Digit-serial VLSI Architecture for Lifting-based Discrete Wavelet Transform (리프팅 기반 이산 웨이블렛 변환의 디지트 시리얼 VLSI 구조)

  • In this paper, efficient digit-serial VLSI architecture for 1D (9,7) lifting-based discrete wavelet transform (DWT) filter has been proposed. The proposed architecture computes the DWT in digit basis, so that the required hardware is reduced. Also, the multiplication is replaced with the shift and add operation to minimize the hardware requirement. Bit allocation for input, output, and the internal data has been determined by analyzing the PSNR. We have carefully designed the data feedback latency not to degrade the performance in the recursive folded scheduling. The proposed digit-serial architecture requires small amount of hardware but achieve 100% of hardware utilization, so we try to optimize the tradeoffs between the hardware cost and the performance. The proposed architecture has been designed and verified by VerilogHDL and synthesized by Synopsys Design Compiler with a DongbuHitek $0.18{\mu}m$ STD cell library. The maximum operating frequency is 330MHz with 3,770 gates in equivalent two input NAND gates.

Stability Analysis of a Networked Control System with Multiple Packet Transmission (다중 패킷을 전송하는 네트워크 제어시스템의 안정성 분석)

  • The main objective of this paper is to propose a new stability analysis method for a networked control system with multiple packet transmission. The new scheduling method that can guarantee the maximum time delay and discrete switch state equation model which represent a network data loss is proposed. The equivalent model of a MIMO(multi-input multi-output) networked control system is derived from a state space model of linear time invariant interconnected systems in the form of asynchronous dynamical system. Using this model, this paper presents new stability theorems that can determine stability of the networked control system with regard to time delay, data loss, and the number of transmission packets. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of proposed stability analysis method.

  • This paper suggests a way of generating one-day load curves for performance improvement of peak shaving in a power system. This Peak Shaving algorithm is a long-term scheduling algorithm of PMS (Power Management System) for BESS (Battery Energy Storage System). The main purpose of a PMS is to manage the input and output power from battery modules placed in a power system. Generally, when a Peak Shaving algorithm is used, a difference occurs between predict load curves and real load curves. This paper suggests a way of minimizing the difference by making predict load curves that consider weekly normalization and seasonal load characteristics for smooth energy charging and discharging.

  • Multiple antenna technique is attracting attention as a core technology for next-generation mobile communication systems to accommodate explosively increasing mobile data traffic. Especially, recent researches focus on multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) system where base stations are equipped with several tens of transmit antennas and transmit data to multiple terminals (users) simultaneously. To enhance the performance of MU-MIMO systems, we, in this paper, propose an adaptive user selection algorithm which adaptively selects a user set according to varying channel states. According to Monte-Carlo based computer simulations, the performance of proposed scheme is significantly improved compared to the conventional scheme without user selection and approaches that of exhaustive search-based optimal scheme. On the other hand, the proposed scheme can reduce the computational complexity to $K/(2^K-1)$ compared to the optimal scheme where K denotes the number of total users.

Hardware Design of Bilateral Filter Based on Window Division (윈도우 분할 기반 양방향 필터의 하드웨어 설계)

  • The bilateral filter can reduce the noise while preserving details computing the filtering output at each pixels as the average of neighboring pixels. In this paper, we propose a real-time system based on window division. Overall performance is increased due to the parallel architectures which computes five rows in the kernel window simultaneously but with pipelined scheduling. We consider the tradeoff between the filter performance and the hardware cost and the bit allocation has been determined by PSNR analysis. The proposed architecture is designed with verilogHDL and synthesized using Dongbu Hitek 110nm standard cell library. The proposed architecture shows 416Mpixels/s (397fps) of throughput at 416MHz of operating frequency with 132K gates.

