  • In this study, we have prepared pitch binded AC (activated carbon)/$AC/TiO_2$ composites photocatalysts through carbon tetrachloride solvent method. The developed samples were characterized with surface properties, structural crystallinity between AC and $AC/TiO_2$, elemental identification and photocatalytic activity. The results of the textural surface properties demonstrate that there are slight increases in the BET surface area and adsorbed volume from adsorption isotherm of composite samples with increasing of the amount of AC. The SEM results present to the characterization of porous texture on the pitch/AC/$AC/TiO_2$ composites and homogenous compositions in the particle for all the materials used. From XRD data, a weak and broad carbon peak of graphene remained rutile peaks kept with anatase structure were observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns for the pitch/AC/$AC/TiO_2$ composites. The EDX spectra show the presence of C, O and S with strong Ti peaks. Most of these samples are richer in carbon and major Ti metal than any other elements. Finally, the excellent photocatalytic activity of the pitch/AC/$AC/TiO_2$ composites between relative concentration ($c/c_o$) of MB and UV irradiation time could be attributed to the both effects between photocatalysis of the supported $AC/TiO_2$ and adsorptivity of the two kinds of carbons.

  • Flat-panel direct conversion detectors used in compound substance of semiconductor are being studied for digital x-ray imaging. Recently, such detectors are deposited by physical vapor deposition(PVD) generally. But, most of materials (HgI2, PbI2, TlBr, PbO) deposited by PVD have shown difficult fabrication and instability for large area x-ray imaging. Consequently, in this paper, we propose applicable potentialities for screen printing method that is coated on a substrate easily. It is compared to electrical properties among semiconductors such as $HgI_2$, $PbI_2$, PbO, HgBrI, InI, and $TlPbI_3$ under investigation for direct conversion detectors. Each film detector consists of an ~25 to $35\;{\mu}m$ thick layer of semiconductor and was coated onto the substrate. Substrates of $2cm{\times}2cm$ have been used to evaluate performance of semiconductor radiation detectors. Dark current, sensitivity and physics properties were measured. Leakage current of $HgI_2$ as low as $9pA/mm^2$ at the operation bias voltage of ${\sim}1V/{\mu}m$ was observed. Such a value is not better than PVD process, but it is easy to be fabricated in high quality for large area x-ray Imaging. Our future efforts will concentrate on optimization of growth of film thickness that is coated onto a-Si TFT array.

  • In this paper, the electric properties of mercury Iodide multi-layer samples has been investigated. We measured and analyzed their performance parameters such as the X-ray sensitivity and dark-current for a mercury Iodide multi-layer X-ray detector with a dielectric layer. The digital X-ray image detector can be constructed by integrating photoconduction multi-layer that dielectric layer has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity. However this process has found to have complexity on the performance of the sample. We have investigate dielectric layer that it substitute dielectric layer for HgO(Mercury Oxide). We have employed two approaches for producing the mercury Iodide sample : 1) Physical Vapor Deposition(PVD) and 2) Particle-In-Binder(PIB). In this paper fabricated by PIB Method with thicknesses ranging from approximately 180um to 240um and we could produce high-quality samples for each technique particular application. As results, the dielectric materials such as HgO between the dielectric layer and the top electrode may reduce the dark-current of the samples. Mercury Iodide multi-layer having HgO has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity and simple processing. So we can acquired a enhanced signal to noise ratio. In this paper offer the method can reduce the dark-current in the X-ray detector.

  • In this study, the performance of a honeycomb-type hydrogen oxidation catalyst to remove hydrogen in a hydrogen economy society to secure leaking hydrogen. The Pd/TiO2 catalyst was prepared based on a liquid phase reduction method that is not exposed to a heat source, and it was showed through H2-chemisorption analysis that it existed as very small active particles of 2~4 nm. In addition, it was found that the metal dispersion decreased and the active particle size increased as the reduction reaction temperature increased. It was meant that the active metal particle size and the hydrogen oxidation performance were in a proportional correlation, so that it was consistent with the hydrogen oxidation performance reduction result. The prepared catalyst was coated on a support in the form of a honeycomb so that it could be applied to the hydrogen industrial process. When 20 wt% or more of the AS-40 binder was coated, oxidation performance of 90% or more was observed under low-concentration hydrogen conditions. It was showed through SEM analysis that long-term catalytic activity can be expected by enhancing the adhesion strength of the catalyst and preventing catalyst desorption. It is a basic research that can secure safety in a hydrogen society such as gasification, organic resource, and it can be utilized as a system that can respond to unexpected safety accidents in the future.

  • Recently, low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology is widely used in sensors, actuators and microsystems fields because of its very good electrical and mechanical properties, high reliability and stability as well as possibility of making 3D micro structures. In this study, we investigated the effects of sputtering gas ratio and annealing temperature on the crystal structure of $Pb(ZrTi)O_3$ (PZT) thin films deposited on LTCC substrate. The LTCC substrate with thickness of $400\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated by laminating 4 green tapes which consist of alumina and glass particle in an organic binder. The PZT thin films were deposited on Pt / Ti / LTCC substrates by RF magnetron sputtering method. The results showed that the crystallization of the films were enhanced as increasing $O_2$ mixing ratio. At about 25% $O_2$ mixing ratio, was well crystallized in the perovskite structure. PZT thin films was annealed at various temperatures. When the annealing temperature is lower, the PZT thin films become a phyrochlore phase. However, when the annealing temperature is higher than $600^{\circ}C$, the PZT thin films become a perovskite phase. At the annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, perovskite PZT thin films with good quality structure was obtained.

