A laboratory jar fermenter was modified to measure the duration for cooling water supply and the temperatures of the coolant at the inlet and outlet of water jacket. Successful operation of temperature control and on-line measurement was achieved by adjusting optimum parameters of the Proportion-Integral-Derivative temperature controller. The variables measured on-line were used to estimate cooling rates from empirical equations comprised of the time period of cooling water supply and the temperatures of coolant. The measured cooling rate showed a good correlation to the specific growth rate during batch cultivation of E. coli. Cooling rate was measured and applied to programmed cell growth in a fed-batch cultivations. Three fed-batch cultivations were demonstrated by feeding substrate to follow the programmed cooling rates increasing exponentially.

In this study, some materials are organized and experimented with variables to obtain the optimum mix proportion for the mechanical property of halogen free flame resistance compound with varying addition of nano clay. Tensile strength, density and stiffness are tested in the room temperature. In this study, unlike existing layered structure, nano clay with tabular structure is used and sufficient stiffness, strength, thermal stability and gas block capability can be achieved with small amount of addition. Tensile strength and elongation test show high rupture strength only in specimens with compatibilizing agents while density test shows average measurement in all the specimens except T-9. It was confirmed that the measurement value according to the additives in compatibilizing agent or in nano clay of hardness test represents similarly.
We report a newassay method on the measurement of the catalase activity, whose utilzation value is considered to be remarkable in the field of plant biochemistry. We named this method as a De-Coupling method. The essence of de-coupling method is the separation between the enzyme reaction and the indicator reaction. The optimum condition of the enzyme reaction was found to be following: on addition of 1 ml of substrate (H2O2: 20mM) to the fixture of the crude extract of enzyme (volume: 0.2 ml) and the ammonium phosphate buffer (volume: 1.8 ml; 0.93 M phosphate, 1.6M NHB, 2.5 M methanol, pH 7.0). After 30, 60 and 90 seconds of the enzyme reactions are proceeded, the reactions are terminated by 25% of tai-chloro-acetate (final concentration of 5%), respectively. The precipitated materials by tai-chloro-acetate was removed by the centrifugation (2000g, 10minutes). Formaldehyde produced in the enzymatic reaction was reacted with 2ml of acetylacetone (60mM). The indicator reaction -(HANTSCH REAKT10N)- in which lutidine is formed, was proceeded for 60 minutes at $25^{\circ}C$.

To guarantee more exact maximum power of solar cell module, it is absolutely required to have performance characteristics of various solar cells. Today, there are many types of solar simulator for large area measurement. But it is very opaque how to select the best one for various solar cell module like crystalline silicon solar cell, high efficiency solar cell, amorphous silicon thin film solar cell, CdTe and CIGS solar cell module. So, in this paper 4 types of photovoltaic module were selected to compare the electrical characteristics by changing light pulse duration time and voltage scan direction. Light pulse duration time was varied from 10msec to 800msec. And two types of voltage scan directions, Voc->Isc and Isc->Voc were selected. From this results, optimum measuring condition was suggested and electrical variation was analysed for each types of solar cell module. The detail description is specified as the following paper.

NiCrAly/YSZ(8wt% Y2O3-Zro2) functionally fraded thermal barrier coating (FGC) layers on a Co-base sureralloy (HAYNESS 188) substrate were fabricated using Ar shielded single torch air plasma spraying method. Functional grading were produced with the stepwise compositional change throughout layer thinkness. Microstructural observation revealed a sucessful fabrication of NiCrAly/YSZ FGC. From the results of the curvature measurement, adhesive stength measurement and thermal shock test for the FGC, it was concluded that the optimum enhance of functionally graded coating layer thinkcess and compositional pattern exit to enhance the properties of FGC, which is closely reated to the internal residual distribution with it.

In domestic road construction sites, the compaction control based on strength are widely performed through the direct method with high accuracy, such as Plate Loading Test or Field CBR test. It is impossible to manage all construction sites using the direct method because the direct method requires heavy reaction loads and long measurement time. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the indirect method that could control the relative density of construction sites on the whole. Indirect methods, such as Cone Penetration Test and Fall Cone Test, require extra time for data analyzing and fixed area for test device. In this paper, the field applicability of Soil Impact Hammer (SIH) was investigated comparing with the results of field measurement tests and laboratory compaction tests. SIH developed by Japan Construction Administration and Asanuma Ltd., is a kind of indirect methods for compaction checking. According to the results of SIH performed in domestic road construction site, the subgrade reaction modulus obtained from SIH are similar to that from Plate loading tests in the range of 10 to 40. In comparison with laboratory compaction test, similar compaction line are shown in the dry side of optimum moisture contents.

