The authors reviewed 95 cases(46 men and 49 women) of the orbital tumors diagnosed histopathologically at the Department of Ophthalmology, Yeungnam University Hospital from March 1984 through August 1994. Seventy-five cases of benign tumors were found evenly in all decades, but twenty cases of malignant tumors were noticed more frequently in 1st, 6th, and 7th decades. The frequency of benign orbital tumors was in this order; dermolipoma(21%, 20 cases), dermoid cyst(11.6%, 11 cases), mucocele(8.4%, 8 cases), lipoma(7.4%, 7 cases) and pleomorphic adenoma(5.3%, 5 cases). Of malignant orbital tumors, the frequency was in this order; retinoblastoma(3 cases), malignant melanoma(2 cases), sebaceous carcinoma(2 cases), and maxillary sinus carcinoma(2 cases). Malignant orbital tumors of 8 expired patients were revealed as secondary or metastatic tumors.

The orbit has a very special anatomical structure. The complex anatomical structure should be restored when we encounter the patient with orbital wall fracture. Unless these specific anatomy were reconstructed well, the patient should suffer from various complications such enophthalmos, diplopia or orbital deformity. In addition, because the patient has a his own specific orbital shape, individualized approach will be necessary. The aim of this trial is to try to restore the original orbit anatomy as possible based on the mirrored three dimensional CT images based on the computer simulation. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) data were processed for the patient and a rapid prototyping (RP) model was produced. At the same time, the uninjured side was mirrored and superimposed onto the traumatized side, to create a mirror-image of the RP model. In order to restore the missing skipped images between the cuts of CT data because of the thinness of the orbital walls, we manipulated the DICOM data for imaging the original orbital contour using the preoperatively manufactured mirror-image of the RP model. And we fabricated Titanium-Medpor to reconstruct three-dimensional orbital structure intraoperatively. This prefabricated Titanium-Medpor was then inserted onto the defected orbital wall and fixed. Three dimensional approach based on the computer simulation turned out to be very successful in this patient. Individualized approach for each patient could be an ideal way to manage the traumatic patients in near future.

This paper presents an investigation into the pinhead forming process with the objective of finding the optimal forming conditions. In order to this, the orbital forming analysis of a heading MIG was carried out using the explicit finite element method. Relationships between temperature by forming of load and stresses, rake angle by forming final shape and stress distribution were investigated through analysises in order to find an efficient solution. As a result, the higher temperature and orbital rake angle were the better forming conditions.
Currently, in order to achieve accurate geolocation of satellite images we need to generate control points from individual scenes. This requirement increases the cost and processing time of satellite mapping greatly. In this paper we investigate the feasibility of modeling entire image strips that has been acquired from the same orbital segments. We tested sensor models based on satellite orbit and attitude with different sets of unknowns. We checked the accuracy of orbit modeling by establishing sensor models of one scene using control points extracted from the scene and by applying the models to adjacent scenes within the same orbital segments. Results indicated that modeling of individual scenes with $2^{nd}$ order unknowns was recommended. In this case, unknown parameters were position biases, drifts, accelerations and attitude biases. Results also indicated that modeling of orbital segments with zero-degree unknowns was recommended. In this case, unknown parameters were attitude biases.
Purpose: As the use of computed tomographic scanning spread, the diagnosis of blow-out fractures of the medial orbital wall increased. Conventionally, the surgery of blow-out fractures in medial orbital wall was performed by various approaches with external incision or endoscopic approach. Although the field of orbital surgery has progressed significantly during the last decade, accurate realignment and replacement of component is difficult due to lack of visualization of the fracture site, blind dissection of the orbital wall, and difficulty in insertion of implant. In order to overcome these shortcomings, we explored the use of endoscopic transnasal approach together with subciliary approach. Methods: The entrapped periorbital tissues in the ethmoid sinus were completely reduced endoscopically, and the bone defect of medial orbital wall was reconstructed with $Medpor^{(R)}$ insertion via subciliary approach. This technique was applied to 13 patients who had medial orbital wall fracture. Results: The patients were followed-up for 3 to 24 months with an average of 9 months. The postoperative courses were satisfactory in all cases. Conclusion: The conjunction of endoscopic transnasal and subciliary approach technique seems to produce good results in medial orbital wall fracture.

