The NOx emission characteristics were studied in an oscillating combustion burner equipped with a specially designed proportioning valve. The effects of various parameters on the NOx emission which are important in oscillating combustion were investigated. Also, the effects of coincident application of flue gas recirculation(FGR) were evaluated. The results show that oscillating combustion is an efficient tool for reducing NOx in the burner. Up to 53% of NOx reduction could be acquired in low frequency and small duty ratio conditions. The coincident application of FGR further reduced the NOx emission up to 74%. Thus, this study assured that oscillating combustion technology with FGR could be a fascinating method for NOx reduction in industrial burners.
This study considers the feasibility of the concentration control of the methanol solution by oscillating flow in the anode channel of passive type Direct Methanol Fuel Cells(DMFC). DMFC stack performance is largely influenced by the fuel concentration. If the fuel concentration is either lower than 0.5M or more than 2M, its performance deteriorates seriously because of the fuel starvation or the fuel crossover. In this respect the optimization of the fuel concentration is crucially important to maximize the DMFC stack performance. In this work, the effects of oscillating actuation in the fuel supply are studied to control the fuel concentration. Two important nondimensional parameters are introduced, each of which represents either the oscillating frequency or the oscillating amplitude. It is shown how these factors affect the stack performance and the efficiency of the DMFC stack.
This paper proposes a new model of the pressure drop for more accurate description of oscillating flow through regenerator under pulsating pressure conditions in contrast to an existing model based on steady flow. For the universal uses of the oscillating flow model, non-dimensional parameters, which consist of Reynolds number, Valensi number gas domain length ratio, oscillating flow friction factor and phase angle of pressure drop, are derived from the capillary tube model of the regenerator. Two correlation equations of the model are obtained from the experiments for the twill square screen regenerators under various operating frequencies and inlet mass flow rates. The oscillating friction factor is a function of only the Reynolds number and the phase angle of pressure drop is a function of the Valensi number and the gas domain length ratio. Experiment is also performed to examine the effects of the shape of screens.
The flame patterns were investigated in an oscillating combustion burner equipped with a specially designed proportioning valve. The proportioning valve is driven by a solenoid and has an elastomer part which controls the valve opening area. For characterizing the valve, nozzle exit velocities were measured with a hot wire anemometry. The flame patterns were investigated by direct photographing methods using a high speed camera and a digital camera. The results show that the nozzle exit velocities could be controlled diversely and rapidly changed, so the valve seemed appropriate for the oscillating combustion burner application. Mushroom shape and highly wrinkled structure were typical features of the flames in the oscillating combustion burner. As the oscillating intensity of the fuel flow increased, the flame length was shortened.
In this paper, self-oscillating mixer is designed by small signal S-parameter and series feedback circuit. The input-output matching circuit is accomplished from double stub and additional matching stub. The self-oscillating mixer is oscillating itself and amplifies without any external local oscillator and an intermediate frequency amplifier, so it has advantages in its economical and system simplification. The experimental results show the maximum conversion gain 1.5d B and the noise figure 6.5d B at RF center frequency 4GHz and IF 1.1GHz` output oscillating power 4d Bm, efficiency 13.4%, stability -10MHz/V and -0.5MHz/\ulcornerC at oscillating frequency 5.1GHz.The rejection band loss characteristics in band pass filter and low pass filter are -40d B and -30d B, respectively.
We prove an analogue of the Robinson-Schensted correspondence between generalized biwords and oscillating semi-standard tableaux. We give a geometric construction of the correspondence and examine combinatorial properties of the correspondence.
When wet-paddy is threshed by conventional auto-fed thresher, the threshed material under the concave is difficult to separate with pneumatic separation only. The development of thresher with an oscillating sieve in addition to the conventional pneumatic separation has been recommanded to improve the separation of grains from straw and chaff having high moisture content. This study was intended to evaluate the separating performance of an oscillating sieve and to obtain the effective operation conditions of the sieve separation. The sieve with oscillating in an elliptical motion was developed and installed in the experimental unit which can simulate the separating operation of the conventional auto-fed thresher. Results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The flowing velocity of grains on oscillating sieve was increased as the sieve frequency increased but the feed rate did not significantly affect the flowing velocity of grains on sieve. 2. The effects of sieve frequency and the direction of sieve rotation on the separating performance by oscillating sieve show that increasing the frequency of sieve driving crank above the 460 rpm in the same direction of material flow (con-flow) improved the separating performance. 3. The height of grain guide plate and air velocity through the sieve to optimize the separating performance of oscillating sieve were experimentally determined to give about 10cm above the sieve and 7 m/s, respectively.
It is essential to find oscillating angles and periods in a seaway when designing and manufacturing stabilizers. It is difficult to find oscillating angles and periods in high speed turning and they vary with ship speed and wave heading angles, therefore, proper algorithm to measure oscillating periods in a seaway. In the present study, three kinds of algorithms are developed to measure oscillating angles periods in a seaway. Dual axis tilt sensor of low price is used to measure oscillating angles, and the effect of lateral accelerations on tilt sensor have been reduced by the fusion algorithm using the gyro sensor signals. Analog and digital filters are applied to minimize the noise of the signals. Three kinds of algorithms, zero crossing, peak to peak and moving zero crossing algorithm, are developed to measure oscillating periods in a seaway. It is found that the moving zero algorithm showed the best results in the sea trials.
An experimental study was conducted to reduce NOx emission in RT(radiant tube)burner by using oscillating combustion processes in RIST. A solenoid valve gives the various oscillating conditions, such as oscillation frequency, duty ratio of fuel flow. In this study, we used commercial software, CFD-ACE+ to predict combustion and NOx emission characteristics for various experimental oscillation conditions. The effect of oscillation frequency and duty ratio on NOx emission will be discussed in terms of flow field, temperature and equivalence ratio distributions in detail.
Flows around two oscillating cylinders in side-by-side arrangement at Re=185 are simulated using immersed boundary method. The cylinders oscillate vertically with prescribed sinusoidal function in opposite directions in uniform cross-flow. Flow patterns and drag & lift forces are described by varying distance between two cylinders and oscillating frequency. Time series of flow patterns are investigated along with corresponding drag k lift coefficients.
