This thesis is a reflection of Korean aestheticism and how it has evolved and influenced Korean contemporary fashion throughout the last century. Up to the current, there have been five notable trends of fashion that have been influenced from and have reflected the qualities emblematic of various periods in Korean history. They can be characterized as the era of Missionary fashion, Uniform fashion, Salon fashion, Brand Name Fashion, and finally, fashion from the current era of diversification. The specific characteristics of each fashion era have been analized and illustrated in a comprehensive table. Design characteristics of Korean contemporary fashion are as follows : 1. A point of emphasis is given to facial feature, unconstructive design and ample silhouette and A silhouette, two-piece and pants. Korean style wrap skirt, a smooth curve and layered style. 2. Effect of flatness from material; as methods of quilting, reinforced dual stitching(Kaeki), patchwork, embroidery and goldfoil thread extra, it is turned up that texture of cloth stuff and effects of flatness. 3. Simple color combinations give effects in two different directions For instance, white and a variety of vivid colors, a dull color and bright colors, black, blue. 4. Over-design, diffusion of fashion. Based on the design characteristics described above, the essence of Korea's beauty consciousness can be captured and summarized through the following points: 1. Emotionalism and non-characterism: traditional and simple natural beauty and modernized natural beauty. 2. From authoritism to non-authoritism: traditional and formal personal beauty and casual characteristic beauty. 3. Polaris (antithesis) phenomenon: chastic beauty and ostentatious beauty, simplicity and lavishness, conformity of fashion and originality. Although the beauty consciousness of Korean contemporary fashion is changing from traditional passive metaphor to aesthetic expressionism for the new generation, after all the basic foundation or root of the spiritual beauty of idealism is usually recognized by focusing on the face.
This study is to figure out where the current satisfaction with ready-to-wear clothes based on middle-aged women's body shapes is at and to propose basic considerations in its production for coming up with a better sizing system to maximize customer's satisfaction. The data obtained from measurement and questionnaire by 126 middle- aged (35-59) women which were located in Gwangju. Followings are summary of this research, 1)The satisfaction level with lower -wear is relatively lower-wear than that of upper-wear in most parts of body. 2) The results by way of putting score show three different groups. Group 1 has characteristics of front body silhouette in the small ratio of shoulder width/bust width, shoulder width/waist width and big ratio of shoulder width/hip width. And Group 3 has characteristics of front silhouette, small ratio of hip girth/thigh girth. Group 2 has a standard shape. 3) The satisfaction level with lower-wear based on middle-aged women's body shapes shows slight difference. In this category, Group 2 has higher satisfaction level than that of Group 1, while Group 1 has better shape than Group 3. 4) The items of clothes which should be considered current less satisfaction on their size and pattern are skirt and pants. In the meantime, specific body parts for the same criteria are hip girth, thigh girth. And the 43.7% of middle-aged women who responded to this study requires improvement on the fit of lower-wear.

This study examined recycled fashion design utilizing natural images for application to recent trends. This study is significant in that it presents the possibility of the development of recycled women's wear design by reflecting the characteristics and expressions of natural images and using denim material, which is the most common clothing material for everyday life. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, five types of women's clothing was produced, pursuing a natural design with a soft and feminine silhouette. Second, the colors used were blue and white, which could represent nature. Third, as for materials, this study used clothing that was to be thrown away: four pairs of denim pants and two denim dresses. This study chose denim cloth, with its great value for reuse, because of the characteristics of the strong and durable fiber, because everyone has more than one article of clothing made from denim and because it can be easily sourced. Fourth, for textile motifs, this study expressed a peaceful natural scenery with tropical animals and plants. In addition, this study further emphasized natural images using transfer media printing. This study has significance in that it presented the possibility of recycled fashion design and expanded the range of utilization using transfer media printing, a dyeing treatment to reduce the environmental burden.

