  • The X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP) is a member of a novel family of inhibitors of apoptosis and has several BIR domains (BIR1, BIR2, and BIR3) and a carboxy-terminal RING zinc-finger. Since suppressionof apoptosis is fundamentally important for carcinogenesis and tumor growth, we investigated the expression and function of XIAP in DEN-induced carcinogenesis using rat model. Wistar rats were injected intraperitoneally with DEN at a dose of 50 mg/kg in twice a week for 12 weeks (Group II) and 16 weeks (Group III) followed by the recovery periods, respectively. The evaluation of DEN-induced carcinogenesis carried out the blood, RT-PCR, histopathological and western blot analysis. The level of blood chemistry including GOT/GPT, albumin, and total bilirubin were significantly exchanged comparing to control and Group I/Group II. The expression of albumin and collagen mRNA were significantly exchanged (P<0.05) in both groups. In addition, AFP mRNA expression decreased more after recovery periods than Group II. XIAP was expressed constitutively in normal rat liver as well as DEN-induced Groups I and Group II. In addition, XIAP expression increased more in Group I with 4 weeks recovery periods than Group I. However, XIAP expression shown to increase in Group lI, otherwise, it was decreased in Group II with 10 weeks repair periods. Taken together, these results suggest the alteration of XIAP expression could be involved in hepatocellular carcinogenesis.

He didn't segregate philosophy of the West from One of the Orient. He persued to harmonize each other and thought that the Western medicint theory is included in the Chinese one in many parts. besides, He recognized that it is bad to reject each other, for the medical science's purpose is to save a life, and united The Chinese-Western medicine theory, by $ch\acute{u}ng$ $ch\tilde{u}ng$ $ch\bar{u}ng$ $ts'\bar{a}n$ $hs\bar{l}$'(衷中參西) idea which refers to consult the Western medicine on the basis of the Chinese one. • It is very important to establish precisely the historical phases of nursing. We nurses should try to acquire the central social position in the health management system in the near the future, the 21st Century. Therefore my treatise aims to orient the desirable phases of the history of nursing through the feministic survey of the history of nursing from the post medieval epoche to the modern epoche. During the time of the renaissance which gave morning light to the modern epoche, the antique Athenian thinking of sex was again revived. Athenian excluded the women from the public and autonomous regions. All the medical activity, once dominated by the women, was misfortunately regarded as superstition acted by witches. Accordingly, the nursing women were to hunted as witches. In short, in the early modern epoche, women began to be excluded from the history of medical activities. In the middle modern epoche characterized by the enlightenment movement and early capital economic system, capitalistic patriarchal system began to be formed by change in the economic system. The status of women began to be greatly dropped below by the social distinction of the private dimension of home and the Public dimension of job. The woman was deprived of even the occasion to get the official license of medicine and medical institutions were handed to the state or the powerful and rich merchants. Accordingly, nursing acted mainly in the nunnery as the total approach to the patients was destructed wholly and transformed into the means of earning the money. Therefore unprepared low class -women began to engage in nursing only for the money. From then on, nursing activity was tunneled through the dark age for 200 years. In the late modern epoche characterized by the contrast of the accumulated vast capital by industrialization and vast poverty of the peoples, feminism began to float over the surface for the acquisition of equality of men and women from England. A feminist, Nightingale insisted that the women as nurses should be responsible for the healthy life of man. She tried the professional nursing education for women. Accordingly she not only contributed to the intellectual progress of women but also inspired in women the consciousness of the professional job. She tried to realize the ideal of at-that-time-feminists by engaging in nursing all through life. She really paved the road to contemporary nursing. In the near the future, I will write to describe how the late modern epoche nursing has fallen into the dilemma through the 1st and 2nd world wars and matured capitalism and to consider contemporary nursing with the status of women. All these papers aim to give proper recognition of nursing and right orientation of the future 21st Century nursing.

