Objectives : This study was conducted to examine the clinical effects of thread embedding acupuncture on lumbar herniated intervertebral disc patients. Methods : This is a retrospective study based on clinical charts. Despite the treatments of acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, and physical therapy during admission period, 10 lumbar herniated intervertebral disc patients who had shown few improvements in their symptoms were selected as subjects. Thread embedding acupuncture was conducted to reduce patient pain. Patient progress was categorized into three periods based on when the embedding procedure performed. Verbal numeric rating scale (VNRS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), and a 5 step evaluation scale for satisfaction were used to analyze the outcome. Results : Regarding comparison of VNRS improvement rate, both 3 and 6 days after embedding progress showed significant difference compared to before embedding progress. ODI improvement rate showed significant difference only 6 days after embedding progress. Patients' satisfaction with treatment had increased by several degrees. Conclusion : Thread embedding acupuncture for lumbar herniated intervertebral disc patients may be effective in reducing pain and improving their quality of life.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between patients' characteristics and the beginning period of improvement, as well as contribute to the efficient management of Bell's palsy patients. Methods : The subjects were 94 patients with Bell's palsy. This study was carried out through the use of an administrative database that included patients' characteristics and clinical information. The analysis of the beginning period of improvement by gender, hypertension, diabetes, drinking history, smoking history and facial palsy history was conducted by independent sample t-test. The analysis of the beginning period of improvement by age, House-Brackmann grade, Yanagihara scale and period receiving Korean medical treatment was conducted by Pearson's correlation analysis. Further analysis of the beginning period of improvement by associated symptoms and seasons was conducted by one-way analysis of variance. Results : 1. Significant correlations were not found between the beginning period of improvement and gender, age, season, smoking history, drinking history, facial palsy history, House-Brackmann grade, Yanagihara scale, hypertension, diabetes or associated symptoms. 2. There was significant correlation between the period of receiving Korean medical treatment and the beginning period of improvement. Conclusion : In this study, the earlier that patients received korean medicine treatment after onset, the earlier that the beginning period of improvement could be seen. Therefore, for the efficient management of facial paralysis patients, it is expected to help secure a baseline.

The purpose of this study was to study clinical characteristics of patients complained of tremor and to evaluate availability of oriental medical treatment. This observation was made on 36 cases that were hospitalized in the Semyung University Oriental Medicine Hospital and evaluated tremor using clinical rating tremor scale(CRTS). The ratio of patients were essential tremor(50%), parkinson's disease(13.9%), psychogenic tremor(13.9%), physiologic tremor(11.1%), cerebellar tremor(11.1%). CRTS score of essential tremor patients decreased significantly. Physiologic tremor patients's CRTS score were under 15 points. Every patient's scores decreased. Two patients's score decreased to 0 point. Every patient were treated with Bojungikki-tang-gamibang. CRTS scores of psychogenic tremor patients were various.(4~24 points) Two patients's scores decreased to 0 point. The CRTS scores of three cases among four patients with cerebellar tremor were not changed. Changes of CRTS score between oriental medication group and western-oriental combined medication group were statistically significant. Changes of CRTS score between over 15 points group and under 15 points group were statistically significant. Kejigayongolmoryo-tang was one of the most widely used herbal medication, which was diagnosed as ascendant hyperactivity of liver yang.
