이산화탄소의 성질 실험 장치 개선 방안 탐색 (A Study about Improvement of Experimentation on Carbon Dioxide Properties)

  • One of the problems with testing for the presence of $CO_2$ is that the results are not visible. In order to over-come this weak point, a new testing method was developed with BTB indicator equipment, that made the gas visible. After that, the experiment was performed and tested the effects of the new visible equipment. The visible equipment could be adapted to regular class use successfully. Also, it was effective in that it reduced waste of gas, minimized danger potential through use of $CO_2$ canisters and candle-sticks, and also increased knowledge about indicators. The new experimental method and equipment affected the students' interest. It is possible that the students' positive participation was due to their interest in the new apparatus and application of the visual senses. The new system was tested fer its effects on teaching content and helping to produce sustained memory of the content. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of content learning on initial content memory. However, when students in both groups were tested 4 months later, the visual experiment group sustained memory performance, while the other group showed a significant decrease. Generally, boys score higher than girls in terms of interest and participation in experimental activities. In this case, however, there were no difference between groups. It may have been due to introduction of new equipment and different methods from the textbooks. So, this could increase participation in science using various experiments.

보편적 학습 설계를 적용한 과학 수업의 학습 성과에 관한 구조적 관계 분석 (Analysis of the Structural Relationship among Learning Outcomes in Science Classes applying Universal Design for Learning)

  • The variety of learners include students with disabilities and general students, and an ongoing focus of inclusive education research is non-discrimination. As part of integrated education, UDL (Universal Design for Learning) for students with disabilities supports a practical approach, participation, and advancement to improve learning opportunities for all students. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using UDL in science classes. The dependent variables of this study were academic achievement in science, scientific attitude, and scientific motivation. In this study, the experimental groups were 9 people in the 5th grade and 11 people in 6th grade. The experimental groups were taught science class using UDL. In order to analyze the learning outcomes, the structure equation model was performed. The results of this study were as follows: First, the science achievement of learning outcomes of the science class applying UDL directly affected both scientific attitude and scientific motivation. Second, the scientific attitude of learning outcomes of the science class applying UDL directly did not affect scientific motivation. According to these results, learning outcomes for science achievement of the science class applying UDL showed that UDL affected both general students and students with disabilities. To summarize the analysis of learning outcomes, science achievement directly affected both scientific attitude and scientific motivation while scientific attitude did not affect scientific motivation. This study offered a specific implementation method for integrated education. Using the structure equation model for analyzing the effect has more significance.

일부 치위생학과 캡스톤 디자인 기반의 임상치위생학 수업 경험에 관한 질적 연구: 성찰일지 분석을 중심으로 (Qualitative evaluation of dental hygiene students following the application of the Capstone Design in dental hygiene theory and practice)

  • Background: In this study, the Capstone Design was applied to the clinical dental hygiene course of the Department of Dental Hygiene, and its effect was confirmed by qualitatively evaluating the students' reflection on the capstone design class experience. Methods: This study was conducted for the "Clinical Dental Hygiene and Practice III" course, in which third year students develop the ability to judge and plan dental hygiene based on problem-solving ability and critical thinking. By applying the Capstone Design within the core curriculum of the class, the students analyzed problems based on their major knowledge of dental hygiene in order to improve their ability to manipulate periodontal instruments, and focusedon the process of developing the contents of periodontal instruments by using them. Results: The application of Capstone Design on clinical dental hygiene and practice III classes increased students' active class participation, and through the problem-solving process, students' learning and confidence improved. Conclusion: The Capstone Design can be viewed as a teaching method that promotes the participation of students in the dental hygiene department and can effectively help their learning and confidence through a problem-solving process.

과학 문제 해결력 촉진을 위한 사례 기반 학습 프로그램의 효과 (The Effect of Case-based Learning Program for Scientific Problem Solving)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of case-based learning program on three elementary students' scientific problem solving and attitudes in science class. For this study, case-based learning program was designed for bridging students' scientific knowledge and their personal experiences in real life through 4 stages: understanding the problem, planning for problem solving, conducting problem solving, and making conclusion. This study was carried out through 17 lessons of 4th grade for 6 weeks. The data was collected through close observation on three students in two groups in a class. The results include that cased-based learning program showed overall positive effects on the elementary students' scientific problem solving and attitudes in class. In particular, it turned out that the continuous emphasis of real world examples in case-based learning had powerful impacts on students' problem solving abtsity, motivation, and participation in classroom activities. The key factors to successful problem solving in school science was discussed.