Preventing Network Performance Interference with ACK-Separation Queuing Mechanism in a Home Network Gateway using an Asymmetric Link (비대칭 링크를 사용하는 홈 네트워크 게이트웨이에서 네트워크 성능 간섭 현상을 막기 위한 패킷 스케줄링 기법)

  • In development of network-enabled consumer electronics, much of the time and effort is spent analyzing and solving network performance problems. In this paper, we define an instance of such problems discovered while developing a commercial home network gateway. We then analyze its cause and propose a solution mechanism. Our home network gateway uses art asymmetric link (ADSL) and suffers from an undesirable phenomenon where downlink traffic interferes with upload speed. We call this phenomenon the network performance interference problem. While this problem can easily be confused with receive livelock caused by packet contention at the input queue, we and that this is not the case. By performing extensive experiments and analysis, we reveal that our problem is caused by packet contention at the output queue and certain intrinsic characteristics of TCP. We devise an ACK-separation queuing mechanism for this problem and implement it in the home network gateway Our experiments show that it effectively solves the problem.

  • To find a location, GPS has been wildly used. But, it is hard to use in indoor because of very weak signal level. To meet indoor requirements, there have been many studies applying wireless communication networks such as WLAN, UWB and ZigBee. Among these, ZigBee is widely adopted in many WSN applications because it has an advantage of low-power and low-cost. In ZigBee, the RSSI is used as range measurement for ad-hoc network. The RSSI are converted to ranges using the signal attenuation model and these ranges become inputs of positioning methods. The obtained position with RSSI has large error because of its poor accuracy. To overcome this problem, ultrasonic sensors are added in many researches. By measuring the arrival time difference of ZigBee and ultrasound as a range measurement, the precise position can be found. However, there are still many problems: scheduling of beacons to transmit signals in a correct order, addition and synchronization of beacons and low-rate positioning rate. At this paper, an efficient method to solve these problems is proposed. In the proposed method, a node transmits ZigBee and ultrasound signal simultaneously. And beacons find the range with the received signals and send it back to a node with ZigBee. The position is computed in a node with the received ranges. In addition, a new positioning algorithm to solve the risk of the divergence in the linearization method and the singularity problem in the Savarese method is presented. Both static and dynamic experimental results show 0.02m RMS errors with high output rate.

Enhanced NOW-Sort on a PC Cluster with a Low-Speed Network (저속 네트웍 PC 클러스터상에서 NOW-Sort의 성능향상)

  • External sort on cluster computers requires not only fast internal sorting computation but also careful scheduling of disk input and output and interprocessor communication through networks. This is because the overall time for the execution is determined by reflecting the times for all the jobs involved, and the portion for interprocessor communication and disk I/O operations is significant. In this paper, we improve the sorting performance (sorting throughput) on a cluster of PCs with a low-speed network by developing a new algorithm that enables even distribution of load among processors, and optimizes the disk read and write operations with other computation/communication activities during the sort. Experimental results support the effectiveness of the algorithm. We observe the algorithm reduces the sort time by 45% compared to the previous NOW-sort[1], and provides more scalability in the expansion of the computing nodes of the cluster as well.

  • EC(Electronic Commerce) which is cone the virtual space through Internet, has the advantage of time and space. On the contrary, it also has weak point like security probelm because anybody can easily access to the system due to open network attribute of Internet. Theretore, we need the solutions that protect the EC security problem for safe and useful EC activity. One of these solution is the implemonlation of a strong cipher algorithm. YK2(YoungKu Kang) cipher algorithm proposed in this paper is advantage for the EC security and it overcomes the limit of the current 6/1 bits block cipher algorithm using 128 bits key length for input, output, encryption key and 32 rounds. Moreover, it is degigned for the increase of time complexity and probability calculation by adapting more complex design for key scheduling regarded as one of the important element effected to enciyption.

  • According to the Clinical Research Center for Dementia, 840,000 Koreans aged 65 or older had dementia patients, with a prevalence rate of 10.39%. The prevalence rate is one in 10 elderly people, but difficult for families to take care of them all day. Judged that possible to manage the conditions and schedules of elderly people living alone by utilizing AI speaker system where schedule management is stored. This paper implements modules for AI schedulers in patients with dementia. Configured to link AWS, a remote IOT, inside the raspberry pi, and to output the schedule to speakers using a calendar from Google API. Through this study, judged that ease of scheduling will help manage and schedule dementia patients.
