  • Normal mixture model(NMM) frequently used to cluster genes on microarray gene expression data. In this paper some of component means of NMM are modelled by a linear regression model so that its design matrix presents the pattern between sample classes in microarray matrix. This modelling for the component means by given design matrices certainly has an advantage that we can lead the clusters that are previously designed. However, it suffers from 'overfitting' problem because in practice genes often are highly dimensional. This problem also arises when the NMM restricted by the linear model for component-means is fitted. To cope with this problem, in this paper, the use of the factor analyzer NMM restricted by linear model is proposed to cluster genes. Also several design matrices which are useful for clustering genes are provided.

  • In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for personal identification of dorsal surface pattern of hand vein pattern using graph theory. Using dense ranee data images of the hand vein pattern, we used matching algorithm within the frame work of graph theory for the determination of the desired correspondence. Through preprocessing, the captured images are more sharp, clear and thinning. After thinning, the images are normalized and make graph with node and edge set. This normalized graph can make adjacent matrix. Each adjacent matrix from individual vein pattern are different. From examining the performance of individual vein patterns, we can approach performances well kind biometric technique.

  • IPA(interpattern association) model is a method of feature extraction using a neural network. Even in the case that the reference patterns are simuklar to one another, this model can recover the reference patterns effectively. However, when the pattern whose feature pixels are lost is used as input, this model can not guarantee perfect recovery of the reference pattern. It is proposed a improved interpattern association(IPA) model for the feature extraction using neural network. The improved IPA model that combines the first interconnection weight matrix of the IPA model with the second additional weight matrix is proposed here to overcome the recovery problem of the original IPA model. The results of computer simulation and optical experiment are advanced.

  • Observations of neutrino oscillations are very strong evidence for the existence of neutrino masses and mixing. From recent experimental results on neutrino oscillation, we find that neutrino mixing angles are quite consistent with the so-called tri-bi-maximal mixing pattern, but the deviation from observational results is non-negligible. However, the tri-bi-maximal mixing pattern is still useful as a leading order approximation and provides a good guideline to search for the flavor symmetry in the neutrino sector. We introduce the $S_4$ permutation symmetry as a flavor symmetry to the standard model of particle physics with additional particle contents of heavy right-handed neutrinos and scalar fields. Finally, we obtain the tri-bi-maximal mixing pattern as a mixing matrix in the lepton sector within the suggested model. To derive the required unitary mixing matrix for the neutrino sector, the double seesaw mechanism is utilized.

  • Flexible pressure sensor was developed using low-cost conductive graphite as printed electronics. Flexible pressure sensors are attracting attention as materials to be used in future industries such as medical, games, and AI. As a result of evaluating various electromechanical properties of the printed electrode for flexible pressure sensors, it showed a constant resistance change rate in a maximum tensile rate of 20%, 30° tension/bending, and a simple pulse test. A more appropriate matrix pattern was designed by simulating the electrodes for which this verification was completed. Utilizing the Serpentine pattern, we utilized a process that allows simultaneous fabrication and encapsulation of the matrix pattern. One side of the printed graphite electrode was O2 plasma surface treated to increase adhesive strength, rotated 90 times, and two electrodes were made into one through a lamination process. As a result of pasting the matrix pattern prepared in this way to the wrist pulse position of the human body and proceeding with the actual measurement, a constant rate of resistance change was shown regardless of gender.

  • The effect of loading dose, plasticiser and PVA molecular weight on naproxen release from hydrophilic polymer matrix was examined. Hydrophilic polymer matrix was prepared with PVA and PVP by adding glycerine as plasticiser. The release of naproxen from polymer matrix was determined in phosphate buffer medium. The release rate of naproxen from the polymer matrix increased as drug loading dose and plasticiser percentage increased. Raproxen released from the polymer matrix showed the time square root kinetics. Without changing the release-pattern, the release rate of naproxen could not be changed by varying molecular weight of PVA. Linearly released time range increased as drug loading dose increased, whereas decreased as plasticiser percentage increased up to 30%.

  • In this paper GFI (Generalized Fuzzy Isodata) and FI (Fuzzy Isodata) algorithms are studied and applied to the tire tread pattern classification problem. GFI algorithm which repeatedly grouping the partitioned cluster depending on the fuzzy partition matrix is general form of GI algorithm. In the constructing the binary tree using GFI algorithm cluster validity, namely, whether partitioned cluster is feasible or not is checked and construction of the binary tree is obtained by FDH clustering algorithm. These algorithms show the good performance in selecting the prototypes of each patterns and classifying patterns. Directions of edge in the preprocessed image of tire tread pattern are selected as features of pattern. These features are thought to have useful information which well represents the characteristics of patterns.

  • This paper addresses the problem to make sparse the projection matrix in pattern recognition method. Recently, the size of computer program is often restricted in embedded systems. It is very often that developed programs include some constant data. For example, many pattern recognition programs use the projection matrix for dimension reduction. To improve the recognition performance, very high dimensional feature vectors are often extracted. In this case, the projection matrix can be very big. Recently, RSR(roated sparse regression) method[1] was proposed. This method has been proved one of the best algorithm that obtains the sparse matrix. We propose three methods to improve the RSR; outlier removal, sampling and elastic net RSR(E-RSR) in which the penalty term in RSR optimization function is replaced by that of the elastic net regression. The experimental results show that the proposed methods are very effective and improve the sparsity rate dramatically without sacrificing the recognition rate compared to the original RSR method.

  • A word cloud is a visualization of word frequency in a given text. The importance of each word is shown in font size or color. This plot is useful for quickly perceiving the most prominent words and for locating a word alphabetically to determine its relative prominence. With dynamic graphics, we can find the changing pattern of prominent words and their frequencies according to the changing selection of chapters in a given text. We can define the word frequency matrix. In this matrix, rows are chapters in text and columns are ranks corresponding to word frequency about the words in the text. We can draw the word frequency matrix plot with this matrix. Dynamic graphic can indicate the changing pattern of the word frequency matrix according to the changing selection of the range of ranks of words. We execute an English Bible text visualization using word clouds and dynamic graphics technology.

  • Understanding flow pattern of water and solute in subsurface is essential for the reduction and prevention of contamination of soil and groundwater and for the investigation and remediation of contaminated site. The objective of this study is to examine the infiltration pattern in a soil developed from the Jurassic granite using (Brilliant Blue FCF $C_{37}H_{34}N_{2}Na_{2}O_{9}S_{3}$), the nonfluorescent and nontoxic food dye. All image processing was conducted using geographic image processing software, ER Mapper, Version 6.2. The dye coverage was determined by counting the stained pixels in the photographs (80${\times}$80cm, 80TEX>${\times}$5cm) for the vertical and horizontal view. A homogeneous matrix flow occurred in the A horizon with weak, medium granular structure and fingering at the interface of finer-textured A horizon and coarser-textured C horizon. Pegmatitic vein originated from the granite and plant root in C horizon induced preferential flow.