  • The moxibustion therapy of orient medical is well known. Moxibustion method is used to burning moxibustion. The variation factors of the moxibustion stimulation for body can be applied to the electronic moxibustion method. This study is to analyze and examine the electroencephalogram(EEG) variations for moxibustion stimulation. In experiment, we divided six healthy male subjects into two same sized groups : with and without stimuli. The given stimuli are the moxibustion for CV4(Kwan-Won), CV8(Shin-Guel), and CV12(Jung-wan) acupuncture points. We have analyzed the power spectrum for ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\delta}$, ${\Theta}$ waves and the average EEG variation level and each channels variation level of EEG. The result was that the moxibustion stimulation decreased the EEG levels of parietal lobe(ch 2, 3, 6, 7) according to the somatosensory system. And the apparent different points are that mild-heat($42{\sim}44^{\circ}C$) stimulation generating ${\alpha}$-wave is increased and ${\beta}$-wave is decreased, also slight-hot($45{\sim}48^{\circ}C$) stimulation made ${\alpha}$-wave decrease and ${\beta}$-wave increase for occipital lobe(ch 4,8) on the simulation group.

  • The root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer has been used as a traditional anti-aging and anti-wrinkle agent in the Orient. However, it is still unknown which component of ginseng is effective at suppressing wrinkle formation. Recently at least twenty ginsenosides regarded as the main active ingredients of ginseng have been isolated. Among them, we examined the effect of ginsenoside Rg3 on dermal ECM metabolism to elucidate the mechanism of anti-wrinkle by ginseng. In our study, to investigate the anti-wrinkle effect of the ginsenoside Rg3, ECM component and growth factor in dennis were evaluated by ELISA assay. Ginsenoside Rg3 was found to stimulate type I procollagen and fibronectin (FN) biosynthesis in a dose-dependent manner in normal human fibroblast culture (p < 0.05, n =3), and dose-dependently enhance TGF- ${\beta}$1 level (p < 0.05, n =3). In RT-PCR analysis mRNA level of c-Jun, a member of AP-1 transcription factor, was reduced by ginsenoside Rg3 in normal human fibroblast culture. These results indicate that ginsenoside Rg3 stimulates type I collagen and FN synthesis through the changes of TGF - ${\beta}$1 and AP-1 expression in fibroblasts.

  • Various extracts of higher plants have been used in traditional medicine systems for centuries. While tropical and sub-tropical plants have received considerable attention from the researchers for evaluation of their bioactivity, temeperate plants have always been neglected somewhat. Similarly, seeds of the plants have not been considered seriously compared to other plant parts, e.g. leaves, stems, roots, flowers, etc. as a potential source for biologically active compounds. As part of our on-going evaluation of the extracts of the seeds of temperate plants, especially from Scotland, for biological activity, Achillea millefolium, Angelica sylvestris and Phleum pratense have been chosen for the present study. Both A. millefolium and A. sylvestris are well known for their traditional medicinal uses in Europe and also in the orient, but there is no report on any medicinal properties of P. pratense available to date. Extracts of the seeds of these plants have been assessed for their antioxidant and antibacterial potential and also for general toxicity. Both DCM and MeOH extracts of A. millefolium showed the most significant broad spectrum antibacterial activity among the three plants and inhibited the growth of almost all test strains of bacteria. The DCM extracts of all three species were active against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Citrobacter freundii $(MIC=6.25{\times}10^{-1}\;mg/mL)$. While the MeOH extracts of A. millefolium and P. pratense were active against C. freundii, that of P. pratense was also active against MRSA. The MeOH extract of A. sylvestris did not show any antibacterial activity against any of the eight bacterial strains at test concentrations. The MeOH extract of P. pratense showed the most prominent antioxidant activity $(IC_{50}=145\;{\mu}g/ml)$ and there was no antioxidant activity observed with the DCM extract of A. millefolium. The DCM extract of P. pratense was the most toxic $(LC_{50}=20\;{\mu}g/ml)$ among the extracts.

  • The prognosis for class III patients in growing child can be made in mixed dentition and the severity of the symptom is often amenable to early intervention. Class III malocclusion can be classified as functional class lit and skeletal origin. Skeletal Class III malocclusion is usually characterized by overdeveloped mandible, underdeveloped maxilla, but the cause of pseudo class III is most dentoalveolar or functional shift of mandible. The primary goal of early intervention of malocclusion is to supply an environment that is conducive to the development of favorable occlusal relationships and avoiding of worsening of the problems. Inverted labial bow appliance is introduced as an appliance to combine the advantage of active plate and activator. It is undemanding with this appliance to initiate not only dentoalveolar expansion of upper dentition but also to orient the functional retrusion of mandible. With simple design the compliance for patients such as mouth breathing problem can be improved. For successful use of this appliance it is utmost important to make accurate and early diagnosis between pseudo- and skeletal class III malocclusion. This article will demonstrate the use of an Inverted labial bow appliance for early treatment of a functional Class III malocclusion. After 4 month treatment, anterior crossbite was treated and the results were achieved mainly dentoalveolar change of upper and lower anterior teeth.

