  • As the time-to-market gets more important for competitiveness of an enterprise in manufacturing industry, it becomes important to shorten the development cycle of a product. Reuse of existing design models and e-Catalog for components are required for faster product development. To achieve this goal, an electric catalog must provide parametric CAD models since parametric information is indispensable for configuration design. There are difficulties in building up a parametric library of all the necessary combination using a CAD system, since we have too many combinations of components for a product. For example, there are at least 80 million combinations of components on one page of paper catalog of a mold base. To solve this problem, we propose the method of table parametric for the automatic generation of parametric CAD models. Any combination of mold base can be generated by mapping between a classification system of an electric catalog and the design parameters set of the table parametric. We propose how to select parametric models and to construct the design parameters set.

  • This paper has an intention of proposing useful parametric tables of each industry group within Korea. These parametric tables can be insightful criteria for those who are dealing with the exact valuation of company, technology or industry through Real Option Analysis (ROA) since the identification of the movement of underlying asset is the very first step to be done. To give the exact estimations of parameters and the most preferred model in each industry group, we cover topics on ROA, stochastic process, and parametric estimation method like Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) and Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE). Additionally, specific industry groups, such as, Internet service group and mobile telecommunication service group defined independently in this paper are also examined in terms of its property of movement with the suggesting of the most fitting stochastic model.

  • In this paper we discuss some cautionary notes in using the Pearson chi-squared test statistic for the goodness-of-fit of the ordinal response model. If a model includes continuous type explanatory variables, the resulting table from the t of a model is not a regular one in the sense that the cell boundaries are not fixed but randomly determined by some other criteria. The chi-squared statistic from this kind of table does not have a limiting chi-square distribution in general and we need to be very cautious of the use of a chi-squared type goodness-of-t test. We also study the limiting distribution of the chi-squared type statistic for testing the goodness-of-t of cumulative logit models with ordinal responses. The regularity conditions necessary to the limiting distribution will be reformulated in the framework of the cumulative logit model by modifying those of Moore and Spruill (1975). Due to the complex limiting distribution, a parametric bootstrap testing procedure is a good alternative and we explained the suggested method through a practical example of an ordinal response dataset.

  • In this paper, the radial error of a rotary table at five-axis machine tool is evaluated by utilizing ISO 230-2 and estimation method using double ball-bar. The geometric error of a rotary table is defined as position dependent geometric errors or position independent geometric errors according to their physical character. Then estimation method of geometric errors using double ball-bar is simply summarized including measurement path, parametric modeling and least squares approach. To estimate representative radial error, offset error, set-up error which affect to the double ball-bar data, mean value of measured data including CCW/CW-direction are used at estimation process. Radial errors are separated from measured data and used for evaluation with ISO 230-2. Finally, suggested evaluation method is applied to a rotary table at five-axis machine tool and its result is analyzed to improve the accuracy of the rotary table.

  • This study was carried out to suggest the best statistical test which may be used to quantify the change of water quality between two groups. Traditional t-test may not be used in cases where the normality of underlying population distribution is not assured. Three non-parametric tests which are based on the relative order of the measurements, were studied to find out the applicability in water quality data analysis. The sign test is based on the sign of the deviation of the measurement from the median value, and the binomial distribution table is used. The signed rank test utilizes not only the sign but also the magnitude of the deviation. The Wilcoxon rank-sum test which is basically same as Mann-Whitney test, tests the mean difference between two independent samples which may have missing data. Among the three non-parametric tests studied, the singed rank test was found out to be applicable in the quantification of the change of water quality between two samples.

  • This paper conducts a parametric study of a new tuned mass damper with pre-strained superelastic SMA helical springs (SMAS-TMD) on the vibration reduction effect. First, a force-displacement relation model of superelastic SMA helical spring is presented based on the multilinear constitutive model of SMA material, and the tension tests of the six SMA springs fabricated are implemented to validate the mechanical model. Then, a dynamic model of a single floor steel frame with the SMAS-TMD damper is set up to simulate the seismic responses of the frame, which are testified by the shaking table tests. The wire diameter, initial coil diameter, number of coils and pre-strain length of SMA springs are extracted to investigate their influences on the seismic response reduction of the frame. The numerical and experimental results show that, under different earthquakes, when the wire diameter, initial coil diameter and number of coils are set to the appropriate values so that the initial elastic stiffness of the SMA spring is between 0.37 and 0.58 times of classic TMD stiffness, the maximum reduction ratios of the proposed damper can reach 40% as the mass ratio is 2.34%. Meanwhile, when the pre-strain length of SMA spring is in a suitable range, the SMAS-TMD damper can also achieve very good vibration reduction performance. The vibration reduction performance of the SMAS-TMD damper is generally equal to or better than that of the classic optimal TMD, and the proposed damper effectively suppresses the detuning phenomena that often occurs in the classic TMD.

  • Numerical analysis using a three dimensional finite element program(ABAQUS) is a powerful method which can evaluate the soil-pile-structure interaction under the dynamic loading and reduce the computation time significantly, but has not be widely used because modeling a soil-pile system and setting the parameter for the entire model are difficult and a three dimensional finite element program is not user friendly. However, a three dimensional finite element program is expected to be widely used because of advance in research of modeling technique and development of the modeling and visualization. In this study, ABAQUS is used to simulate the 1g shaking table model pile test, and the numerical results are compared with the 1g shaking table test results. The application about the soil stiffness and boundary condition change is estimated and then parametric study for various input acceleration amplitudes, various input frequencies, and various surcharge is carried out.

  • The collision-free path planning presented here uses linear parametric curve with one intermediate connection point between start and target points. The algorithm, in which connection point is organized in elliptic chord.(.theta., .delta.), maps objects in Euclidean Space into images in CPS through intersection check between path and obstacles a process defined as GM. Elliptic locus has special property that the total distance between focus points through a point on ellipse is the same regardless of .theta.. Hence by locating the start and target points to focus points of ellipse, and organizing connection point in elliptic coordinate, the .delta.-axis of CPS represents length of path. The GM of EWS requires calculation of interference in circumferential direction only. The procedures for GM is developed which include categorization of obstacles to reduce calculation amount. Simulations of GM of EWS, on a PC with Pentium/90MHz, is carried out to measure performance of algorithm and the results are reported on a table. The simulations are done for number of cases with different number of obstacles and location of start/target points.
