  • For stereo matching based on deep learning, the design of network structure is crucial to the calculation of matching cost, and the time-consuming problem of convolutional neural network in image processing also needs to be solved urgently. In this paper, a method of stereo matching using sparse loss volume in parallax dimension is proposed. A sparse 3D loss volume is constructed by using a wide step length translation of the right view feature map, which reduces the video memory and computing resources required by the 3D convolution module by several times. In order to improve the accuracy of the algorithm, the nonlinear up-sampling of the matching loss in the parallax dimension is carried out by using the method of multi-category output, and the training model is combined with two kinds of loss functions. Compared with the benchmark algorithm, the proposed algorithm not only improves the accuracy but also shortens the running time by about 30%.

  • We present a novel optical system for an augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) with two virtual images at different conjugates by employing a confocal off-axis two-mirror and introducing the horopter circle. For a far virtual image with large asymmetrical aberrations, we initially obtain an off-axis two-mirror system corrected for these aberrations and compensated for the down angle by configuring its parameters to satisfy the confocal and Scheimpflug conditions, respectively. In addition, this system is designed to reduce the biocular parallax by matching Petzval surface into the longitudinal horopter circle in a near virtual image. This design approach enables us to easily balance the residual aberrations and biocular parallax when configuring the optical system with two different conjugates, which results in an AR HUD available for near and far virtual images together.

  • I investigate the origin of arc degeneracies in satellite microlens parallax ${\pi}_E$ measurements with only late time data, e.g., t > $t_0+t_E$ as seen from the satellite. I show that these are due to partial overlap of a series of osculating, exactly circular, degeneracies in the ${\pi}_E$ plane, each from a single measurement. In events with somewhat earlier data, these long arcs break up into two arclets, or (with even earlier data) two points, because these earlier measurements give rise to intersecting rather than osculating circles. The two arclets (or points) then constitute one pair of degeneracies in the well-known four-fold degeneracy of space-based microlens parallax. Using this framework of intersecting circles, I show that next-generation microlens satellite experiments could yield good ${\pi}_E$ determinations with only about five measurements per event, i.e., about 30 observations per day to monitor 1500 events per year. This could plausibly be done with a small (hence cheap, in the spirit of Gould & Yee 2012) satellite telescope, e.g., 20 cm.

  • Sonar bearing accuracy is the correspondence between the target orientation predicted by sonar and actual target orientation, and is obtained from measurements. However, when measuring sonar bearing accuracy, many errors are included in the results because they are made at sea, where complex and diverse environmental factors are applied. In particular, parallax error caused by the difference between the position of the GPS receiver and the sonar sensor, and the time delay error generated between the speed of underwater sound waves and the speed of electromagnetic waves in the air have a great influence on the accuracy. Correcting these parallax errors and time delay errors without an automated tool is a laborious task. Therefore, in this study, we propose a sonar bearing accuracy measurement equipment with parallax error and time delay error correction. The tests were carried out through simulation data and real data. As a result of the test it was confirmed that the parallax error and time delay error were systematically corrected so that 51.7% for simulation data and more than 18.5% for real data. The proposed method is expected to improve the efficiency and accuracy of sonar system detection performance verification in the future.

  • SDI has been developing mobile 3D display for years. For mobile applications, we adapted parallax barrier method. We have developed auto stereoscopic swing 3D display in which people can 3D image in both portrait and landscape mode. Furthermore to increase 3D resolution, we have developed a high resolution 3D display using time division multiplexing parallax barrier method

  • In a three-dimensional/two-dimensional convertible parallax barrier display, an additional layer compensating the color dispersion for three-dimensional display can distort displayed image in the two-dimensional mode. We analyze the effect of the color dispersion compensating layer on two-dimensional image by computer simulations.

  • Augmenting the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) microlensing campaigns with intensive observations from a ground-based network of wide-field survey telescopes would have several major advantages. First, it would enable full two-dimensional (2-D) vector microlens parallax measurements for a substantial fraction of low-mass lenses as well as planetary and binary events that show caustic crossing features. For a significant fraction of the free-floating planet (FFP) events and all caustic-crossing planetary/binary events, these 2-D parallax measurements directly lead to complete solutions (mass, distance, transverse velocity) of the lens object (or lens system). For even more events, the complementary ground-based observations will yield 1-D parallax measurements. Together with the 1-D parallaxes from WFIRST alone, they can probe the entire mass range M ≳ M. For luminous lenses, such 1-D parallax measurements can be promoted to complete solutions (mass, distance, transverse velocity) by high-resolution imaging. This would provide crucial information not only about the hosts of planets and other lenses, but also enable a much more precise Galactic model. Other benefits of such a survey include improved understanding of binaries (particularly with low mass primaries), and sensitivity to distant ice-giant and gas-giant companions of WFIRST lenses that cannot be detected by WFIRST itself due to its restricted observing windows. Existing ground-based microlensing surveys can be employed if WFIRST is pointed at lower-extinction fields than is currently envisaged. This would come at some cost to the event rate. Therefore the benefits of improved characterization of lenses must be weighed against these costs.

  • DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) is a kind of view synthesis algorithm to generate images at free view points from the reference color image and its depth map. One of the main challenges of DIBR is the occurrence of holes that correspond to uncovered backgrounds at the synthesized view. In order to cover holes efficiently, two main approaches have been actively investigated. One is to develop preprocessing algorithms for depth maps or parallax maps to reduce the size of possible holes, and the other is to develop hole filling methods to fill the generated holes using adjacent pixels in non-hole areas. Most conventional preprocessing algorithms for reducing the size of holes are based on the smoothing process of depth map. Filtering of depth map, however, attenuates the resolution of depth map and generates geometric distortions. In this paper, we proposes a novel preprocessing algorithm for parallax map to improve the performance of hole-filling by avoiding the drawbacks of conventional methods.

  • Purpose: To develop a dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector. Methods: We designed the singlet reflector and the doublet reflector by Sigma 2000 program and compared the one to the other. Results: In analysis of finite ray aberration, we could confirm that it has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector. If you use the doublet reflector, the central thickness of optical system become more than two times bigger than the existing one. As a result, when the image of a target object is made on the observer's retina, if you make the first side's radius of curvature equal with the second one as the case of the singlet reflector, changes in magnification are appeared. To conquer this problem, we had to make be satisfied with the afocal condition in the case of doublet reflector. Conclusions: we could develop the dot sight device for a sighting shot using the doublet reflector which has the effective field of view with the free-parallax which is 3.3 times wider than the existing dot sight device using the singlet reflector.

  • In this paper, we introduce an eye-tracking 3D display system using variable parallax barrier and DDC communication. A barrier of variable parallax barrier composed of 4 sub-barriers and a commercially available web camera is utilized to implement the eye-tracking system. The coordinates of a viewer is extracted from the web camera transfer to 3D display via DDD/CI communication. The variable barrier attached to the LCD moves electrically according to the right eye position for 3D images. This system is compared experimentally with the commercial parallax barrier methods.