초등과학 수업에서 과학교육마술 프로그램의 개발 및 적용에 따른 효과 (Development of Educational Science Magic Program in Elementary Science Education and Effects of its Application)

  • 이 연구는 과학교육마술 프로그램을 개발하고 실제 교수-학습 과정에 적용함으로써 과학교육마술 프로그램 활용 수업이 초등학생의 창의적 문제해결력, 과학탐구능력, 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향과 과학교육마술 프로그램 활용 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 이 연구를 위해 경기도 수원시에 위치한 J초등학교 3학년 2개 학급 60명을 대상으로 비교반(30명)과 실험반(30명)을 선정하였고, 비교반은 교과서 중심의 수업 방법을 적용하였으며 실험반은 과학교육마술 프로그램을 활용하여 수업을 진행하였다. 실험처치 후, 실험반과 비교반을 대상으로 각 영역에 대한 검사를 실시하여 과학교육마술 프로그램이 창의적 문제해결력, 과학탐구능력, 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향과 과학교육마술 프로그램 활용 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 알아보았다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학교육마술 프로그램을 적용한 실험반 학생들의 창의적 문제해결력의 변화에 있어서 비교반 학생들에 비해 통계적으로 유의한 향상을 보였다(p<.05). 둘째, 과학교육마술 프로그램을 적용한 실험반 학생들의 과학탐구능력 점수는 비교반 학생들에 비해 향상되었으나 통계적으로 유의한 수준은 아니었다. 그러나 기초탐구과정의 하위 영역 중 '측정'에서 유의한 차이를 나타냈으며, 과학교육마술 프로그램 활용 수업은 측정 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 셋째, 실험반 학생들의 과학적 태도 점수는 비교반 학생들에 비해 향상되었으나 통계적으로 유의한 수준은 아니었다. 그러나 과학적 태도의 하위 영역 중 '끈기성'에서 유의한 차이를 나타냈으며, 과학교육마술 프로그램 활용 수업은 끈기성에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있다. 넷째, 설문 분석 결과 '과학교육마술 수업으로 과학 수업이 즐거웠다'(100%), '과학교육마술 수업을 할 때 수업에 더 열심히 참여하였다'(87%), '과학교육마술 프로그램이 수업 내용을 이해하는 데 도움이 되었다'(93%), '과학교육마술 수업을 하면서 과학에 대한 흥미와 관심이 많아졌다'(90%), '앞으로도 과학교육마술 수업을 계속 했으면 좋겠다'(100%)라는 의견은 과학교육마술 프로그램이 학생들의 과학에 대한 관심 및 흥미 증가, 수업 참여도 향상, 학습 내용의 이해, 과학 수업에서의 즐거움 증가 등 인지적, 정의적 영역에 골고루 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 이 연구에서 적용한 과학교육마술 프로그램은 창의적 문제해결력 및 과학에 대한 흥미와 관심, 학습 내용의 이해도, 과학수업에서의 즐거움, 수업 참여도 등을 향상시킬 수 있다는 측면에서 초등 과학 현장에 활용할 가치가 있음을 알 수 있다.

STEAM 수업에서 나타난 초등학생의 창의적 설계 과정 질적 분석 (Qualitative Analysis of the Creative Design Process of Elementary School Students in STEAM Class)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the character of the creative design processes that appear at the creative design stage of the design thinking based on STEAM class and what factors affect the creative design process. Students who served as the subjects of this study were 4 elementary school students. We developed the design thinking based on STEAM program to look more specific the creative design process. The project was conducted with a total of 12 sheets of paper materials. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the problem solving process of the design thinking based on STEAM classes is not anticipatory and is cyclical and complex. So, teachers should provide sufficient time for students to create and simulate ideas and accept the solving problems through trial and error. Second, Having presented the STEAM class as a practical problem in the real world, there was less fear of students' failure and heightened motivation and enthusiasm. Providing with the real topic and open questions in classrooms can lead to students' voluntary participation in the classroom. Third, In the design thinking based on STEAM class, students develop concrete ideas through visualization courses. The group of students made the best solutions through communication.

