IBM (Immersed Boundary Method) with feedback momentum forcing was applied to stationary and moving bodies. The capability of IBM to treat the obstacle surfaces, especially with moving effect has been tested for two dimensional problems. Stationary and oscillating cylinders were simulated by using IBM based on finite volume method with Cartesian coordinates. For oscillating cylinder, lateral and vertical motions are considered, respectively. Present results such as time histories of drag and lift coefficients for both stationary and oscillating cases are in good agreement with previous numerical and experimental results. Also, the instantaneous wake patterns of oscillating cylinder with different oscillating frequency ratios well represented those of previous researches. More feasibility study for IBM has been carried out to two oscillating cylinders. Drag and lift coefficients are presented for two cylinders oscillating sinusoidally with phase difference of $180^{\circ}$.

Heat transfer and momentum transfer under conditions of both oscillating flow and oscillating pressure within pulse tubes show very different behavior from those for steady state conditions. The analytic solutions of axial velocity and temperature of the gas within pulse tubes were obtained by assuming that the variations in pressure and temperature were purely sinusoidal and small. The shear stress and the heat flux at the tube wall obtained from the solutions are expressed in terms of the cross-sectional averaged velocity, the difference between mean temperature and instantaneous cross-sectional averaged temperature and the difference between mean pressure and instantaneous pressure. It is shown that the complex shear factor, which has been applied to momentum transfer of incompressible oscillating flow, and the complex Nusselt number, which has been applied to either heat transfer with oscillating pressure only or heat transfer of incompressible oscillating flow, could also be used for momentum transfer and heat transfer subjected to both oscillating flow and oscillating pressure, respectively.
The resulting characteristics of vibrations show different patterns for the various oscillating mechanisms. These vibrations causes troublesome operation problems for the operators and sometimes for the machines. Furthermore, in some cases the practical usage of this oscillating mechanism is constrained by its mechanical conditions. In this study, a balanced oscillating tillage tool with triple blades having different acting area was designed. The horizontal and vertical oscillating accelerations and draft power requirement due to the various travel speeds, lift angles, amplitudes and oscillating frequencies were investigated in a laboratory soil bin with a soil having invariable properties. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Overall, the horizontal acceleration decreased as the oscillating frequency and amplitude decreased. But the increase in travel speed caused the decrease horizontal acceleration. The blade with the lift angle of $30^{\circ}$ exhibited the lowest value of horizontal acceleration among the blades tested. 2. For the vertical acceleration, the fluctuating trend of oscillating acceleration was similar to the trend of the horizontal acceleration. 3. The draft power requirement decreased as the amplitude and oscillating frequency increased. But the increase in travel speed caused the increase in draft power requirement. The blade with the lift angle of $10^{\circ}$ showed the lowest value of draft power requirement among the blades tested.
This paper proposes a new oscillating flow model of the pressure drop through the regenerator under pulsating pressure. In this oscillating flow model. pressure drop is expressed by the amplitude and the phase angle with respect to the inlet mass flow rate. In order to generalize the oscillating flow model. non-dimensional parameters, which are Reynolds number, Valensi number, gas domain length ratio, oscillating flow friction factor and phase angle of pressure drop, are derived from the capillary tube model of the regenerator. Correlations for the oscillating flow friction factor and the phase angle are obtained from the experiments for the twill-square screen regenerators under various operating frequencies and inlet mass flow rates. The oscillating friction factor is a function of the Reynolds number alone and the phase angle of pressure drop is a function of the Valensi number and the gas domain length ratio. Experiment is also performed to examine the effect of the weave style of screen. Experimental data demonstrate the superiority of the oscillating flow model over the previous steady flow model.

Fluid flow and heat transfer have been numerically investigated for an oscillating flow in a tube with a regenerator. The regenerator is placed between hot and cold spaces which are heated and cooled at uniform temperature. An oscillating flow is generated by the piston motion at both ends of a tube. The time dependent, two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation are solved by using the finite-volume and moving grid method. The regenerator is adopted as Brinkmann-Forchheimer extended Darcy model. Numerical results are obtained for the flow and temperature fields, and described the effects of the oscillating frequency and amplitude ratio by the piston motion as well as the aspect ratio. The numerical results obtained indicate that the heat transfer between the tube wall and oscillating flow is increased as the oscillating frequency, amplitude ratio and the aspect ratio are increased.
Flow over a sphere under forced oscillation at Re=300 is simulated for various frequency ratios which are defined as excitation frequency over natural frequency of stationary sphere. The results of oscillating sphere are compared with those of stationary sphere and an oscillating cylinder. Detailed vortical structures, hydrodynamic forces and frequencies of the wake are prescribed as a function of frequency ratio. For oscillating sphere, planar symmetry of the wake is kept and two nearly symmetric hair pin vortices are induced by oscillation for one period of oscillation when the frequency ratio is bigger than 0.5. Modulation phenomenon which can be found in an oscillating cylinder were not seen for an oscillating sphere.

