The development of new techniques for the dynamic measurement of linear viscoelastic properties is an active area of rheometry, and this paper surveys some novel deformation geometries which have been recently reported e.g. oscillating probe-type devices which are imbedded in or placed on the surface of the sample. Small amplitude band-limited pseudorandom noise is used for the displacement signal, with Fourier analysis of the complex waveform of the resistance force yielding the frequency dependent viscoelastic material functions (e.g. storage and loss moduli G", G"). Theoretical calculations of the fundamental equations relating force to displacement and instrument geometry, were carried out with the aid of the correspondence principle of linear viscoelasticity. The rapidity of the tests and flexibility in terms of sample preparation and stiffness mean that this basic technique should find many applications in rheometry. Three examples of oscillatory tests are presented in detail squeeze flow, imbedded needle and concentric sliding cylinder geometries.eometries.

Fretting contact and fretting fatigue are known to occur in mechanical devices which have fasteners subjected to oscillatory tangential load. Theoretical studies on fretting contact have been focussed on simple geometries, such as cylindrical contact problem. Recently, the contact problem of a flat rounded punch has been solved theoretically. The purpose of this paper is to show that the results of finite element analysis for the fretting contact problem are nearly consistent with the theoretical solutions.

In this work the Model Algorithmic Control (MAC) method is applied to control the grade change operations in paper mills. The neural network model for the grade change operations is identified first and the impulse model is extracted from the neural network model. Results of simulations for MAC control of grade change operations are compared with plant operation data. The major contribution of the present work is the application of MAC in the industrial plants based on the identification of neural network models. We can confirm that the proposed MAC method exhibits faster responses and less oscillatory behavior compared to the plant operation data in the grade change operations.
Various interpolation methods have been compared for reconstruction of LMR pin power distributions in hexagonal geometry. Interpolation functions are derived for several combinations of nodal quantities and various sets of basis functions, and tested against fine mesh calculations. The test results indicate that the interpolation functions based on the sixth degree polynomial are quite accurate, yielding maximum interpolation errors in power densities less than 0.5%, and maximum reconstruction errors less than 2% for driver assemblies and less than 4% for blanket assemblies. The main contribution to the total reconstruction error is made tv the nodal solution errors and the comer point flux errors. For the polynomial interpolations, the basis monomial set needs to be selected such that the highest powers of x and y are as close as possible. It is also found that polynomials higher than the seventh degree are not adequate because of the oscillatory behavior.
In this paper, the $2^{nd}$ order hydrodynamic force effect of heaving submerged circular cylinder is considered, with the linear potential theory. Boundary value problem (BVP) is expanded up to the $2^{nd}$ order by using of the perturbation method and the $2^{nd}$ order velocity potential is calculated by means of integral equation technique using the classical Green's function expressed in cylindrical coordinates. The method of solving BVP is based on eigenfunction expansions. With different cylinder heights and heaving frequencies, graphical results are presented. As a result of the study, the cause of oscillatory force pattern is analyzed with the occurrence of negative added mass when a top of the cylinder gets closer to the free surface.
Direct Instantaneous Pressure Control(DIPC) method of SRM using pressure predict method is presented in this paper. A hydraulic pump system has an inherent defect that its dynamic behavior causes by interaction between the sensor and hydraulic load. It will make sometimes the whole system become oscillatory and unstable. Proposed system integrates direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) and Smith predictor to improve dynamic performance and stabilization. The proposed hydraulic oil pump system is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.
Rheological Properties of polypropylenes having different molecular structures (linear polypropylene (PPL) and branched one (PPB)) were studied. Both the extensional flow and oscillatory shear flow properties were checked. Especially, the melt strength of polypropylenes having various shear history were investigated by using in-house-made Rheometer (called SMER). Compared to linear polypropylene, the branched polypropylene shows enhanced melt strength during extensional flow due to the retarded relaxation of molecules. When the slope of melt tension was plotted against take up speed of melt strand, the characteristic peak was observed in case of branched polypropylene, while the linear polypropylene shows only monotonously decreasing pattern. This entanglement was partially disrupted by physical forces such as shear during melt extrusion. However, the melt strength of PPB after multiple extrusion is still higher than PPL, implying the loss of elasticity during multiple extrusion is not so comprehensive. On dynamic experiments, PPB shows typical shear thinning behavior and the tangent delta of PPB is lower than PPL, reflecting high elasticity of PPB.
The effect of vertical or horizontal throughflow on natural convection in horizontal porous layer was investigated. The computations were performed by employing Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer equation to consider the effect of inertia and viscous effect. The patterns of streamlines and isotherms are observed by changing the strength of throughflow. The vertical throughflow stabilizes the natural convection in porous layer. It also disturbs the developing vertical and horizontal velocity component of natural convection cell and increases the critical modified Rayleigh number. The horizontal throughflow influences the stabilization of natural convection in porous layer much more than the vertical throughflow. And it changes a stable convection into a oscillatory convection.

This paper proposes a fault diagnosis system for an induction motor. This system uses empirical mode decomposition(EMD) to extract fault signatures and multi-layer perceptron(MLP) neural network to facilitate an accurate fault diagnosis. EMD can not only decompose a signal adaptively but also provide intrinsic mode functions(IMFs) containing natural oscillatory modes of the signal. However, every IMF does not represent fault signature, an IMF selection algorithm based on harmonics and their energy of each IMF is proposed. The selected IMFs are utilized for fault classification using MLP and this system shows approximately 98 % diagnosis accuracy for the fault vibration signal of the induction motor.