Korean Participation in All-sky Infrared Spectro-Photomeric Survey Mission, SPHEREx

  • Since the high throughput for diffuse objects and the wide-area survey even with a small telescope can be achieved in space, infrared (IR) obervations have been tried through small missions in Korea. Based upon the previous technical development for infrared spectro-photometric instrument, NISS (Near-infrared Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history) onboard NEXTSat-1, we participated in the all-sky infrared spectro-photometric survey mission, SPHEREx. The SPEHREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer) was selected as the NASA MIDEX (Medium-class Explorer) mission (PI Institute: Caltech) in this February. As an international partner, KASI will take part in the hardware development, the operation and the science for the SPHEREx. The SPHEREx will perform the first all-sky infrared spectro-photometric survey to probe the origin of our Universe, to explore the origin and evolution of galaxies, and to explore whether planets around other stars could harbor life. For the purpose of the all-sky survey, the SPHEREx is designed to have a wide FoV of 3.5 × 11.3 deg. as well as wide spectral range from 0.75 to 5.0㎛. Here, we report the status of the SPHEREx project and the progress in the Korean participation.

협동학습이 여중생들의 과학 선호도에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Cooperative Learning on the Scientific Preferences of Middle School Girls)

  • 본 연구는 김제시 1개 중학교 2학년 여학생 5개반을 연구 대상으로 협동학습 실시 전 과학 선호도에 대한 사전 검사를 실시하였다. 약 10주간의 실험 처치를 한 후 사전 검사와 동일한 검사지로 사후 검사를 실시한 결과 여중생들의 과학적 선호도에 긍정적인 효과가 나타났다. 과학 수업에 대한 인식과 과학 수업에 대한 참여도가 협동학습 전과 달리 긍정적인 변화를 보였다. 그러나 과학자들에 대한 인식이나 과학적으로 사고하거나 행동하는 습관을 나타내는 과학적 태도는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 이는 10주 동안의 기간은 협동학습 전략을 효과적으로 시행하는데 충분하지 못한 것으로 생각된다. 협동학습에 대한 학생들의 의견 조사서에서 중위 수준 학생들은 상-하위 수준 학생들과 달리 협동학습에 대해 강한 긍정을 나타냈다. 협동학습을 통해 상위 수준 학생들에게 배우고, 하위 수준 학생들에게 나누는 모둠 활동에서 자신감을 얻고 흥미를 느낀 것으로 본다.

일반유아교사와 장애전담교사 간 협력교수 유형 적용을 통한 역할인식 (A Study of Teachers' Role Perception of Cooperation Teaching between General Education Teachers and Special Education Teachers for Handicapped Children)

  • This study was conducted in an inclusion class in M Inclusion Day Care Center in Busan. Thirteen sessions of cooperation teaching were applied in the inclusion class. In this sense, the purpose of this study was to identify what kinds of change occurred in the perspectives of teachers' role on both the general education teacher and the special education teacher during cooperation teaching. The data were collected through participation observations, teachers' reflective journals, and interviews. From the results of the study, it could be suggested that various types of teaching strategies need to be introduced to both teachers from the beginning of inclusion so that the general teacher and the special education teacher could understand each others roles and tasks, share opinions and ideas about daily activities, and experience the roles of the other teacher.

과학 관련 태도 측면에서 본 과학 교수 학습 방법별 교육 효과 (The Effect of Science Teaching and Learning Methods from the Perspectives of the Science-Related Attitude)

  • In this study, we summarized and analyzed domestic research papers including science-related attitude in science education over the past 30 years, mainly teaching & learning methods. We reviewed 240 papers of experimental design in Journal of the Korean Association for Research in Science Education and Journal of Korean Elementary Science Education until the last volume of 2014 with results of statistical significance. The results are that students preferred group compensation rather than individual compensation. Also, students' active participation in class activities were effective in promoting students' science-related attitude. On the other hand, students' attitudes related to science did not show significant effectiveness in science class focusing on conceptual understanding. The results of this study regarding the positive or negative influence of teaching & learning methods in science will be expected to be useful when science teacher makes a selection the proper teaching methods.