In this paper, we characterize the mechanical properties of PCL strand which is made by oscillating nozzle for tissue engineering scaffold. In order to increase the mechanical properties of the PCL strand, we designed an oscillating nozzle system for the 3D plotting system. First, we check the effect of the nozzle speed (3 to 8 mm/sec), frequency (0 or 300 Hz) and the oscillating amplitude (0 or 100 V) on the diameter of the PCL strand. Second, we observe the effect of the frequency (0, 100, 200 and 300 Hz) and the oscillating amplitude (0, 50 and 100 V) on the mechanical property of PCL strand. The mechanical properties and surface morphology of PCL strand made by oscillating nozzle are compared with the PCL strand made by normal nozzle using Nano-UTM and SEM.
This paper is the forth and fifth one of the study on balanced type oscillating mole drainer. In the light of the results from previous reports about the model tests, some design criteria were established and a prototype machine was set up for experimental purpose. Motion characteristics and functionof the each parts of the machine were checked and analyzed. After that, performance tests of the prototype machine were carried out in thefield. Obtained results are summarized as follows ; 1. Ten centimeter of the bullet diameter was determined so as to be able to attach it to the tractors with capacity of 30 PS to 40 PS. 2. To maintain the balance between the moments of the front shank and rear shank, the oscillating amplitude of the rear bullet was determined to be larger than that of the front bullet. At the same time , the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was designed with the inclines of ten to thirty degrees. 3. An octagonal dynamo transduced was developed for measuring the compressive force of the upper link is measuring the draft force of the machine. Acceptable linear relationship between forces and strain responses from O.D.T. was obtained. 4. Analysing the balancing mechanism of the acting part of the machine , it was found that the total draft force of the machine was equal to the difference between the sum of the draft force produced from the right and left side bending moments of the lower drawber and the compressive force on the upper link. 5. There are acceptable linear relationship between the strain and twisting moment by driving shaft, and between strain and shank moment. Above results enable us to carry out the field experiment with prototype machine. 6. When the test machine was used in the field, it was possible to reduce the oscillating acceleration by forty percent in average as compared it with the single bullet mole drainer. 7. When the test machine was used under the oscillating condition, the dratt torce was reduced by 27 percent to 59 percent as compared it with the test machine under non-oscillating condition, while the draft force was increased by 7 percent to 20 percent as compared it with the mole drainer having oscillating single bullet. The reasoning behind this fact was considered as the resistance force due to the rear shank and bullet. 8. As the amplitude and frequency of the bullet were increased, the torque was increased accordingly. This tendency could be varied with the various characteristics of the given soils. And the larger frequency and amplitute, the more increasing oscil\ulcornerlating power but decreasing draft brce were needed, and draft force was increased as the velocity was increased.9. When the amplitude of the rear bullet was designed to be larger than that of the front bullet, the minimum value of the moment was lowered and oscillating acceleration was reduced. And when the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was declined back\ulcornerwards, oscillating acceleration was increased along with the increasing angle of decli\ulcornernation. When the test machine was operated in high speed, the difference between maximum moments and minimum ones became narrow. This varying magnitude of moments appeared on the moment oscillogram seems to be correlated to the oscillating acceleration and draft force. 10. From the analysis of variance, it was found that those factors such as frequency, amplitude, and operating velocity significantly affected in the oscillating acceleration, the draft resistance, the torque, the moment, and the total power required. And interaction between frequency and amplitude affected in the oscillating acceleration. 11. Within the given situation of this study, the most preferable operating conditions of the test machine were 7 Hz in oscillating frequency, 0.54 m/sec in operating velocity, and 39.1 mm in oscillating amplitude of front and rear bullets. However, it is necessary to select the proper frequency and magnitude of oscillation depending on the soil properties of the field in which the mole drainer is practiced by use of a bal1nced type oscillating mole drainer. 12. It is recommended that a comparative study of the mole drainers would be performed in the near future using two separate balanced oscillating bullet with the one which is operated by oscillating the movable bullet in a single cylinder or other balanced type which may be single oscillating bullet with spring, damper or balancing weight, and that of thing. To expand the applicability of the balanced type oscillating mole drainer in practical use, it is suggested to develop a new mechanism which perform mole drain with vinyl pipe or filling material such as rice hull.

An experimental study was carried out in a small-scale test furnace to investigate the performance, such as $NO_X$ emission, enhancement of heat transfer, uniformity of temperature, and etc, of oscillating combustion applied in radiant tube burner system. A premixed type burner and a cyclic oscillating control valve were designed and used. The fuel, used commercial LPG in this study, was only oscillated using the cyclic oscillating control valve. As oscillating combustion was applied in radiant tube burner system, it is found that $NO_X$ emission, compared to no oscillation, could be reduced by 38% at $90{\sim}120rpm\;(1.5{\sim}2.0Hz)$. However, as oscillating frequency was increased, effect of abatement of $NO_X$ emission is gradually reduced. From the measurement of furnace heating time from $100^{\circ}C$ to $720^{\circ}C$, heat transfer is increased by 11.5% at the oscillation of 120rpm. Temperature distribution of radiant tube surface is more uniform at oscillation of 120rpm with decrease of the peak temperature and increase of low temperature. From these results, it is confirmed that oscillating combustion is useful in radiant tube burner system.
The flame patterns were investigated in an oscillating combustion burner equipped with a proportioning valve. The proportioning valve is driven by a solenoid and has an elastomer part which controls the valve opening area. For characterizing the valve, nozzle exit velocities were measured with a Hot Wire Anemometry. The flame patterns were investigated by direct photographing methods using a high speed camera and a digital camera. The results show that the nozzle exit velocities could be controlled diversely and rose up and fell down abruptly, so the valve seemed appropriate for the application for the oscillating combustion burner. Mushroom shaped and highly wrinkled flames were a typical features of the oscillating combustion burner. As the oscillating intensity of the fuel flow increased, the flame length was shortened.
