  • Off-line handwritten character recognition is in difficulty of incomplete preprocessing because it has not dynamic information has various handwriting, extreme overlap of the consonant and vowel and many error image of stroke. Consequently off-line handwritten character recognition needs to study about preprocessing of various methods such as binarization and thinning. This paper considers running time of watershed algorithm and the quality of resulting image as preprocessing for off-line handwritten Korean character recognition. So it proposes application of effective watershed algorithm for segmentation of character region and background region in gray level character image and segmentation function for binarization by extracted watershed image. Besides it proposes thinning methods that effectively extracts skeleton through conditional test mask considering routing time and quality of skeleton, estimates efficiency of existing methods and this paper's methods as running time and quality. Average execution time on the previous method was 2.16 second and on this paper method was 1.72 second. We prove that this paper's method removed noise effectively with overlap stroke as compared with the previous method.

  • The Miller cycle is a diesel engine that has been developed in recent years that it can reduce NOx and improve fuel consumption by reducing the compression ratio through intake valve closing (IVC) time control. The Miller cycle can be divided into the early Miller method of closing the intake valve before the bottom dead center (BDC) and the late Miller method of closing the intake valve after the BDC. At low speeds, the late Miller method is advantageous as it can increase the volumetric efficiency; while at medium and high speeds, the early Miller method is advantageous because of the high internal temperature reduction effect due to the expansion of the intake air during the piston lowering from IVC to BDC. Therefore, in consideration of the ef ects of the early and late Miller methods, it is necessary to adopt the most suitable Miller method for the operating conditions. In this study, a two-stage turbo charge system was applied to four-stroke engines and the process of enhancing the Miller effect through a reduction of the intake and exhaust valve overlap as well as the valve change adjustment mechanism were considered. As a result, the ef ects of fuel consumption and Tmax reduction were confirmed by adopting the Miller cycle with a two-stage supercharge, a reduction of valve overlap, and an increase of suction valve lift.

  • The purpose of this study is to elucidate that photo, which has been used as original photo's purpose of information transfer in modern age, is now used as romantic reproduction which is the communication methods of architect's idea and thought through photographic vision which is beyond photograph own capabilities. The photos of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier's architectural works are taken as an example for studying and analysing the way of deliverying the concept of creative work in the functional spaces in the modern era. It looked at the way of modern archirecture configuration, which architects wanted to show by pictures, such as concurrency, movement, sense of exhibition and concept of time-space and planarity on photographic vision such as multiview, movement, daily life exclusion, scenography and perspective loss. Reflecting that, I presents Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe's intention through photo by analyzing their picture of architecture by way of photograph techniques-camera position moving, over exposure, photomontage, silhouette technic and overlap technic. Mies van der Rohe and Le corbusier demonstrated the change and manipulation of the their architectural photos in different point of view. They express their architectural theories by photos of their works and overcome the limitation of expression of constructed building designed by them. The photos of architects's works in the case study with photos and descriptions introduce to their design concept. The design concept of the architects have become ideal concept for many contemporary architects and keep reproducing through the photos of their architectural works.

  • Recently studies on how to use the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) are actively being conducted, and the National Geographic Information Institute published the 『Work Guidelines for Public Surveying of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles』. However, the guidelines do not provide the optimum shooting conditions required for each application. In this study, we tried to find the suitable shooting conditions for the production of 3D (Three-dimensional) spatial information and orthophoto. To this end, 45 experiments were conducted by various altitudes, overlaps, and camera angles within an above ground level of 150m. For evaluating the 3D modeling by shooting conditions, point densities of 9 verification areas were analyzed, and to evaluate the orthophotos, 1/1,000 digital maps were compared. Considering the quality of the output and the processing time for precise 3D construction, an altitude of 50m, an overlap of 70~80%, and a camera angle of 80~90° are suitable as shooting conditions, and an altitude of 100m and camera angle of 80~90° are suitable for orthophoto generation.

