Recently, an AC Plasma Display Panels(PDP) with the metal sustain electrodes have been reported in order to reduce the manufacturing cost of the AC PDP. However, the luminance and efficacy of the AC PDP with metal electrodes are worse than those of the AC PDP with ITO electrodes. In this paper, various ${\prod}$type metal electrodes are suggested, in order to improve the electro-optical characteristics of the AC PDP with metal electrodes. Among the suggested electrode types, luminance of Hump electrode structure is higher by $40\;cd/m^2$ and discharge current of Asymmetry electrode structure is lower by 5% than those of Pi electrode structure, respectively. Moreover, $T_1$ of Hump electrode structure is reduced to 10% as compared with Pi electrode structure in address period for ADS driving scheme. In all aspects, the characteristics of Hump and Asymmetry electrode structure show best performance.
In order to remove the assumption of full state availability which is one of the major difficulties with the practical realization of variable structure control systems,a new switching function with a dynamic structure is proposed. And the control performances of the output feedback variable structure control systems with the dynamic switching function are evaluated through simulation studies. The proposed dynamic switching function is driven by small number of measured output and input variables while conventional static switching function requires full state information. Therefore, the proposition of the dynamic swiching function makes practical implementation of output feedback variable structure control scheme possible for the systems with unmeasurable state variables, high order systems and large scale systems that the conventional variable structure control schemes with static switching function cannot be applied. In the variable structure control systems with the dynamic switching function, desired control performance can be guaranteed by proper choice of design parameters such as poles of switching function dynamic equation and switching control gains even though small number of measured output and input variables are provided as shown in simulation resuls.

The nonlinear thermal buckling load parameter of the laminated composite panel structure is investigated numerically using the higher-order theory including the stretching effect through the thickness and presented in this research article. The large geometrical distortion of the curved panel structure due to the elevated thermal loading is modeled via Green-Lagrange strain field including all of the higher-order terms to achieve the required generality. The desired solutions are obtained numerically using the finite element steps in conjunction with the direct iterative method. The concurrence of the present nonlinear panel model has been established via adequate comparison study with available published data. Finally, the effect of different influential parameters which affect the nonlinear buckling strength of laminated composite structure are examined through numerous numerical examples and discussed in details.
In this study, we report niobium (Nb) with hierarchical porous structure produced by a one-pot, HF-free electrochemical etching process. It is proved experimentally that a well-defined hierarchical porous structure is produced from the combination of a limited repetition of pulse etching and high concentration of aggressive anion (i.e., SO42-), which results in hierarchical pores with high order over 3. A formula is derived for the surface area of porous Nb as a function of the hierarchical order of pores while the experimental surface area is estimated on the basis of the electrochemical gas evolution rate on porous Nb. From the comparison of the theoretical and experimental surface areas, an in-depth understanding was gained about porous structure produced in this work in terms of the actual pore shape and hierarchical pore order.

This paper presents an advanced computational method for the prediction of the responses in the frequency domain of general linear dissipative structural-acoustic and fluid-structure systems, in the low-and medium-frequency domains and this includes uncertainty quantification. The system under consideration is constituted of a deformable dissipative structure that is coupled with an internal dissipative acoustic fluid. This includes wall acoustic impedances and it is surrounded by an infinite acoustic fluid. The system is submitted to given internal and external acoustic sources and to the prescribed mechanical forces. An efficient reduced-order computational model is constructed by using a finite element discretization for the structure and an internal acoustic fluid. The external acoustic fluid is treated by using an appropriate boundary element method in the frequency domain. All the required modeling aspects for the analysis of the medium-frequency domain have been introduced namely, a viscoelastic behavior for the structure, an appropriate dissipative model for the internal acoustic fluid that includes wall acoustic impedance and a model of uncertainty in particular for the modeling errors. This advanced computational formulation, corresponding to new extensions and complements with respect to the state-of-the-art are well adapted for the development of a new generation of software, in particular for parallel computers.
The benefit of data fusion in improving the performance of Higher Order Sliding Mode (HOSM) observer is brought out in this paper. This improvement in the performance of HOSM observer, resulted in the improvement of active vibration control of a piezo actuated structure, when controlled by a Discrete Sliding Mode Controller (DSMC). The structure is embedded with two piezo sensors for measuring the first two vibrating modes. The fused output of sensors is applied to the HOSM observer for generating state estimates, these states generated are applied to the DSMC, designed for the fourth order linear time invariant model of the structure. In the simulation study, the structure is excited at the first and second mode resonance. It is found that better vibration suppression is obtained, when the states generated by the fused output of sensors is applied as controller input, than the vibration suppression obtained by applying the states generated by using individual sensor output. The closed loop performance of DSMC obtained with HOSM observer is compared with the closed loop performance obtained with the conventional observer. Results obtained shows that better vibration suppression is obtained when the states generated by HOSM observer is applied as controller input.
The determination of firing order is very significant procedure in initial stage of design for medium speed diesel engine. Generally, the selection of firing order has been accomplished in view of minimum excitation forces condition. In this paper all possible firing orders under the given number of cylinder were considered to decide the optimum. Meanwhile torsional vibration characteristics using the phase vector sum method and minimum excitation force concept were applied. From these results, some superior cases were selected. And then, the torsional vibration response analysis and the resonance characteristics of engine structure were investigated for the final decision.
There have been several control schemes for the single input systems with unmeasurable state variables using variable structure control(VSC) theory. In the previous VSC, the systems must be represented in phase canonical form and the complete measurements for each state variable must be assumed. In order to eliminate these restrictions several VSC methods were proposed. And especially for the systems in phase canonical form with unmeasurable state variables, the reduced order switching function algorithm was proposed. But this method has many drawbacks and can not be used in the case of general form (not phase canonical form) dynamic system. Therefore this paper propose new construction method of switching fuction for the systems in phase canonical form, which reduce the restriction of reduced order switching function algorithm. And this algorithm can be realized for any state representation and adopted in the systems where not all states are available for switching function synthesis or control.
Wind-induced and earthquake-induced excitations on tall structures can be effectively controlled by Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD). This work presents a numerical simulation procedure to study the performance of tuned liquid tank- structure system through ${\sigma}$-transformation based fluid-structure coupled solver. For this, a 'C' based computational code is developed. Structural equations are coupled with fluid equations in order to achieve the transfer of sloshing forces to structure for damping. Structural equations are solved by fourth order Runge-Kutta method while fluid equations are solved using finite difference based sigma transformed algorithm. Code is validated with previously published results. The minimum displacement of structure is observed when the resonance condition of the coupled system is satisfied through proper tuning of TLD. Since real-time excitations are random in nature, the performance study of TLD under random excitation is also carried out in which the Bretschneider spectrum is used to generate the random input wave.
