The piezoelectric actuating device is known for its large power density and simple structure. It can generate a larger force than a conventional actuator and has also wide bandwidth with fast response in a compact size. To control the piezoelectric actuator, we need an analog signal conditioning circuit as well as digital microcontrollers. Conventional microcontrollers are not equipped with an analog part and need digital-to-analog converters, which makes the system bulky compared with the small size of piezoelectric devices. To overcome these weaknesses, we are developing a single-chip controller that can handle analog and digital signals simultaneously using mixed-signal FPGA technology. This gives more flexibility than traditional fixed-function microcontrollers, and the control speed can be increased greatly due to the parallel processing characteristics of the FPGA. In this paper, we developed a floating-point multiplier, PWM generator, 80-kHz power control loop, and 1-kHz position feedback control loop using a single mixed-signal FPGA. It takes only 50 ns for single floating-point multiplication. The PWM generator gives two outputs to control the charging and discharging of the high-voltage output capacitor. Through experimentation and simulation, it is demonstrated that the designed control loops work properly in a real environment.

This paper proposes the design of a 2,048-bit RSA based on RNS(residue number systems) Montgomery modular multiplier As the systems that RNS processes a fast parallel modular multiplication for a large word partitioned into small words, we introduce Montgomery reduction method(MRM)[1]based on Wallace tree modular multiplier and 33 RNS bases with 64-bit size for RNS Montgomery modular multiplication in this paper. Also, for fast RNS modular multiplication, a modified method based on Chinese remainder theorem(CRT)[2] is presented. We have verified 2,048-bit RSA based on RNS using Samsung 0.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ technology and the 2,048-bit RSA is performed in 2.54㎳ at 100MHz.
Digital signal processing hardware based in RNS is currently considered as an important method for high speed and low cost hardware realization. This research designs and implements the method for conversion from a specific residue number system with moduli of the from $(2^k-1, 2^k, 2^k+1)$ to a weighted number system. Then, it simulates the implementation using a overlapped multiple-bit scanning method in the process of CRT conversion. In conclusion, the simulation shows that the CRT method which is adopted in this research, performs arithmetic operations faster than the traditional approaches, due to advantages of parallel processing and carry-free arithmetic operation.
CNNs tend to take a long time to learn and consume a lot of power due to lack of system resources with many data processing units when there are repetitive handles that do not have high performance in the image field. In this paper, we propose a handling method based on a low-power bus that can increase the exchange rate of multipliers and multiplicands within the convolution mixer, which is a tendency activity that occurs when a convolution mixer has multiplication, which is the core element of combination. Convolutional neural networks have proprietary low-power shared processor support and the design was implemented on an Intel DE1-SoC FPGA board using Verilog-HDL. The experiments validated the performance by comparing it with the exchange rate of the multiplier originally proposed by Shen on MNIST's numeric image database.

Recently, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on pairing based cryptosystems. The efficiency of pairing based cryptosystems depends on finite fields, similar to existing public key cryptosystems. In general, pairing based ctyptosystems are defined over finite fields of chracteristic three, GF($3^m$), based on trinomials. A multiplication in GF($3^m$) is the most dominant operation. This paper proposes a new most significant digit(MSD)-first digit- serial multiplier. The proposed MSD-first digit-serial multiplier has the same area complexity compared to previous multipliers, since the modular reduction step is performed in parallel. And the critical path delay is reduced from 1MUL+(log ${\lceil}n{\rceil}$+1)ADD to 1MUL+(log ${\lceil}n+1{\rceil}$)ADD. Therefore, when the digit size is not $2^k$, the time delay is reduced by one addition.
This paper describes a scalable architecture for flexible hardware implementation of Montgomery modular multiplication. Our scalable modular multiplier architecture, which is based on a one-dimensional array of processing elements (PEs), performs word parallel operation and allows us to adjust computational performance and hardware complexity depending on the number of PEs used, NPE. Based on the proposed architecture, we designed a scalable Montgomery modular multiplier (sMM) core supporting eight field sizes defined in SEC2. Synthesized with 180-nm CMOS cell library, our sMM core was implemented with 38,317 gate equivalents (GEs) and 139,390 GEs for NPE=1 and NPE=8, respectively. When operating with a 100 MHz clock, it was evaluated that 256-bit modular multiplications of 0.57 million times/sec for NPE=1 and 3.5 million times/sec for NPE=8 can be computed. Our sMM core has the advantage of enabling an optimized implementation by determining the number of PEs to be used in consideration of computational performance and hardware resources required in application fields, and it can be used as an IP (intellectual property) in scalable hardware design of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC).

