  • Variable selection algorithm for partial least square regression using penalty function is proposed. We use the fact that usual partial least square regression problem can be expressed as a maximization problem with appropriate constraints and we will add penalty function to this maximization problem. Then simulated annealing algorithm can be used in searching for optimal solutions of above maximization problem with penalty functions added. The HARD penalty function would be suggested as the best in several aspects. Illustrations with real and simulated examples are provided.

  • Objective : To determine the relationship between the clinical outcome and the extent of surgical laminectomy for adequate decompression on the cases of cauda equina syndrome, the authors review and analyze their cases and compared with those of literatures. Methods : The authors reviewed 655 patients retrospectively who had underwent surgery on the cases of lumbar disc herniation from January 2000 to December 2004. There were 19 patients [2.9%] who presented for clinical cauda equina syndrome. Among them, we selected and analyzed 15 patients who were treated by unilateral partial hemilaminectomy with discectomy or bilateral partial laminectomy with discectomy, and they had been followed from 5 weeks to 47 months postoperatively [mean, 13.47 months]. The levels of the disc herniations were L4-5 in 8 patients, following L5-S1 in 4 patients and 2 levels [L4-5 and L5-S1] in 3 patients. Motor and sensory recoveries were recorded. Postoperative urinary function recovery Was defined according to Gleave and Macfarlane. Results : In 12 months postoperatively, the bladder function was obtained in 14 of 15 patients[93%] with regaining urinary continence. Thirteen of 15 patients[86%] with preoperative motor weakness of lower extremities were recovered. Sensory deficit of lower extremities, perianal and saddle anesthesia were all recovered. Patients had recovered on lumbosciatic pain and saddle hypesthesia, in turn, motor function and urinary incontinence. Conclusion : In treating cauda equina syndrome, the authors did less extensive surgery, such as unilateral partial hemilaminectomy with discectomy or bilateral partial laminectomy with discectomy for adequate decompression. The outcome is satisfactory and comparable with those of subtotal or total laminectomy.

  • Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR) using microwave bands, including broadband spectrum that occurs at the range of rates that start between partial discharge position it easier to make the techniques that could be measured. Partial discharge in the Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS), the dielectric constant in the band more than GHz different the insulating material if you want to organize, and the insulating material regardless of how partial discharge position in the SF6 gas Partial Discharge by applying the heritability estimated its position, but the position error occurred about 23 percent of the existing way, correct in not suitable location tracking the outbreak PD. This technique the rate of other dielectric that make up the power apparatus heterology is measured at the function to slow the progression of the electromagnetic waves apart by calculating the partial discharge as the location, A simple way to track. Dielectric using other methods proposed new structure can calculate the speed of heritability PD is occurring can measure.

  • An extended Jacobin elliptic function method is presented for constructing exact travelling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations(PDEs) in a unified way. The main idea of this method is to take full advantage of the elliptic equation that Jacobin elliptic functions satisfy and use its solutions to replace Jacobin elliptic functions in Jacobin elliptic function method. It is interesting that many other methods are special cases of our method. Some illustrative equations are investigated by this means.

  • We give a constructive proof that a (partial) evaluation of a multivariate algebraic function with algebraic numbers is again an algebraic function. Especially, we obtain a bound on the degree of an evaluation with the degrees of the original algebraic function and the algebraic numbers evaluated. Furthermore, we show that our bound is sharp with an example.

  • In the object inheritance of SR DEVS, partial or overall asset inheritance can be possible. To a asset inherited from parent object, by respective dedicated function a child object can implement partial or whole asset, or not. Even though a child has a inherited asset, if the asset is the hidden property its implementation will not be provided. A inherited asset cannot be showed in whole asset implementation, or it can be implemented by special system state. Here, the whole asset implementation means may include time parameter. In this paper, we describe a determination probability scheme for partial or whole asset inherited from the parent object to determine the hidden inheritance. By the determination probability function it is decided that the inherited asset will be hidden or normal asset.

  • Daily milk yields on test days were estimated using morning or afternoon partial milk yields collected by official agencies and the accuracy of the estimates was determined. Test-day data for milk yields consisted of 3,156,734 records of AM/PM partial milking measurements of 255,437 milking Holstein cows from 3,708 farms collected from December 2008 to April 2013. A linear regression model (LRM) was applied to estimate daily milk yields using alternate AM/PM milk yield records within lactation stages, milking intervals, and parities on every daily milk yield. The alternate statistical approach was a non-linear hierarchical model (NHM) in which Brody's growth function was implemented by reflecting an animal's physiological milk production cycle. When compared with LRM, daily milk yields predicted by the NHM were assumed to be functionally related to day in milk (or lactation) stage, milking intervals, and partial milk yields. Since the results were in terms of accuracies based on comparisons of different statistical models, accuracies of estimates of daily milk yields by NHM were close to those determined by the LRM. The average of these accuracies was 0.94 for AM partial milk yields and 0.93 for PM partial milk yields for first calving cows. However, the accuracies of AM/PM milk yield estimations from cows under a calving stage higher than the first parity were 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. Correlations between the estimated daily milk yields and the actual daily milk yields ranged from 0.96~0.98. These accuracies were lower for unbalanced AM/PM milking intervals and the first calving cows. Overall, prediction of daily milk yields by NHM would be more appropriate than by LRM due to its flexibility under different milk yield-related circumstances, which provides an idea of the functional relationship between milking intervals and days in milk with daily milk yields from statistical viewpoints.

  • Removable partial denture for oral function recovery of partial edentulous patients is a complicated treatment because the dentist should consider both hard tissue and soft tissue. Removable partial denture produced without consideration of precise design for each component and rotation of denture may cause fracture, deformation or loss of abutment teeth. In case of failure to achieve a proper denture, the reason of failure should be analyzed and the result must be applied to later RPD cases. Finding the solutions through the failed denture cases will help patients use their dentures more comfortably and keep their sound residual teeth and tissue longer.