  • In 1492 year, the corn originated in America continent had spread all over the world after spreading into Europe by Columbus. Since the Corn had a similar shape with adlai's one (Yulmoo(율무)), it had been written by the different name of adlai (Yulmoo) at the "訓蒙字會(Hun-mong-ja-hoe)(1527)". Therefore we should consider "Hun-mong-ja-hoe" is the first record of the corn and it is a significant historic record in the civilization exchange between the Orient and the Occident that this record has the only difference of around 30 years later after the spreading corn to Europe. However, this is on the assumption that it is correct for a scholar of Korean literature to persist in that '叡山本' of "Hun-mong-ja-hoe" could be considered as the first edition. The corn had been once classified as a same kind of the Chinese millet because the people had been recognized the corn as a similar group of the Chinese millet and the Indian millet. The Chinese millet contains a summer vigor and becomes as an ingredient of alcoholic drink. And we can find out that $C_4$ type plant (such as corn, Chinese millet, Indian millet, foxtail millet) mostly have a tendency to belong to the food for "Taeumin(太陰人)", because of its high energy efficiency, a flourishing absorption of fertilizing and a strong emission power. The fried corn with a strong summer vigor and a raised feature has a good effect to the treatment of the teethridge disease. And the tea of corn with an warm feature, thanks to its functions of making the stomach and intestines comfortably as well as urination, is a proper food for the 'Taeumin" who is apt to overeat themselves.

  • The present study was carried out to investigate the antiobesity effects of Platycodon grndiflorum extract on body weight changes and serum lipid composition of rats fed high fat diet. The Platycodon grandiflorum has been widely used as a folk food in the Orient for many centuries. We had experiment with Platycodon grandiflorum extract in order to find cure effects for obesty. The changes of the body weights in Platycodon ggrandiflorum extract treatment group showed a decrease in comparison with control group. Weekly body weights of PG group are respectively 243.7$\pm$2.0g, 283.5$\pm$4.3 g, 310.5$\pm$6.5 g, 333.2$\pm$7.5 g, 361.0$\pm$10.4 g, 390.5$\pm$11.5 g, 436.0$\pm$11.8 g, 454.4$\pm$11.4 g, 484.4$\pm$10.1 g. Body weight of PC groups are decreased compared with those of control group, but the rates are not significant. Total cholesterol of PG group(77.2$\pm$3.3 mg/dl) is decreased by 7.0% compared with that of control group. Serum triglyceride of PG group(103.6$\pm$9.0mg/dl) is decreased by 21.1% compared with that of control group. Serum free fatty acid of PG group(630.1$\pm$45.9 $\mu$Eq/l) is decreased by 19.6% .compared with that of control group. Total lipid amount of PG group(393.6$\pm$23.7 mg/dl) is decreased by 9.1% compared with that of control group. The above results suggest that Platycodon grandiflorum extract could prevent or cure metabolic diseases by preventing hyperlipemia caused by high fat diet.

  • Recently, Software Development was applied to new-approach methods as a various form : client-server system and web-programing, object-orient concept, distributed development with a network environments. On the other hand, it be concerned about the distributed development technology and increasing of object-oriented methodology. These technology is spread out the software quality and improve of software production, reduction of the software develop working. Futures, we considered about the distributed software development technique with a many workstation. In this paper, we discussed optimal release problem based on a stochastic differential equation model for the distributed Software development environments. In the past, the software reliability applied to quality a rough guess with a software development process and approach by the estimation of reliability for a test progress. But, in this paper, we decided to optimal release times two method: first, SRGM with an error counting model in fault detection phase by NHPP. Second, fault detection is change of continuous random variable by SDE(stochastic differential equation). Here, we decide to optimal release time as a minimum cost form the detected failure data and debugging fault data during the system test phase and operational phase. Especially, we discussed to limitation of reliability considering of total software cost probability distribution.