An orbital grinding system uses a special motion to machine crankshafts in ships. When a crankshaft is operated, eccentric pins rotate and a grinding wheel moves in order to grind the pins. Thermal error caused by heat generated in the grinding process decreases the quality of the final product. In this study, the thermal error of an orbital grinding system caused by heat generation was investigated in order to predict the extent of thermal error that can occur during the grinding process. Since the machine position changes during orbital grinding, the pin part is divided into 30 degree intervals and heat is generated. Total thermal error was measured by summing the thermal errors associated with the pin and the grinding wheel. Total thermal error was found to reach a maximum at 60 degrees and a minimum at 210 degrees because of the shape of the crankshaft.
Magnetite is the oldest magnet material known to mankind. It is getting attention again from solid state physics researchers now a days because it is one of the most strongly correlated electron systems. Spin, charge, and orbital orders are interplaying with lattice and involved in the Verwey transition where magnetization, conductivity, and structure changes suddenly. The peculiar ordering states above and below the transition temperature mainly originate from the coexistence of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the B site of the inverse spinel structure. In particular, the state of the charge and orbital order was the oldest and most intriguing problem. NMR has made significant contribution to the investigation of this question. A. Abragam stated that there is no doubt that NMR is a very powerful tool for the study of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic materials. In this mini-review, a short history of NMR investigation of magnetite is presented, providing a support to Abragam's claim.

Titanium micro-mesh implants are widely used in orbital wall reconstructions because they have several advantageous characteristics. However, the rough and irregular marginal spurs of the cut edges of the titanium mesh sheet impede the efficacious and minimally traumatic insertion of the implant, because these spurs may catch or hook the orbital soft tissue, skin, or conjunctiva during the insertion procedure. In order to prevent this problem, we developed an easy method of inserting a titanium micro-mesh, in which it is wrapped with the aseptic transparent plastic film that is used to pack surgical instruments or is attached to one side of the inner suture package. Fifty-four patients underwent orbital wall reconstruction using a transconjunctival or transcutaneous approach. The wrapped implant was easily inserted without catching or injuring the orbital soft tissue, skin, or conjunctiva. In most cases, the implant was inserted in one attempt. Postoperative computed tomographic scans showed excellent placement of the titanium micro-mesh and adequate anatomic reconstruction of the orbital walls. This wrapping insertion method may be useful for making the insertion of titanium micro-mesh implants in the reconstruction of orbital wall fractures easier and less traumatic.

Advanced space transportation systems, such as the National Aerospace Plane or an Orbital Transfer Vehicle, have atmospheric maneuvering capabilities. For such vehicles the use of aeroassisted orbital transfer from a high Earth orbit to a low Earth orbit, with unpowered flight in the atmosphere, has the potential for significant fuel savings compared to exoatmospheric Hohmann transfer. However, to exploit the fuel savings that can be achieved by using the Earths atmosphere to reduce the vehicles energy, a guidance law is required, and it must be able to handle large unpredictable fluctuations in atmospheric density, on the order of ${\pm}$50% relative to the 1962 US Standard Atmosphere. In this paper aeroassisted orbital transfer is considered as a differential game, with Nature controlling the atmosphere density to yield a worst case (min-max fuel required) atmosphere, from which the guaranteed playable set boundary are achieved. Inside the playable set, it is guaranteed that the vehicle achieves the optimal atmospheric exit condition for the minimum fuel consumption regardless of the atmospheric density variations.

In this paper, a specifically designed waveguide structure that can carry first, and second-order orbital angular momentum(: OAM) mode is proposed. The proposed optical waveguide consists of three Si stripes embedded in $SiO_2$, which is suitable for implementing on-chip integration and fabrication by standard thin film deposition and etching processes. The second-order OAM mode was generated by combining two eigenmodes, which are calculated by finite difference method(: FDM). The topological charge number of the first, and second-order OAM mode was calculated as l=0.9642 and 1.8766 respectively, which is close to the theoretical value.
