  • In general, Gaussian mixture model(GMM) is used to estimate the speaker model for speaker identification. The parameter estimates of the GMM are obtained by using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for the maximum likelihood(ML) estimation. However, if the number of mixtures isn't defined well in the GMM, those parameters are obtained inappropriately. The problem to find the number of components is significant to estimate the optimal parameter in mixture model. In this paper, to estimate the optimal number of mixtures, we propose the method that starts from the sufficient mixtures, after, the number is reduced by investigating the mutual information between mixtures for GMM. In result, we can estimate the optimal number of mixtures. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by the experiment using artificial data. Also, we performed the speaker identification applying the proposed method comparing with other approaches.

  • This paper proposes that optimal design using GA of BLDC motor. To estimate this optimal design method, the performance characteristics of BLDC motor is computed by the equivalent magnetic circuit network method and FEM. To estimate especially the dynamic characteristics of BLDC, we compute the parameter of electrical circuit using FEM.

  • In this work, we present solutions of two problems. First, the representation of pattern recognition problem in the standard $T_{nml}$ table of the algorithm estimate calculation was considered. Second, the problem of finding the model, consisting of the optimal parameters of an algorithm was considered. Such procedure is carried out by the selection optimal values of the parameters of extreme algorithms. This serves to reduce the number of calculations in the algorithms of estimate calculation and to increase the quality of recognition process. The algorithmic data base of the developed system was based on mathematical apparatus of pattern recognition.

  • In this paper two so-called regularized Green's functions are introduced to derive the optimal maximum norm error estimates for the unknown function and the adjoint vector-valued function for mixed finite element methods of Laplacian operator. One contribution of the paper is a demonstration of how the boundedness of $L^1$-norm estimate for the second Green's function ${\lambda}_2$ and the optimal maximum norm error estimate for the adjoint vector-valued function are proved. These results are seemed to be to be new in the literature of the mixed finite element methods.

  • Generally cluster size is predetermined when we use the stratified two-stage cluster sampling But in case that the sizes of clusters vary greatly one may want to make the sizes to be about equal. In this paper we study the optimal cluster size in stratified twostage cluster sampling. Also we find the optimal primary sampling unit sizes and optimal secondary sampling unit sizes under the given cost restriction.

  • The gauge-Uzawa method which has been constructed in [11] is a projection type method to solve the evolution Navier-Stokes equations. The method overcomes many shortcomings of projection methods and displays superior numerical performance [11, 12, 15, 16]. However, we have obtained only suboptimal accuracy via the energy estimate in [11]. In this paper, we study semi-discrete gauge-Uzawa method to prove optimal accuracy via energy estimate. The main key in this proof is to construct the intermediate equation which is formed to gauge-Uzawa algorithm. We will estimate velocity errors via comparing with the intermediate equation and then evaluate pressure errors via subtracting gauge-Uzawa algorithm from Navier-Stokes equations.

  • Separation of prescribing and dispensing practice in Korea has changed the service pattern of the pharmacy. The prescription dispensing activities, however, are concentrated excessively on the pharmacies near hospitals or clinics. Thus this study was conducted to estimate the number of optimal dispensing cases for the community pharmacy. Forty-six pharmacies were selected using systematic stratified random sampling method, and ninety-five pharmacists were interviewed on their workload of dispensing and other activities at pharmacies. One hundred and seventy prescriptions were chosen based on the length of drug administration and drug dosage form, and the dispensing time was measured by time-watch method. Also pharmacy benefit claims data were analyzed to identify the characteristics of the pharmacies which performed more than optimal dispensing cases. According to the study results, the average work time per pharmacist per day was found to be 10hours 32minutes and the dispensing activities occupied 7hours 36minutes. It took 5.72minutes on average for each dispensing case. The optimal dispensing case was estimated as 75 cases under the condition of 10hours 32minutes work time and 6% allowance rate. Even though the pharmacies near hospitals or clinics participated dispensing services actively, only pharmacies near clinics dealt with more than optimal dispensing cases. For the pharmacies near hospitals they dealt with less than optimal cases, but drug administration period per prescription was almost 3 times longer than that of pharmacies near clinics. Thus the intensity of dispensing activities such as drug administration period is to be considered to estimate optimal dispensing cases more accurately.

  • Interface problem here refers to a second order elliptic problem with a discontinuous coefficient for the second order derivatives. For the corresponding boundary value problem, the maximum principle still holds but Hopf's boundary point lemma may fail. We will give an optimal power type estimate that replaces Hopf's lemma at those boundary points, where this coefficient jumps.

We design a multiple regression model, apply to three types of aircraft to estimate the optimal maintenance manpower of aircraft. This paper provides reasonable results about maintenance manpower of aircraft, and contributes accomplishment of mission for air and air support operations.

  • We consider the experimental design problem of selecting values of design variables x for observation of a response y that depends on x and on model parameters $\theta$. The form of the dependence may be quite general, including all linear and nonlinear modeling situations. The goal of the design selection is to efficiently estimate functions of $\theta$. Three new criteria for selecting design points x are presented. The criteria generalized the usual Bayesian optimal design criteria to situations n which the prior distribution for $\theta$ amy be uncertain. We assume that there are several possible prior distributions,. The new criteria are applied to the nonlinear problem of designing to estimate the turning point of a quadratic equation. We give both analytic and computational results illustrating the robustness of the optimal designs based on the new criteria.