The main purpose of this research is to develop the methodology of objective evaluation of clothing appearance by eye movement analysis. The visual clothing items used in this study were skirt, one-piece, pants and shirt with the style variation of silhouette and details. By observing eye movement during visual evaluation of clothing, we can achieve the basic fixation data of eye movement. Moreover, we developed the Matlab program to extract the fixation coordinate and number of eye fixation on each part of the clothing item. As results, there were differences in the duration of fixation time for each item and the fixation time was not different by styles within a clothing item. However, we could find differences in the fixation time within a style, in other words, we could select the important parts of the clothing by observing the fixation time in a certain clothing item. It is also noted that time required in visual information processing differs depending on the item, and there was a region which contain more information independent with styles in the same item. By developing the objective method of visual evaluation that correspond to human's visual information processing, the results are expected to be applied in the retrieval program in internet shopping mall or in the development of contents for advertisement of clothing.
The analysis results of the characteristics of children's clothes for school girls from the 2006S/S-2010S/S collections reveal that the most frequent type of item composition was 2'PS & 3'PS. T-shirts were the popular kind of item for upper garments and pants for lower garments. The major silhouettes were H and A line. The predominant neckline was U, which was followed by camisole and V. The major collar styles were stand-up and flat. Chromatic colors were used more than achromatic ones and after white the most popular colors were blue, pink, red, black, navy, and green. The dominant color scheme was a two-color or three-color scheme. The percentage of solid and patterned material garments was the highest and the most popular pattern was flowers. The most popular style of garment had no decorative detail that was followed by one-item, two-item, and three-item decoration. The major kinds of decorative detail were frills, pleats, and prints.
The purpose of this study is to understand how the silhouette changed throughout 1970s and assess how US women express their identities through their dress, which may explain societies' attitudes through the way women dresses. US Vogue fashion magazines were used to explore all the information on fashion and style trends, social trends, beauty, and travel. A content analysis was performed on the issues of the March and September for the years 1970 to 1979. The findings for this study about the 1970s were all about perpetual change, constantly moving forward with innovation. The color ranged from bright, cheery and bold to deep and passionate to subtle neutrals. There were a few constant colors through the decade like white, black and navy. Occasionally the trend would completely change from one season to the next within the same year. They would be full and oversized and then be slim and body conscious. The one trend that stayed true for the entire decade was wrapping. Skirts, pants, dresses, tops, shoes and jewelry; everything wrapped in one-way or another. Clothes steadily became more revealing as the years progressed. Fabrics over all were soft and knitted. Casual and comfortable was the phase heard most often. In the 1970s there was constant change in prints. They were bold and large or subtle and small, ethnic or floral. Hair was mostly smooth and sleek however towards the style moved to a fuller look.

The main purpose of the study were to investigate a selection motive of clothing and the feeling of wearing of Korean high school students. The results were as follows ; 1. For underwear, the body appearance and the hygienical aspect were shown as important factors in a selection motive of clothing. And the property of matter and hygienical aspect were shown as important factors in the feeling of wearing. 2. For outwear, a functionality and the psychological aspect were shown as important factors in a selective motive of clothing. And a exeroise and the psychological aspect were shown as important factors in the feeling of wearing. 3. For skirt, the psychological aspect was shown as an important factor in a selection motive of clothing and the feeling of wearing. For pants, a functionality was shown as an important factor in a selection motive of clothing. 4. A exercise was shown as an important factor in the feeling of wearing with the silhouette of outwear. 5. The hygienical aspect was shown as an important factor in the demand of selection motive of clothing for comfort.