Recently efficient implementation of finite field operation has received a lot of attention. Among the GF($2^m$) arithmetic operations, multiplication process is the most basic and a critical operation that determines speed-up hardware. We propose a hardware architecture using Mastrovito method to reduce processing time. Existing Mastrovito multipliers using the special generating trinomial p($\chi$)=$x^m$+$x^n$+1 require $m^2$-1 XOR gates and $m^2$ AND gates. The proposed multiplier needs $m^2$ AND gates and $m^2$+($n^2$-3n)/2 XOR gates that depend on the intermediate term xn. Time complexity of existing multipliers is $T_A$+( (m-2)/(m-n) +1+ log$_2$(m) ) $T_X$ and that of proposed method is $T_X$+(1+ log$_2$(m-1)+ n/2 ) )$T_X$. The proposed architecture is efficient for the extension degree m suggested as standards: SEC2, ANSI X9.63. In average, XOR space complexity is increased to 1.18% but time complexity is reduced 9.036%.
In this study, we estimate parameters of a distributed hydrologic model, GRM (grid based rainfall-runoff model), using a model-independent parameter estimation tool, PEST. We implement auto calibration of model parameters such as initial soil moisture, multipliers of overland roughness and soil hydraulic conductivity in the Geumho River Catchment and the Gamcheon Catchment using radar rainfall estimates and ground-observed rainfall represented by Thiessen interpolation. Automatic calibration is performed by GRM-MP (multiple projects), a modified version of GRM without GUI (graphic user interface) implementation, and "Parallel PEST" to improve estimation efficiency. Although ground rainfall shows similar or higher cumulative amount compared to radar rainfall in the areal average, high spatial variation is found only in radar rainfall. In terms of accuracy of hydrologic simulations, radar rainfall is equivalent or superior to ground rainfall. In the case of radar rainfall, the estimated multiplier of soil hydraulic conductivity is lower than 1, which may be affected by high rainfall intensity of radar rainfall. Other parameters such as initial soil moisture and the multiplier of overland roughness do not show consistent trends in the calibration results. Overall, calibrated parameters show different patterns in radar and ground rainfall, which should be carefully considered in the rainfall-runoff modelling applications using radar rainfall.

In this paper, we propose a new architecture of multiplier-and-accumulator (MAC) for high speed multiplication and accumulation arithmetic. By combining multiplication with accumulation and devising a hybrid type of carry save adder (CSA), the performance was improved. Since the accumulator which has the largest delay in MAC was removed and its function was included into CSA, the overall performance becomes to be elevated. The proposed CSA tree uses 1's complement-based radix-2 modified booth algorithm (MBA) and has the modified array for the sign extension in order to increase the bit density of operands. The CSA propagates the carries by the least significant bits of the partial products and generates the least significant bits in advance for decreasing the number of the input bits of the final adder. Also, the proposed MAC accumulates the intermediate results in the type of sum and carry bits not the output of the final adder for improving the performance by optimizing the efficiency of pipeline scheme. The proposed architecture was synthesized with $250{\mu}m,\;180{\mu}m,\;130{\mu}m$ and 90nm standard CMOS library after designing it. We analyzed the results such as hardware resource, delay, and pipeline which are based on the theoretical and experimental estimation. We used Sakurai's alpha power low for the delay modeling. The proposed MAC has the superior properties to the standard design in many ways and its performance is twice as much than the previous research in the similar clock frequency.
This paper proposes the architecture of UWB OFDM communication system. More high data rate is requested in the 128-point FFT/IFFT of the UWB OFDM communication system than the conventional communication systems. So, the proposed architecture uses pipeline and parallel architecture. For a highly efficient architecture, the optimal clipping power and the input quantization bits are found in simulation. The hardware complexity of the proposed architecture is presented is consideration of Adder, Register and Complex Multiplier.
