  • Generally fairytales are recognized as very effective educational materials. However, some of them includes negative prejudices on stepparents, especially stepmother. These contents are very harmful to development and adjustment of children in remarried families. Moreover, not so many studies have been done that even the results were insufficient to not only practical but also academical needs. Therefore this study purposed to investigate the parent -and stepparent- figures perceived by children with the knowledge about the related fairytales. Specific research problems are as follows; 1. How many children do know the contents of the 4 related fairytales such as Snow Whit, Sindellera, Kongjui Patjui and Changwha Honglyun? 2. What are the parent -figures perceived by the children with the knowledge about the 4 traditional fairytales? 3. What are the stepparent- figures of the subjects? 4. Is the children's sex the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 5. Is the children's age the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 6. Is the their parents' educational level the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 175 boys and girls of age -9 and- 11 were selected from 2 primary schools in Seoul. All of them were from normal families. As the steadyselling books, 18 fairytales were chosen by 7 booksellers of large scale bookstores in Seoul. And then by 10 teachers and 10 literay persons, 4 Korean and foreign traditional fairytales were seleced at last. The questionaire of 5 subareas was developed and used as the research tools, in which include 40 items. SPSS/pc program were used for data analysis for frequency, percentile, mean, and t-test. The followings are the findings with cronbach α=.80 and .94 parent -and stepparent- figures respectively. 1)The contents of the 4 tradional fairytales were read already or wellknown, even if the children who didn't. 2)The subjects showed very positive their own parent-figures such as sweet, lovely, reliable, and true or good person. 3)The subjects showed very negative stepparent-figures in contrast. 4)They showed significant sex difference(p<0.5) in their own parent-figures. And girls were more positive than boys who were a little more positive(on insignifficant level) than girls in stepmother-figures. 5)All the subjects had positive parent-figures and negative stepparent-figures. 6)Their parents education level was no significant variable in the prediction of their parent -and stepparent- figures.

A total of 329 papers were searched, and 7 papers were finally selected based on the selection criteria and the exclusion criteria. Power point(PPT), leaflet, brochure and text messages were used as method for program education and among which, PPT were used the most. As a result of education program effect, it is found that parent's knowledge on HPV and intention for preventive inoculation became increased and rate of actual inoculation indeed higher. This analysis indicates there is a big need for cervical cancer preventive education program developing for parents in Korea and accordingly, various study for programs are expected to be performed.

  • This study reviews facts and trends of harmful environments in the last decade that negatively affected children's development. Younger children have been exposed to harmful media, drugs, facilities, and objects. A matter of chemical substances contaminating in-door air has become quite controversial, recently. In order to provide a better understanding of harmful environments against children, there are great needs for a survey covering all ages based on the clear definition of the term harmful environments, research identifying its causal effects on child development in the context of both parent-child and peer relationships, and a longitudinal study processing its effects in a life-span perspective. It is suggested that by providing parent education and a plenty of cultural facilities as social efforts to create sound family culture, psycho-social and physical environments of children are improved. Furthermore, legal regulations and supervision on harmful environments are needed to be strengthened.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the evaluation of nutrition and exercise education program on weight control for obese children. The subjects of this study were 28 obese children and their parents living in Geyongnam area. The weight control program consisted of exercises for children and nutrition education for both children and their parents. The BMI values of the children were significantly reduced from $27.96\;kg/m^2$ to $27.22\;kg/m^2$ after 11 weeks (p < 0.001) and to $27.65\;kg/m^2$ after one year. Dietary habits and exercise patterns were also changed positively. For the children, while the frequency of eating breakfast and appropriate chewing habits were increased, the percentages of eating in inappropriate position and the frequency of buying snacks were decreased (p < 0.001). In terms of exercise, the proportion of doing exercise more than 30 minutes, participating in physical activity classes actively, and walking rather than taking a car were significantly increased. Nutrition knowledge of both the student and parent respondents were significantly increased when measured immediately after the education and even a year after compared to their knowledge status measured before the program (p < 0.001). Both the students (82.1%) and parents (96.4%) were satisfied with the overall weight control program. Exercise therapy was chosen as the most beneficial content. Reparticipation intention was comparable between the students (28.6%) and their parents (67.9%). A year after survey results revealed that 71.4% of students controlled their weight by doing regular exercises (55.0%) and controlling overeating (45%). Parents often applied healthy cooking methods (89.3%) and low calorie menus (64.3%), which they learned from nutrition education. Most parents perceived that the weight control program was helpful for their children (89.3%) and themselves (92.9%) as well.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the actor and partner effects of the parental sex-role attitude on the parent-child relationship by using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). Specifically, this study focused on the examination of the actor and partner effects of the parental sex-role attitude in married couples with immigrant women who have children under 5 years old. For the analyses, a total of 5,531 couples who participated in the National Survey on Multi-cultural Families were included and the major findings are as follows. First, the couple's sex-role attitude had a statistically significant actor effect on the parent-child relationship. Parents who were more conscious of gender equality displayed a better parent-child relationship and this effect was greater in the case of the father's attitude than the mother's. Second, the father's sex-role attitude had a statistically significant partner effect on the mother-child relationship, whereas the mother's attitude did not. Third, the couple's actor effects were greater than their partner effects and this means that the personal sex-role attitude has a greater impact on the parent-child relationship than the partners' attitude. The implication and limitations derived from these empirical-scientific database results and related studies in educational program of gender equality attitude for multi-cultural families.

The results will be the basic data of future policy and education program for hospital infection prevention. Methods: A descriptive survey design was utilized, The subjects included 151 caregivers from a university hospital in Gyeongnam Province, Korea. The data was collected using a self-reported questionnaire which included 17 items for knowledge, 18 items for practice, developed by researchers from March 2005 to January 2006. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA using SPSS program. Results: The mean score of knowledge on infection prevention was .87 of 1 (especially low in method of hand washing item), and practice, 2.60 of 3 (especially low in protection from other people items). There were differences in practice by admission frequency (F=2.83, p = .04), but there were no differences in knowledge by any general characteristics. Conclusion: The degree of knowledge and practice on caregiver's infection prevention was not enough to prevent hospital infection of hospitalized children. Therefore, effective strategies should be developed to prevent hospital infection of hospitalized children.
