In order to analyze the characteristics of series arcs that could happen in poor connections of electrical facilities, we made an apparatus which is similar to actual situation. series arcs are generated between copper and copper, copper and bronze, copper and brass, bronze and bronze, and then oxidation growth and voltage waveform were measured. A very small vibration with constant movement is needed to grow oxidation initially, whereas oxidation growth proceeded without a vibration after a certain amount of time. At first, blue white flame was generated initially between copper and copper, and then yellow flame was generated. In case of contact between copper and copper, the length of oxidation growth was about 7.1[mm] in 90[min]. In case of contact between copper and brass, the length of oxidation growth was about 4.3[mm] in 90[min], When bronze is contacted with copper, the lengths of oxidation growth were about 1.4[mm] in 20[min] and 2.7[mm] in 40[min] respectively, and no more oxidation growth was shown after that. In case of contact between brass and brass, the length of oxidation growth was about 1.2[mm] in 90[min], so it was the smallest compared to other cases. When copper is contacted with copper, the current through the load was about 1.6[A] and the power dissipation increased from 19[W] to 31[W]. In case of oxidation growth between copper and brass, the voltage changed from 8.4[V] to 11[V]. However, the voltage drop and the power dissipation between copper and brass were small compared to oxidation growth between copper and copper. When series arcs were generated between bronze and copper, a peak was shown at the beginning of voltage increase, and 40[min] later, oxidation material was not grown any longer. When oxidation growth occurred, voltage waveform showed irregular waveforms with tiny ripples.
The effect of post oxidation, water-quenched after holding in air for 5~420 seconds or cooling or furnace cooling, on corrosion resistance and phase formation characteristics of the surface layer of SM20C and SM45C carbon steels after gas nirtrocarbursing in the $NH_3-5%CO_2-N_2$ gas atmosphere at $580^{\circ}C$ for 3hours is studied. The compound layers of two steels consist of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$, ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Fe_4N$ and $Fe_3O_4$, phases, however, the quantity of ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Fe_4N$ phase increases for the furnace cooled specimen compared to that of air cooling specimen. With increasing $NH_3$ content in the gas mixture and also increasing the keeping time in the air after gas nitrocarburising, the ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$ phase of compound layer increases, while the decreased current density recognizing the improvement of corrosion resistance are shown. the passive current density of SM45C steel is lower than that of SM20C steel at the same nitrocarburising conditions.

Copper iodide was employed as a modifier for preparation of a new carbon ceramic electrode. For the first time, the catalytic oxidation of amoxicillin (AMX) was demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and amperometry methods at the surface of this modified carbon ceramic electrode. The copper iodide modified sol-gel derived carbon ceramic (CIM-SGD-CC) electrode has very high catalytic ability for electrooxidation of amoxicillin. The catalytic oxidation peak current was linearly dependent on the amoxicillin concentration and the linearity range obtained was 100 to 1000 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$ with a detection limit of 0.53 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$. The diffusion coefficient ($D=(1.67{\pm}0.102){\times}10^{-3}\;cm^2\;s^{-1}$), and the kinetic parameter such as the electron transfer coefficient (${\alpha}$) and exchange current density ($j_0$) for the modified electrode were calculated. The advantages of the modified CCE are its good stability and reproducibility of surface renewal by simple polishing, excellent catalytic activity and simplicity of preparation.
In this paper, the (S $r_{0.85}$.C $a_{0.15}$)Ti $O_{3}$ of paraelectric grain boundary layer (GBL) ceramics were fabricated, and the analysis of microstructuye and the thermally stimulated current(TSC) were investigated for understanding effects of GBL's interfacial phenomenon on variations of electrical properties. As a result, the three peaks of .alpha., .alpha. and .betha. were obtained at the temperature of -20 [.deg. C], 20[.deg. C] and 80[.deg. C], respectively. The origins of these peaks are that the .alpha. peak observed at -20[.deg. C] looks like to be ascribed to the ionization excitation from donor level in the grain, and the .alpha.' peak observed at 20[.deg. C] appears to show up by detrap of the trapped carrier of border between the oxidation layer and the grain, and the .betha. peak observed at 80[.deg. C] seems to be resulted from hopping conduction of existing carrier in the trap site of the border between the oxidation and second phase. and second phase.
In this paper, in order to investigate the behavior of charged particles on (Sr.Ca)TiO$_{3}$ ceramics with paraelectric properties, the characteristics of electrical conduction and thermally stimulated current was measured respectively. As a result, the conduction mechanism is divided into three regions having different mechanism as the current increased. The region I below 200[V/Cm] shows the ohmic conduction. The region B between 200[V/cm] and 2000[V/cm] can be explained by the Poole-Frenkel emission theory, and the region III above 2000[V/cm] is dominated by the tunneling effect. The three peaks of TSC were obtained at the temperature of -20[.deg. C], 20[.deg. C] and 80[.deg. C], respectively. The origins of these peaks are that the .alpha. peak observed at -20[.deg. C] looks like to be ascribed to the ionization excitation from donor level in the grain, and the .alpha.' peak observed at 20 [.deg. C] appears to show up by hopping conduction of the trapped carrier of border between the oxidation layer and the grain, and the .betha. peak observed at 80[.deg. C] seems to be resulted from hopping conduction of existing carrier in the trap site of the border between the oxidation and second phase.

