  • The dynamic model of the suspension system is developed by using both sky-hook control and output feedback control techniques. based on the performance sensitivity index, Many vehicles use sky-hook control theory operated with only one sensor, due to relatively low cost and easy implementation. On the other hand, output feedback control implemented with state variables has difficulties in measuring such as tire deflection, etc.

  • In order to remove the assumption of full state availability which is one of the major difficulties with the practical realization of variable structure control systems,a new switching function with a dynamic structure is proposed. And the control performances of the output feedback variable structure control systems with the dynamic switching function are evaluated through simulation studies. The proposed dynamic switching function is driven by small number of measured output and input variables while conventional static switching function requires full state information. Therefore, the proposition of the dynamic swiching function makes practical implementation of output feedback variable structure control scheme possible for the systems with unmeasurable state variables, high order systems and large scale systems that the conventional variable structure control schemes with static switching function cannot be applied. In the variable structure control systems with the dynamic switching function, desired control performance can be guaranteed by proper choice of design parameters such as poles of switching function dynamic equation and switching control gains even though small number of measured output and input variables are provided as shown in simulation resuls.

  • In this paper, a variable structure dynamic output feedback controller with an transformed sliding surface is designed for the improved robust control of a uncertain system under unmatched system uncertainty, matched input matrix uncertainty, and disturbance satisfying some conditions. This paper is extended from the results of the static output feedback VSS in [9]. To effectively remove the reaching phase problems, an initial condition of the dynamic output is determined. The previous some limitations on the dynamic output feedback variable structure controller is overcome in this systematic design. A stabilizing control is designed to generate the sliding mode on the predetermined sliding surface S=0 and as a results the closed loop exponential stability is obtained and proved together with the existence condition of the sliding mode on S=0 for all unmatched system matrix uncertainties. To show the usefulness of the algorithm, a design example and computer simulations are presented.

  • In this paper, the output feedback control of inverted pendulum systems is experimented for the practicality verification of the linear state observer. For the experiment, a pendulum system, CEM-IP-01 of Cemware Inc. is used and Lagrange equation and Jacobian linearization are adopted for the dynamic analysis of the pendulum system. In addition, the output responses of the state feedback control and the output feedback control of the pendulum system are compared before the experiment by Matlab. Finally, we directly verify the practical use of the linear state observer by recognizing and solving some real problem to control the inverted pendulum system in practice.

  • Advanced Vehicle Control Systems(AVCS) is one of the key elements in Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS). This paper considers the problem of longitudinal control in vehicle platoon on a straight lane of a highway. In a very simplified situation, longitudinal vehicle dynamics contains many nonlinear elements. The nonlinear characteristics are mainly composed of an engine, a torque converter, and a drag force. In this paper, sliding control, one of nonlinear control methods, is applied to longitudinal automated vehicle control for platooning. Output feedback linearization is also simulated for comparison with the sliding control. Simulations for comparative study for the adopted controllers such as sliding control and output feedback linearization are peformed under the same conditions. This Paper aims at clarifying the characteristics of sliding control and output feedback linearization.

  • We present a state-space approach to design a passivity-based dynamic output feedback control of a finite collection of non-square linear systems. We first determine a squaring gain matrix and an additional dynamics that is connected to the systems in a feedforward way, then a static passivating (i.e. rendering passive) control law is designed. Consequently, the actual feedback controller will be the static control law combined with the feedforward dynamics. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the parallel feedfornward compensator (PFC) is given by the static output feedback fomulation, which enables to utilize linear matrix inequality (LMI). The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by some examples including the systems which can be stabilized by the proprotional-derivative (PD) control law.

  • This paper considers the problem of robust $H_{\infty}$ control for uncertain 2-D discrete systems in the General Model via output feedback controllers. The parameter uncertainty is assumed to be norm-bounded. The purpose is the design of output feedback controllers such that the closed-loop system is stable while satisfying a prescribed $H_{\infty}$ performance level. In terms of a linear matrix inequality, a sufficient condition for the solvability of the problem is obtained, and an explicit expression of desired output feedback controllers is given. An example is provided to demonstrate the application of the proposed method.

  • Motivated by the fact that in many industrial robots the joint velocity is estimated from position measurements, the trajectory tracking of robot manipulators with output feedback is addressed in this paper. The fact that robot actuators have limited power is also taken into account. Let us notice that few solutions for the torque-bounded output feedback tracking control problem have been proposed. In this paper we contribute to this subject by presenting a theoretical reexamination of a known controller, by using the theory of singularly perturbed systems. Motivated by this analysis, a redesign of that controller is introduced. As another contribution, we present an experimental evaluation in a two degrees-of-freedom revolute-joint direct-drive robot, confirming the practical feasibility of the proposed approach.

  • This paper presents an LMI-based method to design an output feedback integral sliding mode controller for a class of uncertain systems. Using LMIs we derive an existence condition of a sliding surface. And we give a switching feedback control law. Finally, we give a numerical design example in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The Output feedback linear quadratic regulator control is applied to the design of active suspension system using 7 DOF full car model. The performance index reflects the vehicle vertical movement, pitch and roll motion, and minimization of suspension stroke displacements in the rattle space. The elements of gain matrix are approximately decoupled so that each suspension requires only local information to generate the control force. The simulation results indicates that the output feedback LQ controller is more effective than purely passive or full state feedback active LQ controllers in following the road profile at the low frequency range and suppressing the road disturbance at the high frequency ranges.