The purpose of this study is to research Miao ethnic costume which have been distinctly expressed differences according tribes and areas, present fashion design reflecting image of Miao ethnic costume. Two steps was taken in order to achive this purpose. The first step was to put in order formative characteristics of Miao ethnic costume being based on the Chinese books and domestic research materials. The second step was to study formative characteristics of Miao ethnic costume in comparison 2000A/W fashion trend, illustrate and schematize fashion designs. The results of formative characteristics of Miao ethnic costume are summarized as follows 1. X or H silhouette through skirt & jacket and pants & jacket. 2. Layered look that been twisted around several items. 3. Fine pleats skirts. 4. Refined and splendid color. Black was used main color, dark blue & red purple were used coordi color, vivid color were used accent color 5. Geometrical pattern, cross stitch embroidery. 6. Various ornaments being used silver. 7. Various hair styles and hairdressers. Using above characteristics, this study presneted fusion fashion design combined images of ethnic and techno with dark blue, mustard, blue purple. The target was Forties, professional woman.
The study with the subjects of the female consumers of the fomentation rooms in their 20s, this research made an investigation of the fomentation wear. Also, dye-fastness experiments of the wear's colors against washing and sweating were held. The following are the conclusions; 1. Survey Results of the Present Situations of Fomentation Wear Designs of the fomentation wear, 88% belonged to a T-shirt (upper clothes) and knee pants. The primary colors of the wear were in the order of gray (37.5%), white (31.3%), orange (25%), indigo (18.8%), and yellowish (18.8%). 43% of the wear companies used the same color for two-piece clothes, and 57% employed different colors for upper and lower clothes. 2. Consumers' Attitude about Fomentation Wear The key problem in the attitude to the wear, 25.9% pointed out the worries about physical exposure (like breasts and legs) owing to the improperness in designs and sizes. 32.8% of the subjects were also worried about physical silhouette exposure following sweating. The need for design improvement was felt as the subjects expressed their intention to use better fomentation wear in design and materials if the fare is higher. 3. Experimental Results of the Dye fastness of the Fomentation Wear Dye-fastness experiments by sweating appeared in the order of gray > white > pink. The results by washing were gray & white > pink. As laundry grew in number, the grade of dye fastness fell a little bit. In the fomentation environment with more laundry and more perspiration, dye fastness of the wear's colors against washing and sweating should be fully considered.
This study examines the stage costumes of the creative musical 'Hyecho', which was performed six times in the Chung Ang Art Center hosted by Chung-Ang University's performance & media agency from December 20 to 22 in 2006. The stage costumes were made based on these basic design elements of stage costumes that were dyed : line, silhouette, material, and color. First, the creative musical 'Hyecho' presents a new form of fusion theatre, which blends Korean traditional music and dance with videos. Thereby, the musical has opened a new phase in Korea's creative performing arts. Second, in musical performances that combines dance and songs, stage costumes should be made not only to attract the audience's eyes, but also not to interrupt actors' vocalizations and movements by taking their physical features into account. Also, costumes should be made in consideration of their relationships with visual elements, including stage settings and lighting. Third, the musical features fusion-style stage costumes, which combines Hanbok, the Korean traditional costume, and Indian traditional costumes with modern costumes. For the line and silhouette, costumes show the beauty of curves through the curves of Hanbok and India's traditional costumes and also through irregular pleats of pants. Also, by using cotton materials, which is easy to dye and not readily deformed, costumes feature colors that are found in nature through a gradation dyeing technique. In doing so, it offers visual amusement to the audience by making stage costumes look like a beautiful painting. Fourth, the stage costumes of the chorus feature costumes that use lining and pleated skirts using belts, and various accessories, including necklaces that use strings in order to express evil spirits. Since there is not much time to change costumes during a performance, using such items are helpful to show the unique characteristics of actors effectively during the limited time. Also, coordinating with the lighting director allows the costume designer to make better costumes for the chorus and make the performance more dramatic. Finally, it was not necessary to wash the costumes of the chorus of the fusion musical Hyecho 2006 since it was performed only six times. However, when using dyed costumes for the long-term performance, it might cause problems such as bleaching that result from the washing of costumes and low durability that can result in the deformation of costumes. As performing arts are made in various forms and are diversified, it is needed for stage costumes to change accordingly through new attempts and various ways of expression.