  • Fragment assembly problem is to reconstruct DNA sequence contigs from a collection of fragment sequences. We have developed an efficient X-window program, XFAP, for assembling DNA fragments. In the XFAP, the dimer frequency comparison method is used to quickly eliminate pairs of fragments that can not overlap. This method takes advantage of the difference of dimer frequencies within the minimum acceptable overlap length in each fragment pair. Hirschberg algorithm is applied to compute the maximal-scoring overlapping alignment in linear space. The perfomance of XFAP was tested on a set of DNA fragment sequences extracted from long DNA sequences of GenBank by a fragmentation program and showed a great improvement in execution time, especially as the number of fragments increases.

  • Rhizomes of the common reed (Phragmites communis Trin.) were incubated for three days in the dark. Methanol extract of the shoots was thin layer chromatographed with several solvent systems and visualized with five reagents. The results may be summarized as follows: 1. Serotonin, tryptophan, and tryptamine were identified by cochromatography with the respective authentic compounds. Bufotenine, N-methylserotonin, and N,N-dimethyltryptamine were tentatively identified by their Rf values and colour reactions. The presence of skatole and gramine was suggested. 2. It was esteemed that the common reed might have an active methylation/hydroxylation system of indole compounds at least for a period of time. 3. The presently devised 'overlap' thin layer chromatographic technique may be a useful tool for the identification of a compound whose Rf value was diverse from that of the authentic one by the interferance containing in a sample material.

  • This study aims to create artworks where characteristics of paintings appear by converging beauty illustration that conducts proactive activities in an area of arts with watercolor techniques. It carries academic significance in that it delves into convergence design that reflects creative expression by putting the spotlight on diversified expressive methods of beauty illustraion through watercolor techniques. As for a method of the study, preceding studies and technical books were examined, and a total of four beauty illustration artworks were created centering on art makeup design by classifying watercolor techniques into gradient technique and overlap lining technique. First of all, the result made it possible for watercolor techniques to explore unlimited possibilities at a time of suggesting another expressive method of beauty illustration. Second, it was possible to express unique art makeup design through clear and candid characteristics inherent in watercolor paintings. In this regard, the study enhanced accessibility by departing from limited expression methods applied to beauty illustration to induce a wider range of artworks. It is hoped that beauty illustration can be specialized to achieve an independent artistic domain equipped with diversity and professionalism.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method detecting foot motion capture in order to overlap in realtime foot's 3D virtual model from stereo cameras. In order to overlap foot's virtual model at the same position of the foot, a process of the foot's joint detection to regularly track the foot's joint motion is necessary, and accurate register both foot's virtual model and user's foot in complicated motion is most important problem in this technology. In this paper, we propose a dynamic registration using two types of marker groups. A plane information of the ground handles the relationship between foot's virtual model and user's foot and obtains foot's pose and location. Foot's rotation is predicted by two attached marker groups according to instep of center framework. Consequently, we had implemented our proposed system and estimated the accuracy of the proposed method using various experiments.

  • NGE(Nested Generalized Exemplar Method) can increase the performance of the noisy data at the same time, can reduce the size of the model. It is the optimal distance-based classification method using a matching rule. NGE cross or overlap hyperrectangles generated in the learning has been noted to inhibit the factors. In this paper, We propose the DHGen(Dominant Hyperrectangle Generation) algorithm which avoids the overlapping and the crossing between hyperrectangles, uses interval weights for mixed hyperrectangles to be splited based on the mutual information. The DHGen improves the classification performance and reduces the number of hyperrectangles by processing the training set in an incremental manner. The proposed DHGen has been successfully shown to exhibit comparable classification performance to k-NN and better result than EACH system which implements the NGE theory using benchmark data sets from UCI Machine Learning Repository.

  • In the case where both a camera and a target are moving at the same time, the image background is successively changed, and the overlap with other moving objects is apt to be generated. The snake algorithms have been variously used in tracking the object, but it is difficult to be applied in the excessive overlap with other objects and the large bias between the snake and the target. To solve this problem, this paper presents an extended snake model. It includes an additional energy function which considers the temporal variation rate of the snake's area and a SSD algorithm which generates the template adaptive to the snake detected in the previous frame. The new energy function prevents the snake from over-shrinking or stretching and the SSD algorithm with adaptively changing template allows the prediction of the target's position in the next frame. The experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm successfully tracks the target even when the target is temporarily occluded by other objects.
