Purpose: This study was done to develop a children's sex education program for the parents of lower elementary grade students and to evaluate its effects on sexual knowledge, gender role attitude, parent efficacy for child's sex education, and marital consistency. Methods: A quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants were 29 couples (58 parents, experimental group=28, control group=30) from G city. The 5-week (5-session) program was developed based on 'A theory of protection: parents as sex educators' and used the case-based small group learning method. Data were collected during July and August 2015. The characteristics of the program developed in the present study were a theoretical-based, client-centered, multi-method. Results: After the intervention, the experimental group showed a significant improvement in sexual knowledge, gender role attitudes, parent efficacy for child's sex education, and marital consistency, compared to the control group. The effect sizes of the program were .64 (knowledge), .65 (gender role attitudes), and .68 (parent efficacy). Conclusion: The results of this study provided implications for the parents as effective sex educator and the role expansion of school health nurses.
The purpose of the present study was to examine how dimensions of socialization practice and relationship quality may function to manage or increase parent-adolescent conflict. Of particular concern was to examine the comparative efficacy of potential predictors of parent-adolescent conflict across three cultural groups consisting of samples from Mainland China, Russia, and the U.S. as well as across gender-of-parent/gender-of-adolescent dyads from each culture. Findings from a sample of 1,365 adolescents indicated that adolescents' perceptions of parental influences on parent-adolescent conflict differ across cultural groups and gender-of-adolescent. The use of punitive behavior by parents was the strongest and most consistent predictor of parent-adolescent conflict across all cultural groups and gender dyads, suggesting that a general pattern exists for punitiveness to increase parent-adolescent conflict cross-culturally. Perceptions of support, monitoring, conformity to parents, and autonomy from parents influenced parent-adolescent conflict within some of the cultures and selectively for adolescent boys and girls.
The purpose of this study is to develop cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) to improve the parenting efficacy of married immigrant women, and verify its effectiveness. In the CBT of this study, behavioral technique was added to cognitive reconstruction based on cultural context in order to improve parenting efficacy. The study selected 28 married immigrant women, and randomly divided them into a CBT group(10), a general treatment group(8) and a control group(10). The CBT and the general treatment programs consisted of 10 sessions, approximately 2 hours in duration. The results of the study were as follows. 1) The level of parenting efficacy was improved significantly in the CBT and the general treatment group. 2) The level of negative automatic thoughts and dysfunctional parenting thoughts was significantly decreased only in the CBT group. 3) In the CBT and the general treatment group, the level of parenting stress and acculturative stress was decreased while the level of psychological well-being improved. On the other hand, the level of parent-adolescent communication was improved significantly only in the CBT group. 4) In comparison with the general treatment group, the CBT group showed higher parenting efficacy and lower automatic thoughts and dysfunctional parenting thoughts. This study has significance in its attempt to develop a parent training program to improve the parenting efficacy of married immigrant women by integrating behavioral modification and communication skills training focused on cognitive reconstruction of parenting-related negative thoughts and beliefs in application of the CBT paradigm.
This study examines adolescent delinquent behavior and the influence of friends, focusing specifically on friends' delinquent behavior and the influence of self-efficacy, parent-child conflict and parental control. A total of 1,399 adolescents attending five different high schools (male=642, female=756, consisting of 915 student attending high school and 484 students attending vocational high school) completed a questionnaire developed by Ahn, Hwang, Kim and Park (1997) and Bandura's (1995a) self-efficacy scale. Results indicate that those students who attend high school had parents with higher education, socio-economic status and better studying environment at home, while students attending vocational high school had higher parent-child conflict. Students attending high school had higher self-efficacy scores, while students attending vocational high school had higher scores on delinquent behavior. The results of LISREL analyses revealed a similar pattern for high school and vocational high school students. Combined analysis indicate that friends' delinquent behavior, parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on students' delinquency behavior. Self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of delinquency behavior. Similar pattern was obtained for friends' delinquency behavior, in which self-efficacy had a direct and negative influence of their delinquency behavior and their parent-child conflict and parental control had direct and positive effect on their delinquency behavior. In summary, those students who had lower self-efficacy, higher parent-child conflict and parental control, and with friends who are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, had higher scores on delinquent behavior. Also, those students who had friends with lower self-efficacy scores and with higher parent-child conflict and parental control are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior, which in turn influenced their delinquent behavior. Friends' delinquent behavior had the greatest influence on students' delinquent behavior indicating the role of friends in influencing delinquency among adolescents.

The purpose of this study is to explore the structural relationships among parents' educational involvement and parental efficacy on students' school life satisfaction and school achievement and to determine whether there are any differences depending on family type and school level. Using data from 2,497 families that participated in the 2018 National Survey on Children's Life, t-tests and structural equation modeling were conducted. The results of this study demonstrated that two-parent families reported higher levels of educational involvement than single-parent families and custodial grandparent families. Also, two-parent families raising children in elementary schools showed higher educational involvement than two-parent families raising children attending middle schools. Second, parental efficacy was found to mediate the effects of parents' educational involvement on students' school life satisfaction and school achievement. Third, the path coefficients between parents' educational involvement, students' school life satisfaction, and school achievement showed statistically significant differences depending on family type, with two-parent families having greater involvement than single-parent families and custodial grandparent families. Fourth, multiple group analysis reported a statistically significant difference in the relationship between parents' educational involvement and school achievement as well as parental efficacy and school achievement depending on the school level.

Results of this study are as follows; First, Nearly half of adolescent single-parent has economic hardship in original family and most they lived with preschool children on unemployed state that the average monthly income of them was about 600,000 won. It means that their financial independence difficult. Second, family support was only significant factor for parenting efficacy and positive relationship with family and acquaintances was major influence factor for causing positive parental behavior of adolescent single-parent. As a result, social network was verified more important factor than social exclusion on parental attitude and behavior. Lastly, public support for single-parent family was confirmed as social mitigation mechanism that has the moderating effect of social exclusion and social network on parental attitude and behavior.

Objective: This study used a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program developed for mothers of toddlers. Methods: A total of 40 mothers were assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 20) and a waiting group (n = 20). Mothers in the intervention group participated in six weekly sessions of the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the preand post-test in terms of mothers' parenting characteristics (i.e., parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy, and parenting stress) and toddlers' social and emotional characteristics were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group showed significant improvement in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy and decreased parenting stress, whereas mothers in the waiting group did not show any significant differences between pre- and post-test scores. Mothers in the intervention group also reported a significant improvement in their toddlers' level of imitation/play. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in both mothers' and toddlers' characteristics, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of children.
The present study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of a teacher education program for child care teachers. Twenty-seven teachers were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups with 12 and 17 teachers in each group. Teachers in the intervention group participated in the program. After termination of the program, differences between pre- and post-tests were examined in regards to teachers' emotional regulation, efficacy, parent-teacher communication and job satisfaction. There were four major findings. First, self-reported teachers'emotional regulation, teachers'efficacy and job satisfaction were significantly improved in the intervention group, but not in the control group. Second, parent-teacher communication difficulty was significantly reduced in the intervention group, but not in the control group. These findings emphasize the importance of the teachers' positive characteristics in improving the outcome of preschoolers.