  • This study examined the reliability and revision necessity of concrete standard specifications based on the comparisons with test data obtained by using domestic artificial lightweight aggregates and the contents specified in different foreign specifications including ACI 211.2, ACI 213, ACI 301, JASS 5 and CEB-FIP. To achieve the continuous particle distribution of domestic fine lightweight aggregates, the partial addition of natural sand with the maximum size of 2.5mm was required. To control the segregation and excessive bleeding in the fresh lightweight concrete, the current limitations on the water-to-binder ratio and unit water content need to be modified using lower values. In particular, a rational mixture proportion approach of lightweight concrete needs to be established for the targeted requirements of initial slump, 28-day compressive strength, air content and dry unit weight. Ultimately, significant revision of the concrete standard specifications is required considering the characteristics of domestic artificial lightweight aggregates.

  • Raw materials in steel industry decide on the productivity, quality and price competitiveness. Utilizing iron-containing by-products as raw materials for steel products can save the cost of cleaning up iron-containing by-products and solve environmental issues. Iron-containing by-products have a small particle size. If they are directly inserted in a steel making process, it cause a problem such as poor heat flow and scattering. To solve these problems and induce the additional reduction, study concern with iron ore-coal mixed briquette technique are conducted by many researchers. In this paper, method of making carbon composite briquette iron(CCBI) using iron-containing by-products was studied. The effect of composition of Fe-containing process wastes, reducing agent, flux and binder on formability of CCBI (carbon composite briquette iron) was measured.

  • This paper reports the results of an investigation into the effects of silica fume on strength properties of alkali-activated slag cement (AASC) with water-binder (W/B) ratio and replacement ratio of silica fume content. The W/B ratio varied between 0.50 and 0.60 at a constant increment of 0.05. The silica fume content varied from 0% to 50% by weight of slag. The activators was used sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and the dosage of activator was 3M. The strength development with W/B ratio has been studied at different ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28 days. For mixes of AASC mortars with varying silica fume content, the flow values were lower than the control mixes (without silica fume). The flow value was decrease as the content of silica fume increase. This is because the higher surface areas of silica fume particles increase the water requirement. The analysis of these results indicates that, increasing the silica fume content in AASC mortar also increased the compressive strength. Moreover, the strength decreases with the W/B ratios increases. This is because the particle sizes of silica fume are smaller than slag. The high compressive strength of blended slag-silica fume mortars was due to both the filler effect and the activated reaction of silica fume evidently giving the mortar matrix a denser microstructure, thereby resulting in a significant gain in strength.

  • Printed electronics using printing process has broadened in all respects such as electrics (lighting, batteries, solar cells etc) as well as electronics (OLED, LCD, E-paper, transistor etc). Copper is considered to be a promising alternative to silver for printed electronics, due to very high conductivity at a low price. However, Copper is easily oxidized, and its oxide is non-conductive. This is the highest hurdle for making copper inks, since the heat and humidity that occurs during ink making and printing simply accelerates the oxidation process. A variety of chemical treatments including organic capping agents and metallic coating have been used to slow this oxidation. We have established synthetic conditions of copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) which are resistant to oxidation and average diameter of 20 to 50nm. Specific resistivity should be less than $4\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ when sintered at lower temperature than $250^{\circ}C$ to be able to apply to conductive patterns of FPCBs using ink-jet printing. Through this study, the parameters to control average diameter of CuNPs were found to be the introduction of additive agent, the feeding rate of reducing agent, and reaction temperature. The CuNPs with various average diameters (58, 40, 26, 20nm) could be synthesized by controlling these parameters. The dispersed solution of CuNPs with an average size of 20 nm was made with nonpolar solvent containing 3 wt% of binder, and then coated onto glass substrate. After sintering the coated substrates at $250^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes in nitrogen atmosphere, metallic copper film resulted in a specific resistivity of $4.2\;{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Al addition on the reaction behavior of cobalt with molten zinc. Pure cobalt specimen was immersion tested in the three kinds of molten zinc (pure, 0.12%Al added and 0.24%Al added) baths at $460^{\circ}C,\;490^{\circ}C\;and\;520^{\circ}C$. For the understanding of degradation processes, specimens were analyzed with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrum (EDS), and electrochemical stripping method. When 0.12% and 0.24% Al was added in molten zinc baths, three intermetallic compounds layers of ${\gamma},\;{\gamma}_1,\;and\;{\gamma}_2$ were formed on the Co matrix and ${\beta}_1$ layer was not formed between the Co matrix and the ${\gamma}$ layer. Particles of CoAl intermetallic compound were formed at the interface between the ${\gamma}_2$ layer and zinc melt and they did not adhere to the Co-Zn intermetallic layer. Weight loss of the Co specimen increased as Al content in the molten zinc increased and the relationship of weight loss vs. immersion time followed parabolic rate law. Rate controlling process for the reaction rate of Co with Al added molten zinc was analyzed as the diffusion process of Al atom through a boundary layer between the ${\gamma}_2$ layer and the Al added zinc melt.