The thermal load is a very important problem to be solved in many industrial systems including the electronic equipment. Impinging Jets have been known to provide a large heat transfer rates on surface for many years. The turbulence enhancement of fluid flow is requested for the efficiency elevation of heat transfer. A study on flow fields by rods attached to the wall surface as a promoter of turbulence enhancement has been carried out. The exact analysis on chracteristics of impinging jet field is requested to obtain the optimum design of the impinging jet system. By visualizing the flow field and processing the high digital image by computer PIV can afford exact data on the velocity vector kinetic energy and turbulence intensity in the complex turbulence field. In this study. three kinds of rod shape such as square. triangle. and semicircle are selected as the turbulence promoter. Nozzle diameters are 10mm. 17mm. and 23mm. And the analysis of the flow characteristics due to the above rods is carried out at Re No. 2.000, 3.000. and 4,000 by PIV measurement. It is clarified that the rod setup is very useful to obtain the turbulence enhancement and the turbulence intensity according to the shapes of rod appears large in order of the shapes of rod such as square 〉 triangle 〉semicircle.
The study aimed to develop a laser-based distance meter (LDM) to improve water surface identification for clinical MeV electron beam dosimetry, as inaccurate water surface determination can lead to imprecise positioning of ionization chambers (ICs). The LDM consisted of a laser ranging sensor, a signal processing microcontroller, and a tablet PC for data acquisition. I50 (the water depth at which ionization current drops to 50 % of its maximum) measurements of electron beams were performed using six different types of ICs and compared to other water surface identification methods. The LDM demonstrated reproducible I50 measurements with a level of 0.01 cm for all six ICs. The uncertainty of water depth was evaluated at 0.008 cm with the LDM. The LDM also exposed discrepancies between I50 measurements using different ICs, which was partially reduced by applying an optimum shift of IC's point of measurement (POM) or effective point of measurement (EPOM). However, residual discrepancies due to the energy dependency of the cylindrical chamber's EPOM caused remained. The LDM offers straightforward and efficient means for precision water surface identification, minimizing reliance on individual operator skills.

In the case of the direct measurement of $^{226}Ra$ using a HPGe gamma-ray spectrometer, the interference between gammarays with 186.21 keV of $^{226}Ra$ and 185.7 keV of $^{235}U$ should be corrected to calculate the net peak area in the energy spectrum. In general, it is very difficult to conduct peaks stripping with difference of about 0.5 keV, although a HPGe with the superior resolution is applied and the maximum channels is applied to the spectrometer. In this study, several interference correction techniques in the direct measurement were surveyed to evaluate the feasibility for the measurement of $^{226}Ra$ using the gamma-ray spectrometery. Applying the interference corrections to the analysis of raw materials and by-products, the method validation for the direct measurement of $^{226}Ra$ was conducted by evaluating the measurement uncertainty, linearity, and range. As a result, the optimum method of the interference correction was selected by comparing with the indirect measurement of which progenies of $^{226}Ra$, such as $^{214}Pb$ and $^{214}Bi$, were analyzed in the secular equilibrium state.
Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) is an simple analysis method for directly quantifying many kinds of soil micro-elements on site using a small size of laser without pre-treatment at any property of materials(solid, liquid and gas). The purpose of this study were to find an optimum condition of the LIBS measurement including wavelengths for quantifying soil elements, to relate spectral properties to the concentration of soil elements using LIBS as a simultaneous un-breakdown quantitative analysis technology, which can be applied for the safety assessment of agricultural products and precision agriculture, and to compare the results with a standardized chemical analysis method. Soil samples classified as fine-silty, mixed, thermic Typic Hapludalf(Memphis series) from grassland and uplands in Tennessee, USA were collected, crushed, and prepared for further analysis or LIBS measurement. The samples were measured using LIBS ranged from 200 to 600 nm(0.03 nm interval) with a Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm, with a beam energy of 25 mJ per pulse, a pulse width of 5 ns, and a repetition rate of 10 Hz. The optimum wavelength(${\lambda}nm$) of LIBS for estimating soil and plant elements were 308.2 nm for Al, 428.3 nm for Ca, 247.8 nm for T-C, 438.3 nm for Fe, 766.5 nm for K, 85.2 nm for Mg, 330.2 nm for Na, 213.6 nm for P, 180.7 nm for S, 288.2 nm for Si, and 351.9 nm for Ti, respectively. Coefficients of determination($r^2$) of calibration curve using standard reference soil samples for each element from LIBS measurement were ranged from 0.863 to 0.977. In comparison with ICP-AES(Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy) measurement, measurement error in terms of relative standard error were calculated. Silicon dioxide(SiO2) concentration estimated from two methods showed good agreement with -3.5% of relative standard error. The relative standard errors for the other elements were high. It implies that the prediction accuracy is low which might be caused by matrix effect such as particle size and constituent of soils. It is necessary to enhance the measurement and prediction accuracy of LIBS by improving pretreatment process, standard reference soil samples, and measurement method for a reliable quantification method.
