  • Graphical regression is a paradigm for obtaining regression information using plots without model assumptions. The general goal of this approach is to find lowdimensional sufficient summary plots without loss of important information. Model assessments using residual plots are less likely to be successful in models that are not linear. As an alternative approach, marginal model plots provide a general graphical method for assessing the model. We apply the methods of graphical regression and model assessment using marginal model plots to the logistic regression model.

  • Despite that Korea has tried 50 years of service development policies, the result has been unsatisfactory. Borrowing the policy stream model of policy change and narrative policy framework one tried to explain the weaknesses of the policy process for the service development policies. Before 2000 lacking knowledge resulted in poor policy narratives while after 2000 despite sufficient knowledge base and well articulated narratives policy window would not open. Adversarial politics under conservative party caused the window to be closed. One suggests that paradigm shift in value and world view treats is necessary to overcome the policy failures in service development policy. According these analyses one expects a new initiative of policy narrative construction.

  • Quite a few historiographers of language science have measured the applicability of the term 'revolution' toward the line of work initiated by Chomsky, with the conclusion to the positive or negative effect as the case may be. This paper starts out with a brief review of this issue, with an interim conclusion that, while Chomskyan linguistics may be regarded as revolutionary in certain aspects, terms like 'revolution' and 'paradigm' are hardly applicable here in the way they were originally intended by Thomas Kuhn. It can be said, nontechnically, that the model of theory under discussion is at once 'revolutionary' and 'evolutionary' - in the sense that revolutions in linguistics have not resulted in abrupt loss of continuity with past 'paradigms', if there were any such. Chomsky's theory of language plays the same role of consolidation and refinement of structuralism that, say, the neogrmmarians played in their day. It has continued some fundamental traits of its predecessor, recovered others, and unwittingly rediscovered still others. But this is not the main thrust of the present paper. For, even if Chomskyan theory were to be looked upon as straightforwardly 'revolutionary', that revolution has not been a felicitous one. Some critic (Pieter A. M. Seuren, to be specific) goes as far as to say that "largely as a result of Chomsky's actions, linguistics is now sociologically in a very unhealthy state $\cdots$ to the point even of threatening to make that whole school of linguistics intellectually irrelevant." Besides, under the present state of language science that strikes one as typical of what Kuhn has characterized as "pre-paradigmatic" insecurity and disharmony, an unhealthy situation might take place if we were to think of the theoretical disagreements as conflicts between 'incommensurable' viewpoints-between 'rival paradigms' as it were-thereby avoiding or evading rational discussion. Another danger concerns the bandwagon effect, with linguists prematurely boarding each novel theory seemingly destined for popularity, for fear of being left clinging to an outdated 'paradigm.' Here lies another reason why the notion of 'revolution', Kuhnian or not, might as well be put aside, in the historiography of linguistics at the least.

  • The paradigm of the housing policy has been transformed from housing supply to housing welfare, from the policy of housing quantity expansion to the policy of customized housing welfare. The Housing Act was newly enacted to realize the new paradigm of the housing policy. The Act establishes the role of the Housing Welfare Centers in the housing welfare delivery system, but they have some difficulties in doing their role because of limited amount of centers and their manpower. The desirable and efficient model of housing welfare delivery system, therefore, is that the demand of housing welfare is discovered on local base, and that demanders can be provided housing welfare service connected to local governments or neighborhood housing welfare centers. To do so local communities should be established and activated, and the needs of housing welfare service also be discovered. This study is a exploratory one on communities' role in housing welfare delivery system in spite of some limitations based on existing theories and studies, and is significant as a new trial.

  • The objective of this study is to explore the characteristic of welfare for the disabled on the focus of 'Welfare Law for the Disabled' through multiple paradigm of disability. A proper understanding of disability theory requires more than a distinction between individual and social model approaches. It is also helpful to distinguish between materialist and idealist explanations. These two dimensions are used to generate a four-fold typology. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1981', individual materialist position was dominated. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1989', individual idealist position dawned to appear. In 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1999' which expanded diverse community services, individual idealist position was strengthened and social creationist position started to appear. Several characteristics are found out after analysis of 'Welfare Law for the Disabled of 1999'. Individual materialist position, individual idealist position, and social creationist position are mixed. Though the goal of the law is based on social creationist position, the central policies and measures are based on individual materialist position and individual idealist position. So it is necessary to amend 'Welfare Law for the Disabled' in the direction of including social creationist position and social constructionist position.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the contributions and limitations of an independent internet newspaper dedicated to disability affairs. The materials analysed in this study were articles on personal assistance service conflicts between users and assistants by Ablenews. This study used inductive content analysis, responsibility frame analysis, and disability paradigm analysis. First, in general Ablenews appeared to report personal assistance service conflicts as they were. Second, the results showed that Ablenews tended to attribute the causes and solutions of the conflicts to the users and assistants. Third, nearly half of content units of Ablenews articles conveyed the perspective of rehabilitation paradigm though personal assisstanc services are closely related to independent living model. Based on the results this study suggested that Ablenews needs to improve specialty in reports on disability affairs using editorial staff, professional reporters, guests reporters with specialties.

  • The previous Adaptive Control of Thought-Rational (ACT-R) cognitive architecture model has a limitation in that it cannot accurately predict human visual search strategy, because time effect, one of important human cognitive features, is not considered. Thus, the present study proposes ACT-R cognitive modeling that contains the impact of time using a revised utility system in the ACT-R model. Then, the validation of the model is performed by comparing results of the model with eye-tracking experimental data and SEEV-T (SEEV-Time; SEEV model which considers time effect) model in "Where's Wally" game. The results demonstrate that the model data fit fairly well with the eye-tracking data ($R^2=0.91$) and SEEV-T model ($R^2=0.93$). Therefore, the modeling method which considers time effect using a revised utility system should be used in predicting the human visual search paradigm when the available time is limited.

  • Home economics education professional knowledge consists of empirical interpretive critical science component. Thus it is imperative that the alternative research perspectives be used to gain certain knowledge for the profession of home economics education. In human inquiry and education there is a growing concern that the dominant research paradigm positivist natural science model is inadequate to address the phenomena constructed by persons. However, Home economics education has not examined and almost utilized alternative research perspectives. This review will probe research logic and resecrach methodology of qualitative inquiry within home economics education and highlight the shift from positivism to post-positivism.

  • We witness now the changing techno-economic paradigm and the emerging learning economy. Reflecting on these changes, the group of Evolutionary Economists study recently the theory on regional innovation system, but their research results are still now not theoretically ‘systemized’. Moreover, they often indeed speak of the ‘social capital’, but do not investigate that. This paper tries to systemize their empirical findings and theoretical results and integrate the discussions on social capital in fields of sociology into a mathematical model. This study emphasizes the role of social capital in the innovating process.

  • The introduction of competition in the electricity market requires a new paradigm in the capacity planning. This paper presents a methodology on a transmission planning considering dispatch in the government view point. The proposed model is mixed integer programming that minimized operation and construction costs. The proposed idea is exorcised on a case study.
