory performance in some durability tests. Recycled brick masonry aggregate concrete (RBMAC) is currently not used in any type of construction in the United States. However, use of RBMAC could become a viable construction strategy as sustainable building practices become the norm. This paper explores the feasibility of use of RBMAC in several types of sustainable construction initiatives, based upon the findings of previous work with RBMAC that incorporates RBMA produced from construction and demolition waste from a case study site. A summary of material properties of RBMAC that will be useful to construction professionals are presented, along with a discussion of advantages and impediments to use. Several quality assurance and quality control techniques that could be incorporated into specifications are identified.
The needs for drawing up of biotope map is rapidly spreaded over each local government recently in Korea, according as enhancing of interest about biotope, which is recognized to practical instrument for concretely being able to considering natural environment and ecosystem on all sorts of development plan. However, there are not yet the standard suggestion on biotope types and classification systems and biotope classification criteria. Therefore, each other methodologies are applied to each of local autonomies. First, under such critical mind the biotope types and classification systems were drafted by a review on biotope types, biotope classification systems, and biotope classification criteria of the preceded case studies until now at the inside and outside of the country. And then the purpose of this study is to derive biotope types and biotope classification systems applicable to the whole Korean region through continual feed back such as field surveys in selected representative areas and consultations. As a result of reviewing the case examples, first, the biotope classification systems were mixed two steps system with three steps system and those were composed mostly of the structure of two steps: large and small. Second, land-use, soil pavement ratio, green cover ratio, and vegetation usually were applied to the biotope classification criteria. This study suggests that the biotope classification system is consisted of four steps system: large(biotope class), medium(biotope group), small(biotope type) and detail(sub-biotope type), and the biotope types are classified into 13 types of large step, 45 types of medium step and 127 types of small step. However, this study suggests that the new biotope types on small step or detail step should be continually supplemented with the foundation of classification system proposed in this study because the biotope type classification should consider regional characteristics.

The purpose of this research was to establish a green-networks from the perfective of landscape ecology in order to improve the function of urban green spaces. The study site was Dalsu-Gu in Daegu City. This research consisted of three phases. In the first phase, field surveys were carried out in order to understand existing distribution pattern of green spaces in the study site. 533 green spaces surveyed in the first phase were classified into 7 patterns and 24 types. The total area of the green spaces in Dalsu-gu was 3,329ha. Specifically the area of the 'urban nature parks' type was 57.49% of the total area of green spaces in Dalsu-gu, and it was expected that 'urban nature parks' type can play important roles in the green-networks in Dalsu-gu. Two analysis with green spaces in 9 types including 'urban nature parks', 'rivers' and 'neighborhood parks' were performed to establish a basic network frame of the green-networks. In the second phase, 'mutual connectivity analysis' and 'mutual matrix analysis' were performed to select core green spaces of a green-networks using 'areas of each green space and a distance between each space' and 'a rate of green spaces and a rate of water permeable pavement'. The results of the second phase indicated that, in mutual connectivity analysis, large green spaces apart from each other were evaluated as having higher mutual connectivity than small green spaces near to each other. In mutual matrix analysis, the green spaces with higher mutual connectivity and the small green spaces near to each other were evaluated as having better mutual matrix. In the last phase, we structured a basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu. The results suggested that the basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu was composed on four green-network axes and its shape mirrored a cruciform(+) of northwest${\longleftrightarrow}$southeast directions and southwest${\longleftrightarrow}$northeast directions, The Duryu neighborhood park is at the central point of this green-networks.
Most of domestic expansion joint system was applied by exposed expansion joint system. There are cases where it is damaged by driving. As the result noise and impact happened, and the social cost due to frequent repair works is increasing. So based on the Asphalt Plug Joint(APJ) system that applied in the United States and Europe, new buried expansion joint system was lately developed a system of Buried Folding Lattice Joint(BFLJ) that changed substructure. In this research, we have tested for durability and flexibility performance of buried expansion joint system that based on the type of asphalt mixture. Also we have evaluated for durability of BFLJ system against vehicle load using accelerated pavement testing. As a result of the experiment, the developed BFLJ system gives high flexibility performance and resolves transformation concentration along the joint section more than APJ system. Also it could be seen that the BFLJ system could overcome the disadvantages of APJ and prevent early damage. Because surface deflection of BFLJ system against vehicle load was measured low, and sub system in the buried expansion joint system was not damaged against vehicle load.
Position of stop line according to left turn trajectory at intersections was studied. The Purpose of this study is to suggest a design guideline of left turn trajectory at intersections which is related to the Position of cross road stop line. Distance from the curb line to the stop line at each lane was calculated and discussed for various combination of road widths. Three design vehicle type and three control radii were considered. Setbacks of stop line from the curb line are Proportional to the control radius which depends on type of design vehicle. 8m, lim and 19m setback for control radius of 12m, 15m and 23m were calculated respectively as their maximum value. This result will be helpful to Paint the road marking on the Pavement which is usually difficult to fit to the designated radius. Field study of the effect of left turn trajectory on flow rate and safety was conducted. It was approved that improperly designed left turn trajectory decreases left turn capacity and increases conflicts among left turn flows of the adjacent lane.
PURPOSES : It is necessary to clarify the rheological properties of cement paste as a basic research in the development of mechanistic concrete mix design. The rheological properties of cement paste with different binder types, mix propositions, and with/without high range water reducers have been analyzed. METHODS : In this study, ordinary Portland cement, fly-ash, blast furnace slag, silica fume, and limestone powder were used as binders. The range of water-binder ratio was 0.3-0.5, and a total of 30 different mixes have been tested. The slump flow test, V-funnel test, and Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) test were performed to analyze the rheological properties of cement paste. RESULTS : As a result of the slump flow test, it was found that the composition ratio of the binder contents greatly affected the paste flow when the high range water reducers were added. The results of V-funnel test showed that when the water-binder ratio was decreased without high range water reducers, the binder composition ratio had a large effect on the passing time of the V-funnel tester, but with high range water reducers the impact of the binder composition ratio was decreased. The slump flow and V-funnel have a certain relationship with the rheological factors (yield stress and plastic viscosity), but the correlation was not significant. Finally, we proposed the M-value considering the density and specific surface area of the binder. The correlation between rheological factors and M-value were better demonstrated than experimental values, but there is still a limit to predict the rheological factor in general mix design. CONCLUSIONS :In this study, the rheological properties of cement paste were analyzed. The binder type, composition ratio of binder, and with/without high range water reducers have combined to provide the complex effects on the rheological properties of cement paste. The correlation between the proposed M-value and rheological factor was found to be better than experimental results, but needs to be improved in the future.
Recently, road cave-ins, also referred to as ground sinking, have become a problem in urban environments. Public utility facilities such as sewage pipelines, communications pipes, gas pipes, power cables, and other types of underground structures are installed below the roads. It was reported that cave-ins are caused by the aging and lack of proper maintenance of underground facilities, as well as by construction problems. A road cave-in is first initiated by the formation of cavities typically induced by the breakage of underground pipelines. The cavities then grow and reach the base of the pavement. The traffic load applied at the surface of the roads causes an abrupt plastic deformation. This type of accident can be considered as a type of disaster. A road cave-in can threaten both human safety and the economy. It may even result in the loss of human life. In the city of Seoul, efforts to prevent damage before cave-ins occur have been prioritized, through a method of discovering and repairing joints through the 3D GPR survey.