In this work, we studied the effects of electrochemical oxidation treatments of carbon fibers (CFs) on interfacial adhesion between CF and epoxy resin with various current densities. The surface morphologies and properties of the CFs before and after electrochemical-oxidation-treatment were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and single-fiber contact angle. The mechanical interfacial shear strength of the CFs/epoxy matrix composites was investigated by using a micro-bond method. From the results, electrochemical oxidation treatment introduced oxygen functional groups and increased roughness on the fiber surface. The mechanical interfacial adhesion strength also showed higher values than that of an untreated CF-reinforced composite.
Application of fuel cell to produce renewable energy for commercial purpose is limited by the high cost of Pt based electrode materials. Development of inexpensive, high energetic electrode is the need of the hour to produce pollution free energy using bio-fuel through a fuel cell. Ni-Cu and Ni-CeO2-Cu electrode materials, electro synthesized by pulse current have been developed. The surface morphology of the electrode materials is controlled by different deposition parameters in order to produce a high current from the electro-oxidation of the fuel, the ethanol. The developed materials are electrochemically characterized by Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Chronoamperometry (CA) and Potentiodynamic polarization tests. The results confirm that the high current is due to their enhanced catalytic properties viz. high exchange current density (i0), low polarization resistance (Rp) and low impedance. It is worthwhile to mention here that the addition of CeO2 to Ni-Cu has outperformed Pt as far as the high electro catalytic properties are concerned; the exchange current density is about eight times higher than the same on Pt surface. The morphology of the electrode surface examined by SEM and FESEM exhibits that the grains are narrow and sub spherical with 3D surface, containing vacancies in between the elongated grains. The fact has enhanced more surface area for electro oxidation of the fuel, giving rise to an increase in current. Presence of Ni, CeO2, and Cu is confirmed by the XRD and EDXS. Fuel cell fabricated with Ni-CeO2-Cu material electrode is expected to produce clean electrical energy at cheaper rates than conventional one, using bio fuel the derived from biomass.
The possibility of an improvement in heat dissipation performance of aluminum alloy heat sink for shipboard LED luminaries through plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was investigated. Four different PEO coatings were produced on aluminum alloy 5052 in silicate based alkaline solution by varying current density ($50{\sim}200mA/cm^2$). On voltage-time response curves, three stages were clearly distinguished at all current densities, namely an initial linear increase, slowdown of increase rate, and steady state(constant voltage). It was found that the increase in current density caused the breakdown voltage to increase. Two different surface morphologies - coralline porous structure and pancake structure - were confirmed by SEM examination. The coralline porous structure was predominant in the coatings produced at lower current densities (50 and $100mA/cm^2$) while under high current densities(150 and $200mA/cm^2$) the pancake structure became dominant. The coating thickness was measured and found to be in a range between about $13{\mu}m$ and $44{\mu}m$, showing increasing thickness with increasing current density. As a result, $100mA/cm^2$ was proposed as an effective process parameter to improve the heat dissipation performance of aluminum alloy heat sink, which could lower the LED operating temperature by about 30%.
In this work, a ruthenium dioxide electrode has been prepared by thermal decomposition at 400 ℃ then used for the oxidation of commercial amoxicillin. The physical characterization showed that RuO2 electrode presents a mud cracked structure. Its electrochemical characterization has revealed an increase of the voltammetric charge in acid electrolyte compared to neutral electrolyte indicating the importance of protons in its surface redox processes. The voltammetric study of the oxidation of amoxicillin has been investigated. It has been obtained that the oxidation of amoxicillin is controlled by both adsorption and diffusion processes. Moreover, the oxidation of amoxicillin occurs via direct and indirect processes in free or electrolyte containing chlorides. Through preparative electrolysis, enhancement of amoxicillin oxidation was observed in the presence of chloride where the amoxicillin degradation yield reached more than 50 % compared to less than 5% in the absence of chlorides. Spectrophotometric investigations have revealed the degradation of intermediates absorbing at 350 nm.
Anodic oxidation treatment of metals is one of typical surface finishing methods which has been used for improving surface appearance, bioactivity, adhesion with paints and the resistances to corrosion and/or abrasion. This article provides fundamental principle, type and characteristics of the anodic oxidation treatment methods, including anodizing method and plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method. The anodic oxidation can form thick oxide films on the metal surface by electrochemical reactions under the application of electric current and voltage between the working electrode and auxiliary electrode. The anodic oxide films are classified into two types of barrier type and porous type. The porous anodic oxide films include a porous anodizing film containing regular pores, nanotubes and PEO films containing irregular pores with different sizes and shapes. Thickness and defect density of the anodic oxide films are important factors which affect the corrosion resistance of metals. The anodic oxide film thickness is limited by how fast ions can migrate through the anodic oxide film. Defect density in the anodic oxide film is dependent upon alloying elements and second-phase particles in the alloys. In this article, the principle and mechanisms of formation and growth of anodic oxide films on metals are described.
